What about Vauxhall?

Although not 'officially confirmed' or Front Page news on BTCC.net!

what about.. ? http://btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=1218

Harrison believes his VXR crew will face one of its biggest tests yet in 2009 as Vauxhall’s BTCC campaign with its Vectra enters a third season.
But he added: “I think we could be in a bit of trouble next year, we may struggle. We’re coming to end of the Vectra’s life in 2009 and running out of things to do with it. But that doesn’t mean to say we won’t be trying…”

Sounds like they are coming out to me!

I think his own team wants to keep him since they intend to be out next year! They raced in 2007 without significant backing remember.

What I meant was that IF Jackson's M-Sport could not afford to run a car next year then someone must want to give him a drive in their team.

Excellent for Andrew Jordan to secure such a prize drive, I hope he makes a most of this fantastic opportunity.
A real shame for Tom Onslow-Cole not to get the drive, he had a good season in 2008 and I hope he finds a berth in another team for the coming year.
It also appears that we've lost Team Eurotech from the grid :(

I really want Colin Turkington to win the championship this season, figners crossed. Stephen Jelley showed some promise in 2008 and is probably worth another go but he needs to show a big improvement.

Just leaves Team Dynamics as the last of the big three teams to announce their driver line-up.

LiamM
16th January 2009, 19:14
And hopefully TD will announce 2 cars taking the grid to 13 cars, not bad for this time of year. We probably not see a grid the size of 26 this year, a few surprises at Media Day could take it to 15 cars which isn't bad.

The economic climate seems to have cut the wheat from the chaff where the better drivers are staying and towards the back have lost their funding - with the exception of SEAT of course!

Alfa Fan

I'd say a grid of 22-26 isn't at all unrealistic for this season still. There's quite a few teams waiting to be added to that list in due course.

Fantastic news about CVR - I will be cheering Dan along, even if he is driving a SEAT!!!! Dan has been out of the BTCC for far too long, and Adam is a front-leading Independent driver. I just hope the Leons are competitive with the front of the field.

I certainly hope to see the team challenging for the Independent drivers (fingers crossed!), and also in the running in the main competitions.

Hughes has good enough confirmed his participation this in the ZS

mattie007
6th March 2009, 20:28
Thats good, hope he gets a teammate aswell.

I wonder how the ZS will do this year?
Last year it was ok, but with a 55kg weight loss and 15bhp gain, it could be back in the top 10 if Hughes is a bit more aggressive with it.

LiamM
6th March 2009, 21:10
No offence to Jason, but I think there is also some more room for weight loss!

Eurotech
8th March 2009, 14:44
err, he mentioned a driver with previous MG Experience....

I can see Mr Reid coming on here.....

LiamM
8th March 2009, 15:21
If Reid is coming back he'll want to be in a current spec car when MG existed they had a lot of other motorsport programmes, meaning there's probably more people then you think with 'some MG experience'

VkmSpouge

"Previous MG experience" could mean they once had a test drive of a road car. There are plenty of MG racing series in the UK, so I think the net is very wide for that.

Paul Luti perhaps?

Won't be Anthony Reid due to all the clashes with his Gt commitments.
And Jason is looking for a paying driver!

Fiona?

Last time i spoke to Fiona, A. the baby comes first B, Danny's racing get's priority C. She said there was no money for any BTCC racing. and D. The car is for sale.

reidy_fan
9th March 2009, 16:25
yeah Paul Luti was planning to enter a car with help from WSR but a sponsor pulled out on him, the team and company (Dreadnaught) have a lot of MG experience being main dealers and they built Paul's awesome ZT (the one with the V8 that little sis claire built)

He is a fast driver, young, ambitious and could give jason a run for his money in that ZS

Eurotech
9th March 2009, 16:50
well if it is an ex BTCC driver it won't be Collard or Turkington, thats for sure Reid is unlikely as is Warren Hughes

MG2004

A club series wouldn't have some of the worlds finest touring car drivers in Fabrizio Giovanardi, Matt Neal, Colin Turkington and Gordon Shedden. It wouldn't have some of the most proffesional racing teams preparing the cars in VX Racing, Arena Motorsport and Team Dynamics and it wouldn't have over 100 hours of coverage on ITV. The current economic situation was always going to affect the championship this year, however personally I think we have still come out of it with a fantastic season to look forward to again.

VkmSpouge
19th March 2009, 19:12
Considering we're going through what might well be a once in a life time economic crash I have to say that 19 entries and 2 TBCs is pretty good.

A real shame that we have no Mat Jackson, Jason Plato, James Thompson, Tom Onslow-Cole and Steven Kane. Losing two of the three top placed drivers from last year is a bitter blow.

I hope Tempus and Arena can get those two seats filled.

Nice surprise to see Martin Johnson in the Opel Astra coupé, I always liked the car.

Dave Clark
20th March 2009, 15:41
I see that KWR hasn't registered a second car, I take it thats the end of a two car team?

No, KWR are still very intent on running a two car team, but it hinges on whether a driver shows enough interest with the right amount of money to support them. Unfortunately with the budgets of a smaller team we cannot have the outlay on a second cars entry fees if there - at present - is not a driver who has the funds to back them for all 10 races. However, we may see a driver do a part season but just not from the season opener!

As this so called "Credit Crunch" has shown, even top drivers such as Jackson, Onslow-Cole and Kane have found difficulty securing enough interest from businesses to part with advertising money.
