Hello rallyists :D

I'm runing this prcatice round to prepare you for how the 2009 CMR2 IRC will be organized.

In a following post you will find the time card for the event.

NOTE: I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO PRINT THIS CARD AND HAVE IT AS A REFERENCE FOR WHEN YOU DO THE RALLY

It will contain stage details (location, number, weather) as well as any applicable tire restrcitions.

It goes without saying that unless everyone adheres to the route, route details and restrictions that this wil all fall flat.

Do your part as a driver and accept the obligation to your fellow competitors and responsibility as a participant to follow and adhere to the guidelines for each rally. Let's make it a great season for everyone....

Just one question. In single rally mode, we will have to race Italy and Sweden stages 1-10 inclusive. Should it not be rallied in single stage mode?

OOPS-yes, SINGLE STAGE MODE :D

Paddy Cummins has completed the Shakedown

1. 2:57.05 (standard setup)
2. 2:50.56 (fully stiff suspension, PB)
3. 2:50.32 (steering +2, PB)
4. 2:55.38 (same setup but 2 major crashes)
5. 2:51.35 (power ration -3)

I've gotten hold of a Peugeot 306 Maxi for this event. Its definitely competent enough to keep up with todays S2000 machinery. The shakedown went ok. The tarmac stages most certainly call for a fully stiff suspension and I find that the twisty nature of them require a more sensitive steering setup. On the final run, I put the power ratio towards the rear because I was getting lots of understeer on the exit of long corners. It helped but I think I put it back too far.

Paddy Cummins has completed the IRC test Rally

The data we obtained during the shakedown didn't really become as relevant as I'd expected on the actual rally run. The conditions and tyre limits we had to abide by meant that the car took on a completely new persona, admittedly one that took a lot of taming and something that I never quite settled into all rally long.

Out of the blocks in the early morning, the dry first stage with dry tarmac tyres was pretty damn good! I set a new PB by about a second and felt very confident in the car. But that was all to change. The rest of the mornings stages (SS2-4) were all very wet and I was still using dry tyres. I first witnessed woeful understeer on SS2 so for SS3 I tampered with the steering and brake setup (strengthening both.) The car did feel better on the next, albeit short, test. For SS4 I delved into a new power ratio setup to try and make things better. This didn't work very well however and the last of the mornings stages saw me almost roll the car and, before that, lose time with a spin.

The afternoon would deliver 2 snow stages, the first of which was very difficult on the wet tarmac tyres. The second one (SS7) wasn't any easier and I was way off the pace of my personal best times. The two tarmac stages which split the afternoons snow tests proved as difficult as the earlier ones. The constant switching of surfaces and setups (i.e snow to tarmac) put me out of rhythm with the car and I was never really settled at all during the days rallying. It was a completely new experience driving with these limitations.

I don't expect that I will be a main contender for the top positions because other more skilled drivers here will take to these awful conditions a lot better. I'm a newbie to this. Still, it was definitely a good rally to give me a flavour of what is to come and what I can expect for the rest of the year. Even though I will certainly have to put a lot more thought and strategy into it if following rallies are as demanding as this one was.

Happy new Year

This was really fun to drive. I did it with fwd punto and I was happy to notice that I was able to get quite good times compared to 4wd WRC's. I also tested 4wd in same conditions and in some stages I was even faster with fwd. Maybe those slippery conditions made it possible. Thanks Tannat, this was very interesting  I hope there will be more races like this!

I'm campaigning an S1600 (Toyota Corolla)

2 54 71
2 52 94
2 52 35 rolled
2 46 70

Lots of understeer, but my best was only 2 seconds off my PB

Hope everone has a fun time

Lots of practice will be needed before I slip n' slide over the Col De Turini at the Monte later this month!!

I'll be using a S2000 VW Polo, so far the tests have been pretty much fun! the Puma is a nice car to drive

Just one suggestion for future rounds, in this rally there too many wet stages!

I've used imageshack too, you need to grab the link next to the "Direct link to image" box, and post it in the "insert image" function.. does this make any sense? Try it out in the testthread elsewhere in this forum.

When you upload the picture and get to this page:

http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=peugeot306maxiitalyuo2.jpg

You click on the picture and get the direct URL for the pic in a new window, like this:

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3540/peugeot306maxiitalyuo2.jpg

..and that is the URL you need to use to avoid getting the small clickable thumb :D

I will try and do some times today...had flu for the last week that's really knocked me off my feet :( Does anyone have a list of S1600 cars? Assume that it's the C2, Fiesta, Clio R3, Suzuki Swift....were there any others rallied??

Probably going to rally the Grande Punto..although i might also try a Clio :D

I had not too much time to do this rally, but finally have done. My Skoda Fabia S2000 is in good condition, refreshed after hard BRC 2008 battle. Just I have to improve my driving with restricted tyres.

Just finished my rally, man that was fun!, although I would like to have a talk with the guy who chose the control tyre ;) :p

One thing to note and some players might not know it, when you choose wet weather on single stage mode the game gives you wet tyres by default, so be sure you change them! or might get the idea you're fast on wet tarmac and dry tyres as I thought I was :p

oh! and you can't choose weather conditions on the night stage in Sweden, at least on the PS version

All the action was in the midfield as NOR stormed on to a convincing win in slippery conditions in the TBRD Skoda. Tight finish amongst 2nd-4th as jso finished atop the midfield heap ahead of Zes in the Abarth S1600 (?) entry and JTLarsen in the second TBRD Skoda. Showing good speed paddy Cummins garnered 5th in the S2000 Peugeot with Tuomo rounding out he field in 6th.

After completing SS4 in 5th overall, Tannat's Toyota s1600 succumbed to damage incurred on SS3 and retired :D

It was a very difficult rally for me, particularly in the second half so I suppose that result isn't too bad. I think I can realistically challenge the rest of the entrants (except for NOR) through the course of the year. A car change might be in order before the first round though (most likely sticking with S2000, just might skin up to something a bit newer.)

Zes-you competed in S1600 and skinned a WRC car, correct?

Yes, Corolla WRC skinned as Abarth Punto S1600 FWD.

Wow 3rd!!! This rally did suite my driving style very well. My best rally in last year WRC series was Monte. Particularly the snow-with-raintyres day.

Being FWD didn't bother me in these conditions. I believe it will be different case in gravel.

This makes me think, should I change my driving style in normal conditions. Looks like I need slippery surface to be competitive.

I haven't expected so easy victory on water and ice surface. I spent much time with testing Pajero and new C4 WRC, but not even with Skoda. Then appreciate good work of all the team, Fabia S2000 seems to be prepared on the very top level. I'm looking forward to regular IRC races. Just it will be a bit tough to do all rounds of all championships this year :)
