Peugeot UK today confirmed their intention to field a Peugeot 207 S 2000 driven by Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle in next year’s IRC rally championship.
Peugeot UK have teamed up with Kronos Racing to prepare and support a Peugeot 207 S 2000 in next year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). The IRC Challenge will be contested over twelve rounds starting with the legendary Monte Carlo Rally in January and finishing in November with the RAC MSA Rally of Scotland. Driving the Peugeot UK car will be Kris Meeke who, has previously driven for Kronos, when he was third overall in the Junior World Rally Championship in 2005. Kris, previous winner of the British Super 1600 and British Junior championship, will be co-driven by Paul Nagle. The Peugeot 207 S 2000 has already become the car to beat in the IRC challenge where it has secured the manufacturers and driver’s championship, in both 2007 and 2008.

Kris Meeke “This is an incredible opportunity for both myself and Paul! It brings my career somewhat full circle, as my first introduction to rally was through a Peugeot UK supported competition in 2000. Some awesome and diverse challenges lie ahead in the 2009 IRC, but I can rest assured that with the championship winning pedigree of Peugeot and Kronos, I will have the best opportunity in order to prove my abilities in the coming season!”

Pierre Louis Colin (Managing Director Peugeot UK) “I very pleased we have been able to enter next years IRC championship with Kris. Rallying is in the blood of Peugeot and it is a good demonstration of the dynamism of Peugeot cars, especially the 207. We know we have a winning car, and in Kris and Paul we also have a winning team. In these difficult times it is important that you make sound commercial decisions but it is also important to communicate to your customers in a positive way your brand and your commitment to it”

Really happy to hear that Kris has finally got himself a worthy top class drive. He has machinery to prove his worth now. Not mad on the paint scheme, it should be sporting a tri-colour! I'll take it that the union jack refers to his team and not the guy driving the car!! :p :

Yeah he's from Dungannon in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Eddie Irvine was also from Northern Ireland but from Newtownards in Co. Down. Lets forget this issue before it spirals though... :s

Meeke plans 2010 WRC with S2000+ ???

noel157
12th January 2009, 17:59
Tom, Kris only says that he feels he would be in a good position to enter S2000+ in 2010 because of this season's 207 drive. He goes on say that hard work and hope has got him to where he is. I guess like most drivers with WRC aspirations the IRC will provide a good platform to launch a WRC career. Has Peugeot hinted at entering WRC next year? I suppose Citroen in the C3 will take preference over Peugeot. I know Fiat seem to be thinking about it.

Tom206wrc
12th January 2009, 18:02
No chance for Peugeot in WRC I fear... :mark:

Olivier Quesnel, boss of both sport entities of PSA since 2009, said well "rally is for Citroën, who will develop C3 S2000+"

I think they wanted someone that could drive so would rule out Gareth Mchale.

Also he is from southern ireland unlike Kris who is from Northern Ireland i.e UK

Wonder why they didn't just pick a driver that was actually from the island of the UK. Is Wilks up to much?

Good question - he had the budget raised, but Subaru pulled out - so I assume he is in limbo.

Bloody hell!

I am convinced that in certain conditions these S2000s are not much slower than WRCs, and they look/sound faster too.

Well, I'm convinced that Kris is serious....bouncing it on the rev limiter and shredding off some of the 207's rear bumper. And he was just testing!
