I think its time to begin the discussion about the traditional first rally of the new year.

Even though it is not counted for the Czech championship,it still has a good entry list (not finished yet) with foreign drivers like Valousek (in my opinion the king of this rally),Orsak,Blomqvist,Gassner sr. and jr. and Gavlak taking on the local Austrian drivers like Stohl,Baumschlager,Waldherr and Rosenberger.

Finaly nice entry list even though the date is veeeeeery bad for foreign crews. Stohl should be the man to beat. Nice to see crazy Klausner again.

Janner is not Janner without snow.

From what I understood from a disasterous translation from Czech to Croatian (and they are similar languages, cant imagine what would happen with English) Saturdays stages are dry while Sunday is mostly ice (not snow but ice)

WRC1
29th December 2008, 21:11
I read that too on the forum of rallye-magazin.de

unfortunatly this is (partly) right....

the first leg (saturday) is complete without snow, there may be a little bit new snow during friday, but i am afraid this will not be enough.

BUT the first 4 stages (2 repeated stages) of 2nd leg are completly covered with snow and due the low temperatures expected for the next days this snow will stay till sunday!

the drivers talking about 3 rallyes in one: first day a tarmac rallye with a few icy places, than a real snow-sprint rally over 4 stages, and on sunday afternoon again mainly tarmac, but with lot more ice than on saturday!!

After supper he was going to hotel with his EVO IX (?). So he decided to try all his lamps (including very powerful extra rally lamps). But in front of him was police car and they noticed Stig's EVO. Stig didn't found rented car documents and showed just his license. He had to pay 20 euros :)

Just came back frozen like a penguin from a FANTASTIC sideways rallying day!
Saw 5 spectacular stages and a lot of action. The most spectacular were Klausner in his Audi,Glisic in BMW M3,Taddei in his Evo IX and de Luna (although I expected more sideways from him, looks like he decided to be fast).
I am very impressed by Černy and dissapointed in Stohl (in his car exactly).
I am very happy that there were a lot of competitive Subarus :)

Although the starting order was very complicated.
Gassner jr. started first with number 14.By my logic,he was given 14 in 2008 but he got FIA B prority in 2009,thus starting first. Also I dont think that the car with number 1 on it should start 10th on the road.
And they divided FIA cup drivers from Austrian championship, which I can understand.

Černý had a spin on SS11 and the engine stalled for a long time. That was the reason why he lost almost a minute.

With Gassner jun., you are true - they were making entry list, but he got FIA B priority later. About starting number - it is usual, that first group are EC drivers and then other drivers with non international homologated cars. It is rule, which must be used on each rally counted into ERC or EC. It is "mistake" by organisers to give number 1 to Stohl, because they had known he will use CNG car, which cannot start in EC due to only national homologation.

Gassner jr. took 11 seconds from Černy and now has 20 seconds

So, last stage was very difficult and tricky. Mundl was pushing hard, other drivers prefers slower version. Waldherr told, that this was dangerous stage and he doesnt want to risk, so with damaged spikes he prefers to go carefully.

News from SS 17. In downhill on ice Waldherr wasnt able to brake his car, so he choose bank instead of trees and broke a wheel on his car. Second arrived Baumschlager and had the same problem, he spun and hit Waldherr`s car, which knock him to another side. It is a good luck for Mundl, that his car is without any problem.
