Is the BTCC slipping down the pecking order when it comes to national touring car championships? It's just that seeing how when VW choose a championship to enter (along with sponsorship from E-ON) it's the STCC that they choose. Along with the other manufacturers in the series it seems that the STCC is the championship of choice these days.

The STCC never had SEAT works support did it? Whereas the BTCC had SEAT Sport UK as a full manufacturer entry. It's down to the manufacturer division of that country - it's actually Volkswagen Sweden entering the STCC, not just Volkswagen as a whole.

I think all the Swedish works teams are just the local arm of the company in that country. That said not sure why the likes of Volvo UK or Volkswagon UK don't follow their Swedish counterparts leads.

I'm not totally sure, as 'm not that clued up on the STCC rules but far as I know - the only "factory" team in Sweden is Volvo?

The Honda, Chevrolet, Seat and West Coast BMWs are all dealership teams - like Mat Jackson was this year in the BTCC

I think to some degree the rules makes it seem like there are more works teams - as the Dealership teams and the other non-factory backed teams with no backing like Flash Engineering?, KMS (Audi) and the Peugeot team all gain points of the manufacturers championship.

To be entered in the Independents championship you have to have a car that has been racinged for 3 years or more. So for example for next year, it will be the first year that they will allow the 2006 built BMW 320si to be run in the Independent champioship.

I'm thinking since Sweden never had any major racing series until the STCC, it has become the national racing series of Sweden. And so the national importers are willing to put lotsa money into the series. It has becomes's Sweden's version of "nascar" in terms of importance and influence.

Contrast this with the UK which has so many numerous racing series, the BTCC is "just another" series

Sorry Andy. You have totally confused me there!

SEAT UK paid for the SEAT BTCC team and Volkswagen Sweden are paying for the STCC team! Isn't that the same?

Apart from a few exceptions haven't most 'manufacturer teams' over the years been funded by the UK base of that company?

Just as everyone is hoping will happen with Honda this coming season! If they enter as Manufacturers, does it matter who funds it?

Any series with any manufacturer support of any kind in 2009 will have done a good job, in my opinion.

I totally agree!

I just wonder how if any, the recent announcements at the Vauxhall factory will affect their BTCC programme?

Mind you that is for another thread!

My point, admittedly poorly expressed, was that the VW division of Sweden decided to go racing, the SEAT division of Sweden didn't. It was simply the other way around over here in the UK. I'm aware that it's always the national base of the company who goes racing, sorry.

I doubt that, it's limited by the fact it's a country with 9 million people, although a fair bit of interest does spread to the whole of Scandinavia and even here.

Is it possible for you to type with good spelling in the future?

It is a shame isn't it? I would love to have the 2006-2008 seasons in game form...of course first I would need a computer that was up to the job.

A reason why the STCC has a game is that Simbin are from Sweden so it is kinda their local market

A little off topic but Simbin have a new addon for their RACE 07/ GTR Evolution/ STCC game being developed. Its still known at 'Project Toad' at the moment, but they have recently announced they got their hands on a few licenses that people would like and had been asking about - so maybe one of those could be the BTCC?

That sounds good, I have some good championships in mind that should be put on a game
