The current status of cars produced/sold in the S2000 Database is:

Abarth 37
Fiesta 2
207 54
MG 4
Corsa 2
Satria 2
Fabia 3
Corolla 9
Auris 4
Polo 10

Total 127

Not bad !!

The database is a very good initiative - keep up the good work, and we understand that it is sone using spare time - which makes it even more impressive !!

We should have the same for WRC...

I thought that "Xsara Fan" worked on history of 206 cars. And I`m going to publish the history of Octavia WRC cars.

The S2000 site is very good, but as with anything else it can become better.

Do you have ideas on what you would like to see ?
http://www.s2000rally.com/index.php

I have mailed them with info that I would like to have production year as one of the searchables in the search area.
A while ago I said I wanted the results to include not only total result, but also result in class. Not fare to compare with A8 !

MG Rally
6th February 2009, 14:56
There are also FIVE MGs, but I don't have any details of the 5th car yet as it has not been rallied. In all honesty, I cannot see anymore being built either.

Congratulations to all involved with http://www.s2000rally.com for compiling a very useful database of cars. I agree about class results Sulland, and also think that stating the co-driver might also be useful.

Keep up the good work.

Then the team have made cars searchable by prod year !!

I am still missing results by class (N4) if they compete elsewhere than in IRC, since for example Sandell is registered with 12th from Rally Norway, but won the class.
(and his car must be a 08 model, since it was a 00 car then !) ;-)

The results are also hard to track, since they are not in the news section, and the latest added result is not a link that give you any info. I guess the only way you can find the results is by knowing what cars competed in each rally, and most of us dont know that.

This database is turning into a very good tool, and with a couple of more updates it will be perfect !!

Thanks to the team that are using their spare time for the rest of us petrolheads !!!

I am in the middle of creating a site that will track rally cars history, not just S2000s, watch this space! ;) Need more time to finish it though and need to sort out the logic of it, finding it difficult to figure out how to track cars which change registration numbers. Probably simple but my brain is all mush at the moment

Good point. I don't know whether the factories are operating with a profit margin on sales of S2000 cars or they are simply selling them in order to increase promotion of the brand, but if they are operating at a profit then it could perhaps go a long way to funding the factory teams IRC campaigns. Nice business model :)

Can someone tell me if there are two versions of the Sadev gearbox? By the S2000database some cars with the Sadev gearbox have a centre differential (Abarth, Toyota, VW, Ford = front, rear and centre diff) but Pug only front and rear diff. This has been discussed sometimes earlier but I’m just wondering why Pug doesn’t use the centre diff because it makes the car more difficult in turns when at least one front and one rear wheel are always spinning at the same speed. I can’t be because of weight saving because by the S2000 regulations the gearbox has a min. weight.

Mirek
16th June 2009, 19:13
I have discussed this with my friend whose family runs Abarth some time a go and he told me that the main reason in his opinion was lower power losses while the variant with central differential was not that much better in handling (every gear means 1-2% of lost power). The weight saving is now not much important since S2000 must have 1200 kg now and all of them are lighter.

I also asked if gearboxes are same for Abarth and Peugeots and he told me that it wasn't possible to fit gearbox from Peugeot into Abarth and vice versa although inside they are almost same.

As fas as I know Škoda was testing both variants and decided for 2 differential scheme which was better. Škoda uses X-Trac and they also have both variants (I think that at least MG has 3 differentials). Abarth also started using X-Trac with only 2 differentials in 09 evolution (I think that Basso made it's international premiere in Monte Carlo while Scandola used it already in autumn in some local Italian event).

Thanks Mirek,

It seems that lack of centre diff don’t have so great impact on the handling that I thought it would have.

I calculated from a dyno graph (Mitsubishi Evo 9, grp N) that the power loss in transmission is about 16%. Peak power from the engine = 202,7 kW = 276 hp, peak power from the wheels = 170 kW = 231 hp => power loss = 32 kW = 43,5 hp, which is quite a lot.

Mirek
17th June 2009, 19:26
I think that with that much higher rpm the losses may be even bigger in percentage.

Is the MG S2000 project dead, or is MSD working both MG and Opel these days?

If I look at the activity on the MG's in 2009, not many rallies has been done, thats why I ask.

Bill Gwynne Motorsport have supposedly taken over the project. Mark Higgins was at the Goodwood FOS in a car and he is supposed to be doing the IRC round in Scotland in the MG. Pete Stephenson has done several gravel rallies in his MG this year.

It'll hardly ever be a front runner but would be a great clubman's car and I presume better value than the established makes.

To DB Team: Any chance of getting result in class, and not only total from the 2010 season ?

It will give a more correct picture of the results, not having to compete with A8 cars.

Skoda equals Peugeot in the number of 2009 models, 14 each.

In 2008 the numbers was: Skoda 3 and Peugeot 34 - So 09 was not a bad year for Skoda, equalling the biggest producer of S2000 cars.

Will be interessting to se the 2010 numbers with a major player like Ford coming in to the picture.

Are they not produced using the 2010 regs, and then a 2010 model. Or are you strictly using the calendar year they were assembled ?

There is used time of assembly (similar situation at Skoda - first car built in 2007, also before getting the homologation).

I understand that you need to save space in the default layout, but make it possible to search each car's complete rally history if the user would like to. If not you loose some of the functionality, and credibility of your splendid site !

Thats why you have a database, and technically its quite simple.

Forgive my ignorance. But why is it necessary for a team to allow you to publish a result? I respect you're trying to build up a relationship with these teams but surely results are public domain and not for anyone to say if you can publish them or not.
