It IS official! It's been announced on both the BTCC and Rocklingham websites and in Press Releases from both parties - how much more official would you like it?

Thought you'd be hard pushed to find it on the Rockingham site :P

I just noticed the list of things that happen at Rockingham on the site, Motor Racing is at the bottom lol. Says it all really!

Don't ask me why I was trawling around this site  but the information is very welcome and good for Rockingham. Are we in favour with Mr Gow or is it a marketing coup?

Excellent

In favour with Gow or marketing coup? Knowing the way he tends to do things I wouldn't be surprised if its just to rub Silverstones nose in it. Regardless, its still great news and a real coup for Rockingham.

IMHO the only reason Rockingham has been chosen for the media day is because it is a new track (I know the BTCC have been to Rockingham before but not on this circuit configeration) so enableing them more track time than would be available on the race weekend.

dave17, it was a new track in 2003. was it the media day venue then?

i hope that being included on this year's schedule AND being chosen for the media day will mean a permanent place on future calendars. just got to make sure that everything goes without a hitch.

Good news for Rockingham, shame I wont be able to go to the media day, (no money for travel). Lets hope it's used as the Media Days in the future. I think it was chosen because of the facilities at Rockingham as well as having more practice time!

on the btcc.net forum, alan gow says it would have been brands(they normally like to use the first track on the schedule) but brands couldn't offer a suitable date (their loss) and rockingham offered as it was a great way to promote their round.

This is good, I know Donington have opened the doors for media day before but have charged for it IIRC. I'll be having a run down to take a look at the '07 contenders, especially as I won't be marshalling at the BTCC meeting itself.

Does anyone know if the afternoon "test session" is just a demonstration or a proper balls out timed session? If so, are marshals required & who do we volunteer to? Just so happens I have some annual leave to use up...

Think I'll go to this is it just afternoon ? Not sure to have half a day off work or the whole day. If I finish at 1pm I could be at the track within 5 mins. Anyone know what the timetable is ?

The track will use their own weekday marshals for this.
