Not long till the Cambrian rally on November the 1st. Bit of a treck for me but looking on Burtons website its his last planned outing for the year so should be worth it.

So does anyone have any recomendations on places to watch and start times?

The quarry in Penmacho North is always worth a look ... the big dirty mother of a watersplash is usually pretty full as well :)

I'll be going, I thought it was a long trek for me but looking at where Astra Racer is from i'm glad it's only 230Miles! Should hopefully only take about 3 hours though as going the motorway route this time rather than cross country.

Should be a good event, entry list is up on the website and Burton has entered but his name is only on the list no co-driver or car.

Suggest you come off the M5 at Junc 4 and go cross country from there Luke ... you dont want to be hitting the M5/M6 junction anytime on a Friday afternoon

I did that junction on way to the Dukeries earlier this year and it was no trouble  I won't be in any rush anyway so I don't mind being in abit of traffic!

The Gold stars are running second on the road. (about 40 mins behind first car) And yes Penmachno Quarry is being run and the water is already deep and its still raining here.

Ooh my local event :) Will have to see if I can go. Apparently we've got a chance of snow here next week so it could be interesting if it does happen!

You should make the trip Dan, have you seen the Pug Cossy in action before??

Don't want any snow :( Wyedean was rubbish in 2007 with the amount of snow we had!

it's a pity the watersplash is only used once though!

Be good if we met up - faces to names and all that! :)

I expect you will be in contact with Wayne or Simon Clarke next week Geoff?

Well ive just booked a hotel which is about 10 minutes from the stages, which means no getting up at 5am :D Looking at the Cambrian site, I think il be going to the first stage of the day and its repeat later. Really looking forward to it now!

Not camping or sleeping in the car are ye?

Daniel
26th October 2008, 18:34
I'll be sleeping in my nice warm bed at home :cheese:

Meeting up on a stage is probably not the best idea as phone coverage can be very so so on the stages around here and it can get confusing when it comes to which point everyone is going to go to. Happy to meet up wherever is most convenient for everyone though :)

Always a good event, Penmachno is normally a good stage, pity it's right in the middle of the day, probably end up at Clocaenog Main for the day.

Yep sleeping in my nice warm car in my nice double layer warm sleeping bag, probably somewhere in the middle of Penmachno. Not the best place to be on Halloween  Who knows what's in those woods?!

There are signposts yes :)

My better half has said that she's seen signs up for the rally so one would assume the signs should be up all over by now :)

The Forest car parks might be closed overnight - I'd hate to drive that way and find they're locked.

Daniel

shouldn't be too cold on Friday night but then again it can get pretty cold further inland where the rally is held. Be sure to rug up if you're roughing it!

We don't park in no car parks we park by the stages so we can just get up and get to the point we picked out already  Oh and cook the Bacon Sarnies :D

Some parts of Clocaenog don't have gates to get to the stages. But some do.

I don't remember there being a gate to Penmachno Quarry tho.

Sorry to be a little vague about Clocaenog but not sure of the stage route. and there are too many ways in to advise of any.....

Where exacttly are you Daniel?

I'm on the North Coast

Here's what it looked like on the Denbigh moors a few hours ago. Just lucky that there are a few days for all the snow to melt before the rally! I would be very much surprised if there was any snow left by the time the rally is on but who knows.

Daniel
29th October 2008, 08:43
That's a pity! Any reason why?

If you have the time while you're here i'd certainly recommend taking a drive through Llanberis through the heart of Snowdonia as it's stunningly at the moment with all the snow that's fallen.

lol I really should check what ive writen before I post daniel!

I had a nightmare getting to the rally, traffic was horrific from the moment I left home and it took me 7 hours to get there instead of 5 and a half!!! The journey back was pretty bad as well as it poored with rain all the way home from Birmigham and you always get some idiot drivers :(

As the for the rally its self I ended up going to Clocaenog main as I was held up a bit at the hotel. The first pass through was good with some big slides lock ups and a Nova seeming to destroy its transmission! For the second pass I watched from a spot where 15 many cars had gone off in the morning, but many people had learnt their lesson or retired by then so wasnt that great. I was gutted when I asked a marshall if Burton had made it, only to find out he hadnt, he was the main reason I went!

Pics will be uploaded when I can be assed to sort them out!

Managed to do Clocaenog East, Penmachno Quarry and Clocaenog Main.

Although was lucky to get out of Penmachno. People parked everywhere.

Had a great time in Cloc Main for my first visit to the Cambrian. Only downside was the 6 and a half hour trip to Llandudno to get to rally HQ for Signing On and also the freezing night in the Forest, and also some scary Aqua plaining on the way home on the M5

Apart from that had an enjoyable morning at Jct 21 for SS2, and then a fast left over crest for SS6 just before Jct 6 where Frank Kelly was very close to going off.

Glad to see the crew of Car 61 were ok after there roll, after running round the corner to find no sign of movement in the car, it was a bit worrying. I have the noise of the car rolling on camera, but not the incident :(

Looking forward to next years event, was thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks to the comapny who there on the day made it that bit better Congrats to Hugh Hunter on the BTRDA Championship especially being his first year in the Focus WRC. Fantastic result for Matt Edwards too, was very surprised to see him 3rd when I get home yesterday but very pleased for him, I hope he finds some funding to run an E9 next year :D

Next event - RAC!!! :D

Was my first proper rally with my Nikon D40 and the low light made things a right pain in the RS at times! Still got plenty to learn but im fairly happy with how they came out considering the high ISO.

Yeah so did I, I was in the outside lane going past the RAC control tower near the Mall due to 2 lorries overtaking and the water on the outside was really bad, I could feel the car going slowly to the left which was quite scary
