jbmarcus21

Petter has said that he will not breake the contract, meaning that Subaru (if it is the case) has to do it. Cheaper to buy out Atko perhaps?

Hmm, I had not heard the Gronholm/Subaru rumour up until just now. Is there any moe reading available on that?

If there was indeed some truth behind it then I think it would do Subaru good. In my eyes, Gronholm is still at the top of his game even though he has not competed in the WRC for nearly a year. You dont go off your game THAT much in a year. If Subaru drafted Marcus for a few rallys throughout the season (Im thinking the likes of Monte/Finland/GB/NZ - the ones he enjoys so he has motivation) then I think it would be a bit like Tommi's infuence on Petter when he joined Subaru in 2000(?).

The only downside I could see would be the financial side of things, but Im sure somone of Marcus' forte could quite easily muster up the required sponsorship.

It will be Mikkelson and Gronholm in Subaru M2 team, with Mikkelson picking up the tab for the whole lot, and SWRT paying Marcus retainer.

Duval will drive GB Rally ??.. Doubt appears about this.
He said yesterday, no drive without P.Pivato. For Pivato is really impossible to see him, to codrive in GB Rally.. Soon...

Now big problem for BP Ford.. without Duval and Galli ...

Do you think Malcom play the manufacturers title completly ?? And say to Marcus to help them for GB ?

Stobart was supposed to run 4 cars in Wales. Duval, Wilson, H.Solberg and Clark. They can nominate Solberg or Clark instead of Duval without any big problem. Offcourse they need FIA special permission, but it should not be a problem when there is a good medical reason for it.

Buzz Lightyear

I wonder how true? They couldn't even spell his name correctly. And nothing on the English news sites.

English translation:

"According to our information from England.

Markus Gronholm''signed on Wednesday with Team Subaru for a program to start including eight of the twelve tests in the World Rally Championship WRC 2009! "

That spice to move on next season and will enjoy our five World Champion, Sébastien Loeb. Which is with the return of large Finnish driver, a source of motivation to try to seek a sixth world crown.

Recall that the former double World Champion of specialty had retired from the sport last year stating worn by all his years of competition "

Contacted by the Subaru team, Marcus had recently conducted tests deemed very promising Wales

At first, there are few weeks, Gronholm had indicated "wanting to ride in 2009 in the WRC Rally in competing on snow like Norway"

Finally, leaders of Team Subaru and its owner Dave Richards managed to persuade him to contest most of the events (eight out of twelve)

We can not in any case welcome this good news because Marcus Gronholm if a driver is among the most gifted seen in World Championship,''adds his undeniable talent,''elegance, refinement and major distinction Champions!"

In finnish, but the keypoints are:

- Grönholm cannot comment to rumours about his drive in Norway since according to him, nothing has been agreed. He has thought about things, but honestly he don't know yet.

-About the Subaru tests in England last September, Marcus hasn't tested Subaru, but he was following the tests.

-Grönholm will be in Wales next weekend, but he has some "Ford-stuff" to do there. Nothing to do with Subaru.

Buzz Lightyear
1st December 2008, 12:01
I think Marcus will try and diffuse the situation, as he is obviously still contract to Ford in some way till year end.
If Marcus says he didnt test the Subaru, then he didnt test the Subaru, and would lead me to belive there is little substance to the rumour, because how could there be serious negiotations, if he never sat in the car?
The Petter blog thing is confusing. Why did he do this?! I really do think Petter actually reads these forums and puts 2 and 2 together to get 9,435,562.

If Gronholm wants a challange to fill his large amount of spare time and exercise his reflections and brain again, he found the right one in making Subaru's win again. It also would wake up Loeb's motivation to do another WRC year. He tried the <do not finish a couple of times> methode this year to make it more exiting, but it failt in preventing him taking the title again. :)

Not sure if Marcus is interested in Subaru, but if he did it would be strange for me because the reason he quit rallying is because he was still successful at that time. I don't think coming back to rallying with Subaru at this time will bring success. I think this won't likely happen. Although I still would like to see another good driver in a Subaru to compare speed with Petter and Chris.

TMX,
That's why Subaru is perfect for a one year "come back"

If the car is rubbish
Marcus is shown to care about the sport and help other teams but is let down by a rubbish car / ignorant engineers, and Petter is vindicated and maybe gets the car changes he deserves.

If the car is actually OK and it's the current drivers
Marcus is seen to be the driving god we all know.

By going back to Ford, anything less than winning the world championship would be seen as a loss.

Autosport today about case Grönholm:

A source close to Gronholm said: "They [Gronholm and Subaru] were quite close [to a deal], but now it's going to be tough. They are quite a way apart. Marcus has an idea of the deal he wants and it's not what they offer - particularly not this four-rally thing. That's not so good for him [Gronholm], I think."

Subaru is obviously off. I read somewhere that Grönholm himself says that it would have been fun, but that it was close but no cigar and that he has no other options for the WRC. Also, Malcolm Wilson said in swedish magazine "Svensk Motorsport" that he would have loved to have Grönholm in the team, but couldn't afford it.

Actually it's he's "a bit interested in driving". He says he misses the feeling of driving and winning. I dont think so, they asked this same last year, he said rally Finland is a rally where you need to be 100% ready and to have 100% confidence in the car, and you dont get that without driving rallies regulary.
But you never know, there might be some show rally in old cars.

Marcus, buy yourself a 207, same as Kimi with the Abarth - and start in IRC.

The non team order atmosphere is like the old days in WRC, you will enjoy it !

He certainly seemed to enjoy driving the Fiesta S2000 when he tested it before Sweden: “The Ford Fiesta was very nice to drive and I was impressed by the road-holding, it was really perfect. The engine felt very strong and you really get the feeling that this is a proper rally car to drive. It brings back the excitement as you have to be aggressive and drive at the correct revs."

Hirvonen said about the same car that it is lazy.

In terms of the engine?

Yes, they interviewed him after monte and he said, its lazy but maybe with the new engine, it was a spontan comment, not a ford official press relese, like grönholms comments.

True, Marcus' comments could have just been press speak but most people do seem to enjoy driving the S2000 cars, saying they are 'proper cars', especially compared to traditional N4s.

Regarding the engine; I guess it is quite normal for Mikko to feel that coming from the World Rally Car. Rumours say the Fiesta is putting out a lot of power but my feeling from looking at engine dimensions and from watching on stages is that the Skoda maybe has more low down torque.

Difficult to say, the truth is that in monte Mikko controlled from start to finish, when needed he increased the gap, even he was polite in his comments.
Here in Sweden it looks like PG does the same, can be that the cars are quite on par, but the drivers make the difference.

Re: Fiesta vs. Fabia I want to see a few more rallies before making a judgement. In Monte there were too many variables (Mikko, tyre brands, tyre choices, weather), here it is just one fast snow rally. Will be interesting to see how it goes on twistier and rougher gravel rallies but for sure the Fiesta seems good.

yes, difficult to say, but i belive skoda will be favorite in irc, and ford in s2000 cup, if the entry stays same as now.
