why the secrecy?

To try and get the route details from their website you need a password.

As somebody who enjoys finding out about these sorts of things I'm a bit disappointed.

I agree. Especially with the rally taking place in a new venue too. It would be nice to know how it will all unfold.

Japan would have to have the most disciplined spectators on the calendar, so it could not be argued that it is to stop unruley behaviour.

It costs nothing to distribute the PDF's online, we would hardly crash any servers with our demand for this information. It makes little sense.

Rally route is on the Japanese side of the website but not on the English version of the website.

This link is for all the spectator areas with photos of the rally view. Nikara looks like an interesting spot, perched up on a series of round tanks??? filled with earth. Quite a long drop down those rusty metal sides.

I can not wait to see how Collin Clark from World Rally Radio pronounces the name of SS22/27 Iw@nke.

Even the Rallyforum itself would not let me write the proper name in. Censoring it before I knew it.

To read pages in English, it is enough to go here: ;)

The organisers have assumed that all non-japanese attracted to their website are either Competitors or Media. There is no general spectator information for the average fan who can not speak nihongo (japanese). To access any of the documents, you need a password which I presume is given when press accreditation or car entry is received.

The japanese side of the website has ten times the information available than the english language side. To make matters worse, it is written in a way, that machine translators do not work, like Google Translate.

Thanks for posting the map.

The route looks interesting - 29 stages - but as usual in Japan, most of them are short spectator stages.

so what do you say about this rally?

How do you Strategy do you think the drivers will have?

Mikko obviously have to go for the win if he want the championship to be alive when they get to Wales.

Latvala-? probably need to push hard as well to try and Helo Mikko.

Sebastien well i think he will try to push maybe 90%? you know as normal but with some margin.

Sordo , i think he might need to push harder then Seb incase Seb would make a mistake or have some technical/mechanical error.

Stobart the same as BP Ford.

the rest will obsiously drive to win.

I wouldnt be surprised though if we found Seb on top of the rostrum since if Mikko is going to push there is a risk that he will make a mistake.

The stages are all new this year arent they? this means that Seb has an advantage since he is a master of learning and memorising new stages.

This is an interesting mix.

Seb is a dab hand at memorizing new stages but the nature of the stages is still similar to Obihiro in many ways. It caught Seb out last year.

Ford naturally will push all the way, manufacturers title and pride on the line. Also considering the current financial circumstances, all good news is required in order to ensure a healthy 2009.

Subaru and Suzuki are both under pressure to perform under the glare of their home country and manufacturer's headquarters. There is some upbeat news coming out of both camps regarding their gravel preparedness, however it will most likely be a battle to be the best of the rest. I hope I am wrong and that they can prove better than this, Subaru have been able to be stage leaders in Japan over the past few years.

PWRC is interesting too, none the least for the first appearance of the Evo X.

PWRC is interesting too

I bet there will be at least one russian driver on the podium. ;) Vertunov from Subaru Rally Team Russia was 4th here last year, so maybe he can finish one place higher this time?..
