Oi oi oi, what for art thou putting a thread about Top Gear Australia in the Touring Car Section for you daft bugger I hear you say. Well to those who may pooh pooh this topic, here be the reason:

Charlie Cox drove in the BTCC in the early 90s before that accident at Thruxton.

He is rather professional at his job, mind you he's been doing the job on radio for quite some time now.

He missed a couple MotoGP races for the Beeb because of filming conflicts.

No, I was wondering why you were writing in 1000000000 year old language....

back on the subject - I don't see why TG australia needs an ex race driver and the Stig ? arnt they the same thing?

Cox a natural behind the camera, even though he's been shoehorned in the JC role. I love the way the TG Australia track has a corner called the "Clarkson curve" though...

Who took Cox's place calling the MotoGP...i wonder if he is going to keep with it?

Did a few races after the crash as well, returning for the final few rounds in a 5dr Mondeo

Cox is pretty good! Although I really don't see the point of calling it Top Gear Australia - it really applies a lot of pressure to the producers to make it similar to the UK Top Gear, and as good as the UK Top Gear.

Still unconvinced on Brown and Pizzati. I stopped watching it after half an hour.

Bah, another Holden versus Ford waste of time (at least it will turn out to be that way in time).

It was amazing how similar it was, I know obviously they want it like that. But it was unreal. Surely they'd like it a bit different with their own twists a little, but it was like EXACTLY the same. Next week though VAUXHALL *cough* Holden, v FORD!

Hmmm.

when Charlie Cox first came to England, I met him Quite often at races in the uk as he raced in the National Saloon car Championship with a Ford Escort Cosworth I was helping a friend compete in the same championship.
He was managed by a guy called Gerard (Souter) ?,and I have forgotten his surname
Paul Radisich, kurt Luby and Slim Borggud also appeared in this championship when,it was 2 driver races. This would be about 1994/5

I honestly thought it wasnt too bad. They werent trying to be Clarkson, hammond and May... and they had some original segments. I'll give it another go next week

I think its great!

It just shows you can have a car orientated show, and have some fun too. Not what like Top Gear UK has become, something to entertain non-car folk.

Charlie Cox used to do the BTCC commentary, is that right? If its the guy i think it is, then he should be on the BBC's F1 commentary team. Best commentator behind Walker.

He did do the BTCC commentary, then in 2002/03 he commentated WSBK for the BBC, then from 2004-now he does the MotoGP commentary for them

Thoroughly enjoyed that episode. Loved Wozza's cartoon of the Indian landrover. Hope they can maintain it/ improve on it.

Better episode than the first. That Smart car hearse was genius...

I think they still are a little soft on the car reviews I want them to be a little bit more critic.

Same here, they were very impartial on the Holden v Ford review.

But I loved the wrecking of those "utes".

Where can you watch it?

ChrisS

Holden Vs Ford was a let down, they did almost nothing. they could have made an entire episode out of it.

The Smart hearse was stupid they just got a black Smart added a few flowers and a coffin in the back and drove around doing nothing.

Also I think they try to be like the BBC presenters too much, as seen in the utes challenge:
Charlie Cox goes for more bhp, unnecessary features, comfort etc, like Clarkson
Steve Pizzati is more sensible but also like powerful cars like Hammond
Warren Brown doesnt care for speed, likes odd cars and gets lost like May

They should just be themselves.

I think the show has potential but it still needs a lot of work. I hope they give it a chance, apparently a lot fewer people tuned in for ep2 and it was last in the ratings in its time slot.

I would agree with ChrisS but they are still funny and I see what you mean by Charlie Cox, he really is a natural!
