Though I think the best option is to remain as is, I would think the best result for a 'control' tyre would be for Bridgestone to get the gig given all the manufacturers have runners on the Anglo-Japanese rubber. I guess it depends what offers come in and what value the MotoGP organisers place on history as Michelin have been great supporters over a long time whereas Bridgestone are relative newcomers.

IMO, to ensure fairness a single supplier or control tyre supplier should go to a manufacturer not in MotoGP at this time.

Otherwise, should the supplier go to either Bridgestone or Michelin the current runners of that companies products has a decided advantage of those using the alternate brand this year.

But, with that said I think the idea of a single supplier or control tyre is an absolute joke anyway and one that will not improve the spectacle (the likely true aim) nor safety (the stated aim).

Wrong move I'm afraid. I follow F1 and WRC, and they've also misguidedly gone 'single' supplier. I thought the whole premise of top level Motorsport was to improve technology and provide competition, not only between teams/riders/drivers but engine suppliers, fuel, tyres, etc Where is the competiton if it's just one supplier. It's okay in junior classes/formulae, but not in the 'Blue Riband' classes, and whatever Carmelo Espolito and all say - it's complete rubbish.
It seems as though Michelin are going to end up with no top level Motorsport, having been shafted by FIA for the Indy 2005 farce. Which is a shame as I consider Michelin a the Number 1 tyre company,

Definitely a mistake, as a former die-hard F1 fan, now teetering on the edge towards total apathy to it, I have to say the move to a single tyre supplier in 2007 has made the racing considerably more boring (the same two teams win every race now unless there's a safety car to mess things up), whereas when you had two different suppliers, when one had the edge it at least gave some unfashionable teams a chance.

I agree with the poster above, a single tyre is *just about* bearable in lower categories (although still fundamentally wrong, at least it's sort-of understandable) it has no place in MotoGP. Or F1. Or WRC. Or IndyCar. Or....well you get me.

I agree with Michelin being shafted by the FIA as well. They've always struck me as a company with a lot of integrity who passionately believe in the "competition improves the breed" idea.

Personally, I just now go out my way to boycott any Bridgestone products since they became "THE ONLY F1 TYRE" (tm). My money says they'll get the MotoGP tender (*shudders*...I hate that word) as well.
