Who's gonna win it? :p :

I've got to say Lowndes and Whincup, again.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me? I'm really into the v8 supercars and just wondered if anyone knew if the bathurst 1000 race is being televised in the UK anytime during the weekend. If so what channel would it be on. I really enjoy watching the races but can't always find out when they are on.
Thank you.

I thought it was motors tv who showed it. It's either them or eurosport for sure

Lowndes/Whincup or Winterbottom/Richards, in my opinion.

Looks like an all-nighter then for all those in the UK. A change from us in Australia staying up all night to watch the latest sport in Europe. Although you guys will have the rest of Sunday to sleep it off. We go straight to work for a regular Monday morning.

I am nearly set. New tv is in place, armchair is right & will have drinks & food within arms reach. Even taking Friday off work to watch the coverage on that day. You have to love annual rituals like this.

I once watched the Japanese Grand Prix in the middle of the Bathurst 1000.

Normally GPs seem to drag on but Bathurst gets you in the mode to just sit there and take it all in - as a result I was quite startled at how quickly the pitstops went by in F1.

Three safety cars in the first 14 lap development series touring car race. Plus two main series cars are out after a frightening accident at the top of the mountain. Paul Weel has been airlifted to Westmead Hospital in Sydney but is otherwise alright.

Livewireshock
10th October 2008, 04:02
Paul Weel had crashed on his own at the top of the mountain, Brad Jones was able to get past but Chris Pither in the Team Kiwi car could not pull up in time and crashed into the rear drivers side door with horrific results. Both cars are write offs.

Chris Pither gets thr prize for stupidest driving. Ahead of him two cars got past avoiding an accident. Remember too that someone died following being hit in a similar accident at that corner two years ago.

Presumably there were waved yellows all the way from The Cutting...given the position of the car and what happened last year, Reds might have been better until the car was moved.

Pither claims that he only saw a yellow flag 150m before impacting with Weel's car. It will always remain a hot point to debate. So many factors come into play.

Being on a self declared hot lap, Pither may more commited to the line he took. The other two cars may not have been at full race pace as is often the case during free practice, thus were able to react differently.

There are too many if, buts and maybes involved for us to condemn a person from the comforts of our seats watching on tv. I am sure the powers that be will investigate fully into this and it is their place, and not ours, to pass judgement on this incident.

I'm just thankful they're both okay after this. I'm not looking to apportion blame (unlike Crompton!!!) but the YouTube video where he made the claims about the yellow flags is telling. If you've got a blind brow and the speeds the cars pull through there should have been waved yellows from the Cutting to warn of the danger and get the cars slowed down.

Jones has already said there were no yellows when he went though.

Ouch, they don't usually start driving into each other until race day. Good to hear no serious injuries though.
Also pleased to hear it will be showing live in the UK - thought i might not get to see it this year. Now i just need to find someone/somewhere with Motors TV - go Murph!

After seeing Mark Porter's crash live on TV 2 years ago, I'm happy that no one was seriously injured. Yes there should have been double waived yellows because that is a seriously fast blind corner.

Murphy and J.Richards look pretty fast. Surprising because that car has been largely rubbish and unreliable the whole season. Interesting to see the two open-wheel guys Courtney and Besnard into 4th after qualifying as well.

Free practice is on for saturday but has lost 40 out of the 60 minutes because Radisich had a throttle jammed open across the top of the mountain, going straight across the gravel trap at McPhillamy and into a concrete wall. He is ok but has broken his right ankle it is suspected at this stage. He has been transferred to Bathurst Hospital to have that looked at further.

HSV Motorsport have said that the car will be repaired with a drive TBA to replace Paul.

When practice was restarted, Jason Richards did a fastest lap that was is the second fastest ever recorded.

The race is over, the beer has been drunk (well almost all of it) and Lowndes & Whinncup have won their third victory in a row. It was a great day and all the usual wonders and heartaches.

The biggest question mark arising from the day is the obvious failure of so many tyres, mostly left rears. Originally put down to low starting air pressures but after being advised to raise them, more tyres continued to fail.

Hoping that Paul Radisich gets better soon! Sounds like he may be out of action for a while with two broken ankles.

The crash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnkok462Hw4) looked extremely unlucky, straight into a concrete wall.

I really hope Radisich recovers well after that nasty crash.

Very surprised at Murph and Richards finishing second, I thought it'd be downhill once they got hit by Lowndes and Whincup.

Well done to Lowndes and Whincup. Clearly the best team, and driver pairing, out there.

There were a lot of dumb accidents and unnecessary safety cars, as always. One thing I found rather funny was the Stone Brothers team thinking that there was a problem in Bernards car, because it was so slow. So they adjusted the rear roll centre when there was a driver change only to find out that Bernard was just slow. Which cost Courtney, because he then had to drive in an ill set-up car for another stint.

Lots of teams shoot themselves in the foot by having second-rate or journeyman drivers as the second drivers. See: Bernard paired with James Courtney, Morris paired with Russell Ingall, etc.

Marc Hynes was terrible. I think Supercheap Auto should try getting another touring car driver in Giovanardi's league next time. Because most of the time, Hynes was running onto the grass at the chase, lap after lap after lap.

Lowndes/Whicup was the best pair and in that car it was no surprise they won - very happy for them.

Poor Rat...nasty crash, I hope he recovers.

Agreed on some of the drivers...Hynes was terrible, the Neal/Said combination was just as bad. Got to feel for Coutrney though he looked good this weekend and as you say was hampered by a sub-standard co-driver.

It's pretty bad that they had an unprotected concrete wall after the runoff area. It was only after he'd broken his ankles that they thought that putting more tyres there would've been a good idea :\

I stayed up all nite on sat to watch the race and loved every min of it.I was very supprised by the speed of the murph and richards car, Stevie Richards cant go with out a mention tho he was fighting rite up there with a dog of a car.

The Radisich accident was a shocker, just as he looks like he's getting a bit of luck (nz v8's) this goes and happens. I hope he can recover fully. it sounds like the poor fella is in abit of pain.

One last little mention for Gio, that boy sure knows how to drive a race car he impresses me more everytime i watch him race.

The actual problem with this incident was a slow puncture of the left rear tyre, rather than Besnard's speed.

Gio was heading for a top 10 finish and got taken out on the 2nd corner. He drove very well seeing as it was his debut. Neal spent a lot of time driven in the kitty litter.
The funnest part was the driver parade at the start when the guy introducing the drivers struggled to pronounce Fabrizo Giovanardi's name. Gio was pissing himself laughing as he walked on because of it. :D
