Kevin Harvick Inc. has entered Ricky Carmichael for the October 3 ARCA RE/MAX race at Talladega.
It would mark Carmichael's first ARCA RE/MAX Series start and his first race in a KHI entry.
I am surprised that ARCA would certify Carmichael for a superspeedway race as his 1st.

It just going straight and turn a little bit occasionally - what could go wrong?

Oh....I don't know...how about a 12 car pile up at 190mph? They can happen at Talladega real easy. That said, Carmichael has been tutored by the likes of Mark Martin so if he wasn't ready, he would have heard about it. Heck, Jacques Villeneuve made one of his first Cup starts at Talladega. Racing there isn't that tough as long as you just hang on and don't pretend to understand the draft and the hows and whys of how you utilize it right away. Rookies at Daytona and Talladega discover quickly it is easy to drive the track solo, but with cars on all sides buffetting and bouncing around you just inches away, actually racing is a lot more complicated. It aint rocket science, but it isn't easy either. Ricky will do ok, it isn't like he hasn't seen this sort of racing before. I can imagine the first time JPM was in the draft and what he was thinking.......

Also, ARCA will let damn near anyone within reason race on the Superspeedway because that is their mandate and any name trying to make their way in NASCAR on the superspeedways usually is given the chance to run ARCA. The guys are a lot more spread out due to the differences in the quality of teams and they also tend to be more careful. Tossing him in a COT in a Cup race would be crazy but this is where you learn this type of racing....

The difference is that Montoya had experience on 4 WHEELS @ speeds in excess of 230 mph ... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif

Carmichael is a 2-wheel champion & his experience in racing 4-wheel cars is sadly lacking ... http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/images/smilies/roll_eyes.gif
Talladega as his 1st race in a ARCA car is very bold to say the least ... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/rolleyes.gif
IMO Carmichael will likely take 4 wheels into a Talladega wall ... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/eek.gif

Unfortunately, I think you're right... if the fans can see this coming a mile (or 2.66 miles) away, why can't Carmichael/ARCA?

A guy changing disciplines gets his first stock car start at Talladega.

Yep, I've heard this story before.

comparing an Indy/F1 car to a stockcar. now there is some apples to oranges.

why do you alwas have to assume that just because its dega, the guy is gonna crash. Harvick obviously sees big things in him and wants to put him in the third truck at KHI.

its also not like this will be his first ever stockcar race, as he has been running in the Camping World East Championship. everyone has got to start somewhere. they are following your ABC plan and you still blast the guy.

Several ARCA racecars are old NASCAR Cup cars, however I think the engines are "crate" engines.
The speeds in ARCA @ Talladega are still very fast, there lies the danger.
I would have started Carmichael @ a lower speed racetrack in an ARCA racecar.
KHI wants to start Carmichael @ Daytona in CTS but there is no substitute for experience. http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/images/smilies/roll_eyes.gif

No doubt NASCAR will be watching the ARCA Talladega race ...
because Carmichael's Daytona CTS certification hangs in the balance. http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/eek.gif

STan...it is like Sex. Sooner or later or later you have to have a first time....If Harvick is willing to think he is ready, who are we who have never driven that fast to criticize?
