Actually, lots of riders complained about the changing surface having no grip. Most thought the layout was pretty good and overall it's satisfactory for a first up attempt but some safety aspects have to be better next year.
I'm soo happy for Ant, hopefully he can keep it going for the rest of the weekend and give Kawasaki a long overdue win. How amusing would it be if the on-his-way-out West got Team Green their first win before their prized recruit in Hopkins. :) It would be like deja vu for Hopper to have a less fancied teammate score a win before him!

Anyone notice that the race is completely missing from NBC TV Schedules in your area ? I am unable to find the race listed on the NBC affiliate KARE NBC out of Minneapolis. I've been seeing other comments across the gunternet about the race not being broadcast in many areas.
What the f*** ? How does having a historic race in the US and not broadcasting the crap out of it everywhere help to build MotoGP popularity ???

And thus ends any dreams of West/Kawasaki competitiveness.
Massive effort by Ben Spies to qualify 5th. Also nice to see Nicky back up the front for his Honda farewell tour :) . Looks like Michelin have improved as well.

Seems the Indy people love to promote the past and present, which is good for the sport.
One thing I noticed from the IMS site: Who needs those umbrella girls posing like cops that the real Gold Shirts would object (Rizla+)? Who needs these half-dressed women parading around the grid when Tissot has Danica Patrick in an Tissot sport shirt and slacks presenting the top riders with their prizes? Her dad got a ride in the 2-seat MotoGP bike.

Forecast rain may affect race start time
By Toby MoodySaturday, September 13th 2008, 17:38 GMT
The forecast of torrential rain storms could affect the starting time of the inaugural Indianapolis MotoGP tomorrow.
All riders and race officials agreed last night, during the Safety Commission meeting, that if conditions were as bad as they were yesterday during the first day of practice, then all races may not even take place.
The storms are forecast to be arriving in the Indianapolis area in the afternoon, around the time of the MotoGP race which is scheduled at 3pm local time.
Should officials see that the worst of the weather will arrive during the third and final race of the day, the MotoGP race, then that race may well be brought forward to try and avoid such downpours.
In the meantime, today has been dry but extremely humid.

Stoner: conditions may be unsafe for race
By Simon StrangFriday, September 12th 2008, 21:56 GMT
World champion Casey Stoner believes Sunday's race at Indianapolis should not take place for safety reasons if torrential rain does not subside by the time of the inaugural MotoGP race at the venue.
The Ducati rider crashed during first practice due to a lack of grip (he has fallen in all of the last four race weekends), and questioned the level of adhesion on the areas of the circuit where new asphalt has been laid.
"The track conditions vary drastically between the old surface and the new," said the 22-year-old, who was eighth fastest today. "Grip is good on the old stuff but there isn't even minimum grip on the recently laid asphalt and the rain makes it much worse because it isn't draining off.
"If it continues to rain like it did this afternoon then I'm not sure the conditions will be safe enough to race in.
"As far as the layout is concerned there are only a couple of critical areas - in particular Turn Five, where the run-off is very short," he added. "There's not much we can do about that right now though - the best thing would be to stick an air-fence in.
"This morning I crashed on the section where the grip is poorest and that's obviously not good for the wrist but thankfully it didn't create any major problems."
Stoner's teammate Marco Melandri, who was tenth fastest, echoed the Australian's comments, adding that in the wet the surface changes had made the track unpredictable to ride on.
"I like the design of the circuit - it's fun but unfortunately there are too many different types of asphalt and the new part is definitely the worst, especially with the rain," he said. "The bike tends to aquaplane and you can't see anything because of the reflection off the water.
"Grip on the older part is good, although if it keeps raining it's going to get really difficult. There are two or three dangerous corners: turns one, five and six, where the walls are too close.
"This morning we started out cautiously but we improved towards the end, whilst this afternoon we didn't get chance to make too many improvements because the conditions were so bad."

What the hell was that?
Deciding to end it under a red flag, and waffle on wether to go back on the track or not. This was not a good way to stage a race, but then again they were dealing with the remnants of Hurricane Ike.
Maybe next season they will have better go at this. :)

maybe moving it in august after brickyard 400 has been and done, I would like to see Laguna and Indy having back to back races instead imo.

250cc race has finally been called off due to the conditions - Eurosport reported that the Suzuki and Alice Ducati pit tents had basically blown down in the wind!
Sensible decision on the 250s, so I guess we're done for today.

I though a red flag past 2/3 of the race is immediate result but that it seems is only for 125s and 250s. For MotoGP is a restart, a rule that is this way obviously for TV.
125 was a good race with the battle for 4th giving some crazy racing. I hope the US fans enjoyed it as they dont get to see the smokers in Laguna. congrats to Terol for his 1st win, Espargaro was a lap too late to take the win. Bradl contined with the good results and Redding is starting to make a name for himself in 125s
It was good to see bikes of both tyre manufacturers going well in MotoGP, I though Stoner was gone when he got in the lead while Rossi had to pass 2-3 riders but the Michelin riders had very good pace.
The Yamahas once again both worked great. Nice to see Hayden on form, and also shame to see Dovi giving it all his got but the bike not being up to it, the same thing he had in 250, its time to get a top bike.

Well I think the race was a financial success. If Tony George sold 100,000 seats at an average price of $75 per head, then the race made $7.5 million in ticket sales minus a $6 million sanctioning fee. And that's before merchandise, consessions, and taxes.

Indy Moto GP 2008 was a very nerve racking race to watch, an absolute suprise to see no one fall off just shows the skill of all the riders taking part, a big shout out to Rossi for his fourth win in a row, and the right decision was taken to call it a result, was getting very windy there although sun was coming out, would of loved to have seen a dry hot race.
Serves little baby Pedrosa right who finished eigth, what a spoiled brat was so glad to see Guintoli Pass him on last years Ducati ( dont get me Started ) thowing his toys out of the pram.
Glad to see Hayden on Podium well deserved think he was letting riding tell a story very badly treated by Honda, they have put there eggs all in one basket serves them right too.
Although im not his biggest fan good result for Lorenzo someone who is very bad in wet conditions, he did well.
Well Done to all at Fiat Yamaha.
Bring on next round in China in 2 weeks time.

Well, it was an interesting weekend thats for sure. I had no idea they ran these things in the rain. These guys are crazy!http://www.worldracingforum.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
I enjoyed it though. My first time at a motorcycle race. These guys do amazing things on these bikes. What was wild was the Red Bull Rookies Cup. These were boys 13-15 years old! Not old enough to legally drive but out there racing bikes, just crazy.
I have to give credit to Nicky Hayden out there riding with a broken heel. Thats determination.
The weather was good Saturday but Sunday was horrible. It was rainy and the wind was strong as heck. 50-60mph gusts. They cancelled the 250cc race and they cut the MotoGP race short by 7 laps due to the wind. A good call for safety.
The crowd would of been a lot bigger had the weather been a lot better. But Indianapolis gave a great show anyhow and they will be back thats for sure. Next year its moved up a couple weeks and hopefully the weather will cooperate.
Oh, and Danica was there Saturday to present the pole sitter with a Tissot watch. Seeing how I was working security, I was down at the green room/media center and got to speak with her for awhile. That was actually my highlight of the weekend.http://www.worldracingforum.com/images/smilies/wink.gifhttp://www.worldracingforum.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

wow, it's odd that the race ended for winds but the track announcer neglected to tell the fans in the stands. a lot of cursing and muttering was directed the direction of race control. we simply had no clue that it was a final call and it was due to winds. we were told, they might re-start.
anyway, i flew the aussie flag high really hoping for womething special from westy, but alas, it was not to be. nicky, dovi, rossi, lorenzo and spies were standouts yesterday, which was ok because the crowd was really into it given that nicky and the doctor were the fan favorites.
i am definitely heading back next year. had a grand time.
