Can't say I blame them really, though the WTCC isn't much healthier than the WRC at the moment.
Mitsubishi are also meant to be racing the new Lancer, according to Motorsport News.

How cool it would be if in couple of years we wouldn't have a single official manufacturer team in WRC ?? Only privateer team entries. :bounce:

:dozey:

Actually it isn't that bad - we would go back around 30-40 years and have only private entries and lots of different cars from different manufacturers.

Yes, i'm being sarcastic.... :dozey:

:dozey:

Sad to say but that is exactly what needs to happen, the WRC will have to hit rock bottom before the FIA/WRC administration allows any significant change for the better.

It could happen, the sport might be better off without the Manufacturers and their whims and wishes. Just cars entered by Prep companies, Privateers.

I still don't see where Citroën would go instead of WRC if there wouldn't be any manus anymore

DTM - In 2010 - watch this space, or maybe Rallycross, Loeb has been rumoured to want to try ERC with the Keneth Hansen C4

I can understand if Subaru is trying something different after all these years of rallying but WTCC??? I don't know about that. As already mentioned, WTCC won't be much better than WRC in terms of publicity, and Subaru doesn't have car to race with. Subaru races with Impreza in GT300 class of Super GT here in Japan, but they are struggling as much on the race track as on SS if not more (although they have one more win on the race track than in WRC :D )

correct me if i'm wrong... but if they go to WTCC they can't run AWD can they? If they can't there is no reason for subaru to do it...

Good. Perhaps something good will come of it.

Perhaps the F1A will realise there is more than one Motorsport around. The way they have treated it is unforgivable.
While Manufacturers are important - they are in it to sell cars - but come and go depending on various factors, maybe it should be less Manufacturer driven.

Amen to that. I don't see how the carbon fibre, titanium and other exotic materials make the WRC better or have any links to road cars. Ban those materials and the cars get a lot cheaper to buy and run....

The latest WRCars are fantastic pieces of kit, all the latest electronic gizmos, paddle shift gearboxes, carbon fibre, titanium, etc. But, as you say, totally irrelevant to a ‘normal family’ road car. If we accept that the cars used are meant to be ‘Production based’ then all modern technology isn’t acceptable. At the moment I would class WRCars as ‘Prototypes’ like F1 cars and MotoGP bikes.
It seems to me that F1A, Manufacturers and fans want different things. Personally, I want cheap, easy to produce cars that are loud, spectacular and need driving by the driver – not with help from technology. As most road cars are FWD, that would seem the sensible plan, but people are hung up on 4WD. If there is one in their range use it, if not – tough!! I suspect it will stay 4WD.

Confirmed on swrt.com that Mads Ostberg will be in the Subaru / Adapta team. 10 rounds in Europe + option for Argentina and Australia. Hoping for someone else to join the team.

A WTCC car is more expensive compared to a S2000 although it’s only a 2WD car. Last year the WTCC BMW’s price was 275.000 € (car + kit, doesn’t include the assembling of the WTCC car). I’ve watched few WTCC races and was not so bad but I like rallying more, it’s more spectacular.

Same here. But as racing goes S2000 can be quite good :)

And the fastest of the rich boys would be the world championship. I don’t think there would be a world championship without manufacturers. As last in IRC nor Abarth or Pug went to China because both manufacturers’ and drivers championship was solved.

Know were you're coming from, but the Manufacturers haven't always got the best interests of the sport in mind - only what thay can gain from it.

koko, Isn't that a private team in SuperGT?

Yes and no. Cusco Racing, which runs Impreza GT car in Supar GT, is like semi-works or factory-backed team. In fact, Subaru's official web page has the section for Cusco Racing Impreza along with WRC program section, so I wouldn't say it is totally a private effort.
