View Full Version : Bad Language

As somebody who's utter pants at expressing herself without a great many profanities, I'm still a bit unclear on what's deemed bad language on here.

Bloody - is that okay? I tend to use ruddy or bloddy, but somebody recently sent me a message saying I'd gone all soppy in my old age because of it

There was a thread about this subject, but so far I've not found it. Sorry if the topic's been done already.

Hazell - I believe the answer is, "it all depends."

Hazell, any word should be acceptable as long as it isn't censored.
I do not find the words "bloody" or "ruddy" inappropiate in any way.

As long as Mark isn't telling you not to use a certain word, then use it all you want. ;)

There are the obvious obscenities of course, however I've always thought that the associated acronyms should be censored as well. For example, the meaning of "WTF" is quite obvious, and to a lesser extend "FFS". Both of which I find unacceptable in what is supposed to be a family forum :mark: .

Good point Schmenke - although it took me ages to work out some of the acronyms used here :p :

Some words are seen as perfectly okay in the UK, yet raise screams in other countries. Faggots are a food item here, for example. What about words like that - anyone?

Damnit, I never knew that :mark:

Bugger is fine to use?...

I really don't know :mark:
Is it?
It's considered quite a mild profanity on this side of the pond :mark:

Perkele paska!
Can I use profanities of other languages?

But I find it much more fun to use "good" terms like:
defecating instead of crapping
urinating instead of pissing
excrement instead of ****
fornicate instead of ****

also, there are ordure, filth, fecula, cowdung, ornithocopros, turd, rot

it's going to be fun :s mokin: (shttt, is smoking allowed here? )

Isn't that a reference to male homosexuality and the way they do it?

LOL!

Perhaps foreign language curses are only acceptable if you write them using a cuneiform stylus.

See what I mean about different countries thinking different things?

Yes, it may be loosely as you say, but is a very mild word here used to just mean 'damn' or 'pants' when you drop your toast in the morning. I've not heard it used as a homophobic word here. Would it be offensive elsewhere?

I got a warning for bad language. :bigcry: I didn't actually say the word, it just rhymed with plucking.

A word of advice, don't trust the filter to catch every "bad" word.
It doesn't catch them all !
I tested the filter in an obscure place & I made Andrea blush.

If you are unsure of a word, I recommend you choose another word.
You don't want to get one of these : http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/cy.gif or one of these : http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/cr.gif

It's a word that "could" lead to a guy getting a knuckle sandwich! Humor, slang, colloquialisms rarely travel well. I doubt many Americans would have any understanding of why you would use the word pants as an expletive. YMMV.

Klingon?

Klingon?

Actually, Klingon has been well documented as a Germanic type language. Oh dear - that's an alien language, not a foreign language. :D

I don't know which term is more appropriate, coward or as Erki calls them, Rep Abusers, but the coward/rep abuser hit me with negative and the following intelligent comment for this thread, !&+*#!@!()#1!+*#. so I now stand at -8496 point(s) total .
