Webzine, rally.com.au reports that the Britek Motorsport built Fiestas have achieved FIA homologation for competition in the Asia-Pacific region. The article also hints that the Auris (Corolla) homologation is not too far away.

Why would the Auris be homologated if it is being fully FIA homologated in South Africa, this application is already in and as far as i know virtually complete.

Good question! The article only hinted at the Auris homologation. It may have even been referring to the homolgation emanating from South Africa, though the cars currently running in Australia were developed independently, AFAIK. If it is a separate homologation it does seem redundant.
The Fiesta's homologation is a 'regional' one, which I understand requires a special dispensation from the FIA, the aim of which is to promote regional motor sport. The actual process is not explained in any FIA regulations. There have been numerous previous instances of this 'regional' homologation.
IIRC, several years ago there were three separate homologations of the same VW Golf model on that year's homologation list. One in Germany, one in South Africa and one in China!!! There was a notation next to the latter two stating that such cars could only be used within their respective regions.

Im not really up to date with the ins and outs of FIA homologation, but do understand that SA given the go ahead by Toyota Japan to acquire the full FIA homologation.

I can say that the SA version is very impressive, i incidently co-drive a lower class version of the Auris which has the same build quality which is awesome. I expect the Auris will make its way to Europe fairly soon.

Each homologation is only going to be regional - for Australia, and for SA. There will not be a global FIA homologation by Toyota.

Info from Toyota Motor Compnay, Japan.

In the case of the Australian car, regional homologation means it can be used in FIA events within Asia-Pacific. For 2009 this includes all rounds of the APRC and the Australian and Japanese (if on the calendar) rounds of the WRC. Source: Garry Connelly (Australian delegate to FIA World Council).

S2000 post R5:

It is a strage thing that it seems to be fewer than you should think that is in use.
But looking closely into e-wrc db it is actually quite a number still in use in national series.
Some have put in a 2500 millington as well.

Prices are also keeping up, with 100-120 000 Euro for a weel maintained car.

The thing I miss the most is the sound. Standing in the forrest you could hear them from a long distance, and follow them getting closer and pass. Miss the sound - it is a real racecar.
Shame on FIA for killing them!

And be 100% accurate. Mistakes mean much time lost, mostly due to a narrow powerband on the NA engine.
same with R2 and R3 NA, now all youngsters are going through a different learning process. They dont even have to worry about turbolagging.....

Mirek

Somebody obviously uploaded a copy on youtube. I'm posting it because what is at the beginning was IMHO the most spectacular S2000 drive I have ever witnessed. I don't know why but the final car never was so spectacular like this raw prorotype!
