Today I started adding to RallyBase the birthdates that Rewind has posted on this forum last year.

For 1973 Spanish Champion Jorge Bäbler he could only find that Bäbler died in August 1990. jrally has found an article in Spanish magazine 'Auto Hebdo Sport' which says Bäbler was killed in a traffic accident "in the first days of August" and found a mention that it happened just before his birthday (9 August). Can anyone confirm that the accident happened on 8 August 1990? Or knows the day if it was earlier?

He died the same day, 9th august, of his 43th birthday when other car crossed the border in a motorway when the driver fell slept

The 1973 Scottish entry list shows "John Lindsay" as co-driver of Alistair Robertson's Saab. The 1972 list shows "Anderson Lindsay". So I suggest you go with "John". Initials as "J.A." sound vaguely familiar.
I thought he was "Jock"!

The 72 Dukeries was a one day event, not two day (I competed in it and we drove up from London very early in the morning (and back that night, stopping to eat at Leicester Forest M1 services!). (There may have been an optional scrutineering the evening before, thus creating two dates?)

I also did the 72 Lindisfarne but that was a bit too far as a day trip - we all stayed in caravans at Whitley Bay and Gordon Jarvis, later to be Richard Burns' "mentor", was in the one next to ours!

72 Red Dragon (29/30 January):

FAL

We discussed the Mintex on another forum (jorge or carles may remember which?) and I'm sure someone had 2nd and 3rd. Clark would have been in Escort RS1600 (actually about 1850cc) LVX941J, not a TC.
As to the edition, it was the "Mintex Dales Rally" in 72 (and 73, when I did it) and may have still been the "Seven Dales Rally" in 71, so 72 may have been the first of that name. (we sorted that out too somewhere else? - TNF?)

I was at the 72 Burmah too and I am sure it was fairly late in August.

71 Nutcracker:
Start Aberdare.
Final control was "Prynnes". Not entirely sure if this was the finish venue (Prynnes Country Club?).

71 Welsh
Start: Howells Garage, Newport Road, Cardiff (I was there too!).
Finish: Bindles Ballroom, The Knapp, Barry (near Cardiff) (although to be classified as a finisher you had to also start (but not finish!) the 10 lap races at Llandow Circuit, near Cowbridge).

Prynne's was a roadside fuel station and cafe. It's still there albeit a graveyard for old coaches.

Iam going back quite a bit in my gray cell area but the person you are looking for co/drove for Alastair IN THE 60s AND 70s was Pers Lindsay from Windygates in Fife Scotland

On April 23 1978 a certain Italian by the name of Osvaldo Galatini took part in the European Rallycross Championship round at the 'Rallypista Santo Spirito' at Gropello-Cairoli near Pavia in Italy with a Lancia. As I guess that Osvaldo Galatini was a Rally driver does anyone know what model of Lancia he used for rallying in 1978?

I found a certain G.Grimshaw in an Austin Healey 3000 classified in 205th position in Monte Carlo'62. Is it possible that "Don" is a short form of "Gordon"?

Many thanks Janusz,That is a missprint,I have the info for 62 and what you say is correct.I have known the car for a long while, restored it back in the early eighties etc.I had a call from an ex-owner telling me he and a friend had bought the car in 63/63,it had been damaged on what he understood to have been the Monte, when he bought it he was told that it was actually the ex Pat Moss car before it was sold to Donald Grimshaw.I do have photos of the car in its damaged state, but I am trying to ascertain the year the photo was taken,ie,63 or 64.Could you tell me where you found your information please?

Since I was working on some early 60s RAC Rally data anyway, I had a look for DG. He was entered on the 61 RAC as No.18 with Brian Melia and the 62 RAC as No.46 with G.Allen. Healey both years - presumably carrying registration DG95 rather than a works reg, whether or not the same car?

Thats great Fal,many thanks, yet again.Donald bought the ex Pat Moss car from the works and always used the DG number.
As there is no record of it for 64,that narrows things down a bit,the old photo sent to me shows the car having the earlier mentioned damage, that must have been in 63,the year Donald sold it immediately after it came back from the Monte. In 63,it was involved in a nasty accident, the co-driver died from sustained head injurys, possibly would have survived had he been wearing his harness! Another owner Graham Gramma I think, has stated that he owned the car in 1968 so I just have the five year gap to sort out.I know the car was kept in London during 66/67 but cannot trace the Dealer,it is thought that he emigrated to Spain. The rest of the cars history has been authenticated.

That wouldn't have been Derek Astle, who was killed on the Tulip Rally? Not sure of year but thought it was 62 but may have been 63. He had a Healey 3000 and was in Knowldale Car Club with Don Grimshaw, according to Stuart Turner's book.
Any idea which part of London the dealer in 66/7? If west London, Chequered Flag or Performance Cars ought to be in the frame?

That wouldn't have been Derek Astle, who was killed on the Tulip Rally? Not sure of year but thought it was 62 but may have been 63. He had a Healey 3000 and was in Knowldale Car Club with Don Grimshaw, according to Stuart Turner's book.
Any idea which part of London the dealer in 66/7? If west London, Chequered Flag or Performance Cars ought to be in the frame?

FAL,unfortunatly I have not been able to find out where in London the car was kept, yet!
It was Derek in 63,thats when the car was sold on [as a wreck] From What I understand,Donald did the Tulip with Derek doing the driving,Donald took over[as co- driver] and put it off,the rest, sadly,is history.

I found a certain G.Grimshaw in an Austin Healey 3000 classified in 205th position in Monte Carlo'62. Is it possible that "Don" is a short form of "Gordon"?
regards
Janusz

I've now seen a 1960 RAC Rally list with him shown as G.D.Grimshaw. I don't know what the G stood for but he was known by his second name Donald (Don).

It's not really history as such, but someone might have it. Does anyone have a complete list of every rally Andreas Mikkelsen has competed in so far (preferably with result)? inc. WRC, IRC, BRC, Subaru Cup etc.

Thanks, ps29

Giorgio, does the fact that you did not ask for the first name of Berscheid, co-driver of #36 Bos, mean that you know his full name?

ReWind, thank you for the extra additions - I'm working on them now.

Sumak, the co-driver of Neil Freeman in the 1993 RAC was Peter Whatmough. I don't know the answers to your other questions (as you might have guessed from that information being missing from RallyBase) and I'm interested in those answers as well :D

Reinhard, thank you for reminding me that I still had to do those long Swedish and Swiss lists. By the way, because the date is stored in the database as a DATE field, only complete dates show up in the profiles on the websites (just the year is not recognised as a valid date).

@kabouter:
Switzerland
Davide Bianchi: Don’t you think he is identical to the Italian one?

Unless he can compete in two cars in the same rally (Ticino 2002 car #25 and car #105) I'm pretty sure they are not identical.

Hi there, I'm trying to get my Rallybugs (http://www.rallybugs.com/results.htm) website results pages up to date, and have a number of holes.

Does anyone have the dates of the various Jänner Rallies of the 1970s?

A driver called Bisek (co-driver Helmut Neverla) - any idea on first name?

Any more results missing from the web pages would be gratefully received :-)

Cyprus Rally 1978 (29 September - 1 October): 7th Rossides / Koukoulides (I don't know their first names) with a VW 1302S

I have the co-driver of Leitner in the 1980 Jänner Rallye as Stürzlinger, not Stuerlinger.

Good luck with your website!

Just adding the Historic Acropolis results and for the 2003 event, the English results are still in Greek :-)

I am currently working on adding the last few missing European Championship rounds of 1999 to RallyBase, and discovered I have nothing in my archive on the 1999 Rallye Tatry. I found a short report with top 6 on internet (which matches with the top 6 in World Rallying), but nothing else:

As you can see I've only got the top 10, with times for the top 6 (from World Rallying). Can anyone help me find the full result (or at least the missing times) and the start list for this event?

Also for the 1999 Budapest Rallye (6 and 7 August) I only have the result from World Rallying (top 6 and F2 winner). I do have an entry list for this rally, but can anyone help me with the full result of this rally?

Shacki and Janusz, thank you both very much for your remarks.

Shacki, the number of 31 starters and 17 finishers matches the numbers given in World Rallying (I've only listed leading retirements in RallyBase, by the way).

For the YU Rally I've included Matoševič in 10th (and assumed Dobrohotov would have been 11th) until a more detailed (or official) result shows up.

Janusz, do you also know the time of Oroszlán in 8th?

The info about the 1993 Swedish start came from Rally Paradise: http://www.nic.fi/~globe1/rally/paradise/stat/dr_mokkonen_ari.htm

But I cannot now find my source for the 1992 information...

And thank you for the final time of Oroszlán, Janusz :)

First of all on http://www.mannisenmaki.com there is a confirmation of Risto's participation in Swedish Rally 1993 (Ruotsin Ralli). According to my data they (Mokkonen & Mannisenmaki) retired after SS3 with electric problems. Refering to Swedish 1992 I have Mokkonen with no co-driver specified among non starters. The only difference to RallyBase is the car. I have Galant VR-4 gr.N not Audi Coupe S2.

Swedish lady co-driver Ursula Wirth has - together with her husband - her own homepage. (LINK (http://web.telia.com/~u60521802/index.html?sidor/rally2.html~main))
Since I have seen her occasionally referred to as German I would like to ask whether someone knows where she was born.
Her full name is Karin Ursula Wirth which sounds quite German.
If you click on "Tidningsartikel" you will get a comprehensive portrait. Because it is in Swedish I do not fully understand its content.
It would be nice if someone from Sweden or with a command of the Swedish language could translate it.
Thank you very much.

Hi Friends,

I'm interested what is the REAL first name of the winner of 1981 Barum Rally. I'm also looking for the other his photos.

http://www.barum.rally.cz/2005/soutezici/rally_guide1/1,1_gb.htm

In the official webpage of Barum Rally is showed two name:

1. in the text: In 1981 it was their compatriot Andrea Zanussi with Porsche 911 SC who gained the victory.

2. under photo: Antonio Zanussi

Does any italian (or otherwise) member know for sure if there is co-driver named Stefano Cassina? There is some confusion about who co-drive Michele Rayneri in four WRC events in 1986 - I heard that all of those were by Carlo Cassina. Yet, I have two with Stefano and confirmed by World Rallying and Rallycourse books.

Yet, I have two with Stefano and confirmed by World Rallying and Rallycourse books.

I used World Rallying as my source as well. This website also mentions a Stefano Cassina as co-driver of Rayneri in the 1987 Targa Florio, but the photo is too small for me to able to read the co-driver name on the side of the car:
http://www.targaflorio.info/71.HTM

But that is the only mention I can find of a Stefano Cassina. So I guess this is a mistake (although hard to explain why both World Rallying and Rallycourse made it) and it was Carlo Cassina who co-drove Rayneri in those years.

Putting together historical piece on Porsche 911 wins at the Monte in the late 60's.

Question:Can someone confirm that the Group1/2/3 clasifications used on the 1969 edition were the same used in later years, until the coming of Group A and B?

It appears as if the first year for Group 4 on the Monte was 1970.

Thanks,

The titles (numbers) of the categories was the same from 1.1.66. to 31.12.81. but the detail varied considerably over the years. The "modifications freely permitted" in each group (quite separate from homologated "options" and "production alternatives") changed frequently. So the actual detailed regulations were not always the same year to year within each group. Gp2 (where the 911L was homologated) was probably affected by changes more than the others.

I would have thought a Gp2 911L was more potent than a Gp3 911S and much the same as a Gp4 911S, with only the 911T arriving in Gp4 with different heads providing much more performance?

All the major events would normally have had Gps1-4 categories. The Monte was run to a handicap system of some sort for many years later than many may now think it was and it may be that the Gp4 category was handicapped in some years so severely that few entered it. I would be surprised if there was no such category at all any year but maybe that was so.

(if pre-68 911s had been as consistently quick in period as they are now in British historic rallying, the entire history of the sport would have been very different.....)

In this thread on French sport-auto Forum (http://www.forum-auto.com/sport-auto/theme40/sujet378986.htm) Françoise Conconi (fc-06 (http://www.forum-auto.com/sport-auto/membres/295390.htm)) confirms that she was born on 12 May but she does not reveal in which year.
From contemporary statements about her age I think it must have been 1944 or 1945. So my assumption is she will turn 65 soon.

Not that far back, but it's also history: yesterday I completed adding the 2008 WRC results to RallyBase ( http://rallybase.nl/index.php?type=season&champid=wrc2008 ) - a big thank you goes to Matt of LazioStatistics ( http://laziostatistics.atspace.com/ ) who did most of the hard work.

As always when adding such a large amount of data at once, it is inevitable that I made some mistakes. So if you spot anything (wrong drivers/co-drivers, wrong cars, mistakes in the classification), please let me know either by PM on this forum or by e-mail (address on the website).

I'm looking for help with the British Rally Championship 2005 and 2006. The results are not online anymore, and now I am hoping that somebody saved the final results and retirements to his computer. Is there anybody who can provide me with the full results of the BRC rounds in 2005 and 2006 so I can add them to RallyBase?

I worked in the results teams on a number of those events & certainly have some of the full official results in PDF format. I will collect them together & send them to your "rallybase" email address.

911carreraRSR,

Do you have a photo of Rohrl in LM X 911 at 1981 Piancavallo or Manx Rallies ? (if so, please post).

I believe I remember seeing a photo of Rohrl at a british rally in 1981 in a white porsche (RS 3.0 look). But I did not save it . And I do not remember seeing a licence plaque

------------------------------------------
911carreraRSR:
"The Porsche with plate "LM-X 911" (I don't know if this car was the same that Altenheimer drove 1974-1976) was driven by W. Rohrl at 1981 Piancavallo & Manx Rallies. The Porsche was white with Blue collor with main sponsor DODUCO."
-------------------------------------------

If you have a photo of Altenheimer at 1979 Zlatni , I would be interested in seeing that also.

Do you know for FACT that Altenheimer had 2 porsche's ? As another clue that makes me feel the black car & the yellow car are probably the same chassis. Is that in RobertS "1976" (you made a typo) Zlatni photo. See the whip antenna with large base on rear of roof ?

On Black car (LM X 911) at 1976 Rallye de Monte Carlo . The EXACT same antenna is on the car - in the exact same spot !

Hi Friends,
Please find attached two photos of Altenheimer's Porsche from 1979 Zlatni Piassatzi Rally.

The first seven editions of the Vauxhall Astra Stages took place in the factory car parks & around the access roads of the Vauxhall Ellesmere Port works. These events had to take place when the factory was closed, and as far as I can remember were held on the last Monday in August, a national holiday in Engalnd & Wales. On that basis the date of the 1980 event would be 25th August.

This is an odd request of sort. I'm reading (for the 9th time) Possum Bourne's autobiography and early in it he talks about being at the forming of the 555 Subaru World Rally Team with Vatanen, McRae and B.A.T officials. He goes on to speak about testing cars with many different colour schemes (cream, yellow and blue) to test which ones looked best in the forest.

Was there any pictorial record of these colour schemes?

I have dreams about the route, ss., stage-times :)
But anything else -entry-list, full results - is very interesting for me, I lost all documents of '73 YU-rally, I have two rolls of b&w negatives only from this rallye.

And I am very happy with your 'offer', I searched for a cooperative guy from Serbia for a long time ;)

Maybe you can help with these too >

In future we will be in contact. I'll try to make a contact with old Serbian photographers.

-Most people said that was the hardest rally in Europe, because of very bad roads and traffic mess.
-Simo Lampinen was reported, but he didn’t start.
-First part 1268 km with 6 SS, pointed for Yugoslavian Championship.
-Yugoslavian car Zastava 101, was not pointed for European Championship, because they have not yet been homologated.
-72 crews on start, in organization of Belgrades club „Akademac“.[/ (not prepared), from rent-a-car. The car has only rool-cage and two additional lights.
-Pinto was in hurry to compensate the difference of 626 points, because of the delay for Donatela Tominz. Never the less, on break-neck cop gravel of mountain Kopaonik (SS12 Brzece), engine of Fiat didn’t make it.

Sory for my bad English.

Hello RobertS!

7th YU Rally (Yugoslavia) 1973.

-Most people said that was the hardest rally in Europe, because of very bad roads and traffic mess.
-Simo Lampinen was reported, but he didn't start.
-First part 1268 km with 6 SS, pointed for Yugoslavian Championship.
-Yugoslavian car Zastava 101, was not pointed for European Championship, because they have not yet been homologated.
-72 crews on start, in organization of Belgrades club "Akademac".
-First etape from Porec to Rijeka was on gravel road. First SS rise, was on mountain Ucka.
-Whole route of rally was traced with most difficulties gravel road. Specialy was difficult, routh from Bosnia without SS: Karlovac (Croatia)- Bosanska Krupa- Sanski Most- Banja Luka. On this phase, retirement 20 crews.
-Also Pinto destroyed suspension on his Fiat. In 7th etape, he was late 14 minutes, because of repairing of his car. First part of rally, he finished on 11th place.
-On that night, retired 28 crews. On 2nd SS Tara, was starting only 44 crews. On that SS Jovica Palikovic (YUG) also destroyed suspension on his Renault 12 Gordini. He was driving with punctured tire on "cube" road. Till then he has four punctured tires!
-The firs part of rally in Belgrade, finished 34 crews.
-Favorites who retirements was: Ilia Tchoubrikov (BG) Renault Alpine 110 1600, Peter Homel (DDR) Wartburg 353 and Franz Gale (DDR) Trabant 601.
-On second part of rally, started 16 crews, only two from Yugoslavia (Serbia). Petar Kolic was driving 1251 km mostly on third gear due to gear-box failure. Ivan Matosevic finished with borrowed money for gas. His VW Beatle was from regular production (not prepared) car, from rent-a-car office. The car has only rool-cage and two additional lights.
-Pinto was in hurry to compensate the difference of 626 points, because of the delay for Donatela Tominz. Never the less, on break-neck cop gravel of mountain Kopaonik (SS12 Brzece), engine of Fiat didn't make it.

Welsh Rally 1974, 1975

The entry list for the Welsh Rallies of 1974 and 1975 can be found in the excellent new book "The Welsh Rally" by Mark Griffin and Martin Leonard. The 74 list is numbered down to 240 and the 75 list to 214 so I am not about to retype it. I'll email you a scan of the relevant pages tomorrow.

Manx Rally 1987, 1993

I should have those as TCS provided the results service but won't have time to dig them out until the weekend.

I asked from Saku and he told that it's not a WRC. He have only driven one homemade escort WRC in his life and it was somewhere in Germany.
