First Donegal Rally was 1972. Apart from 2001 it has run every year since.
There is a great book, "The Donegal Experience" by Ivan Fuery. Great pictures and top tens (except 1972 & 1973).
I'll try to get Ivan to post here with how to get a copy.
Fred
Thank you Mr Gallagher for pointing that book. I followed your instruction and bought a copy. In fact it's a great one. The only weakness is that "except". It's pity the Author didn't managed to collect top 10s of 1972 and 1973. Are you able to let me know missing classifications?

Going out now and will be at a Cross Country Rally in Russia all next week. But happy to look at your lists. I will have the top tens somewhere.

I'm afraid I'm responsible for the birth date given by Tjeerd for Ari Vatanen's co-driver Peter Bryant (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=profile&driverid=5574).
The Englishman called Peter Bryant who was born on 03 April 1937 died yesterday (31 March 2009) but on TNF I have been told that he wasn't the rally man.
@kabouter: Please delete the wrong date & accept my apologies.

The Englishman called Peter Bryant who was born on 03 April 1937 died yesterday (31 March 2009) but on TNF I have been told that he wasn't the rally man.
@kabouter: Please delete the wrong date & accept my apologies.
The gentleman who died was a racing car designer, particularly eminent in the Can-Am series. definitely not Ari's co-driver.

Most on TNF are so precious and obsessed about roundy roundy stuff that it would not even be known to a lot of them that there was a better known person of the same name in rallying.

One more question Jirka: in 60's and 70's there was a Czechoslovak rally driver called Dolejs (f.e. 10th in Vltava 65 and 71, 5th in Taurus 75). What was his christian name: Vladimir or Antonin? 10th in Zlatni Piassetzi 77 was CS crew: Frantisek Markvart/Zbynek Kozisek or Antonin Mrkvart/Jiri Kozisek? (I found those two different names).

This name doen't look right - should it be Marek Gierowski (PL)?

I don't know who was driver of this Porsche.
I'm sure that Porsche was not driven by R. Altenheimer, - please see the car it is Gr.3.
Altenheimer always drove Gr.4 Porsches.

Anybody any idea who was the 1st driver to rally a mark2 escort and the first to win a rally in a Mark 2 Escort Please
IIRC the first outing of a Mark 2 Escort -in WRC @ least- was in the '75 Thousand Lakes, with Timo Mákinen & Henry Liddon finishing 3rd o/a, while the first victory -in WRC as well- should be that of the same pairing in the '75 Lombard RAC Rally.

Altenheimer - "always ran grp. 4 " ??
Not Correct.
Here's a for instance from 1975 :
Sachs-Rally-Baltic 1975
There were 119 cars at start 31 cars retired.
The total distance of the rally was 1650km.
The weather was good and no accidents.
General classification:
1. Walter Smolej/Willi Peter Pitz - Opel Ascona Gr. 2
2. Reiner Altenheimer/Hanno Menne Porsche Carrere RS Gr. 3
3. Andrezej Jaroszewicz/Ryszard Zyskowski (Poland) Fiat Abarth 124 Gr. 4
4. Holger Bohne/Franz Moormann - Opel Ascona Gr. 2
5. Achim Warmbold/John Davenport - Renault Alpine Gr. 4
6. Roger Ericson/Bruno Berglund (Sweden) Volvo 142 Gr. 2
7. Hans-J. P. Herrmann/Konrad Schmidt Opel Ascona 19 Gr. 2
8. Jan Glad/Per Nedergaard (Denmark) Opel Ascona 19 Gr. 2
9. Rolf Petersen/Hans-Jürgen Wachholz Porsche 911 SC Gr. 3
10. Jörgen Hansen/Keld Christiansen (denmark) Opel Ascona 16 Gr
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Altenheimer won the 1975 DE Rallyemeister title in a 2.7L car (1973 RS body looking car - Black / LM X 911) .
He ran group 3 this year (1975).
In 1976 at Monte Carlo (car #48/ finished 59th) . He ran this same black car , most likely in group 3.
Later in the year (the only other pics I have seen of him in 1976 , are from june at the Rally of Bulgaria / "Rally Zlatni Piassatzi") , his car by then was a Yellow Porsche G body RS 3.0 flair "look" (we do not know what it was under the skin).
It is VERY possible that the Yellow car is the Black car with updated bodywork (and possibly mechanical's also ?). We do not know.
A clue - look at RobertS's Photo from 1976 Zlatni . There is a engine displacement badge on the grill . Not only does it look like 2.7 to me . I believe porsche only made grill engine displacement badges up to 2.7 liter.
I know RS 3.0's , do not come with a engine displacement grill badge.
So the question is , is this another chassis , or the same 1975 (and earlier) season chassis ?
I'm guessing it is the Black car underneeth . The only strange thing is the Licence number change ( Black car - LM X 911 , Yellow - LM M 911) ?
----------------------
As far as the 1980 Tour d"europe # 3 car pic. It could very well be Altenheimer , just as likely as anyone else (and by recieving a #3 , we know it is someone well rated . Like a past winner - say like altenheimer.

Altenheimer has got TWO different PORSCHEs.
You know that in Germany it is impossible to change license-plates on a car that doesn’t change the owner.
Altenheimer drove in the "Rally Zlatni Piassatzi" (Rally of Bulgaria) following cars:
1974 year - black/yellow with plate "LM-X 911"
1975 year - black/yellow with plate "LM-X 911"
1976 year - yellow with plate "LM-M 911"
1977 year - yellow with plate "LM-M 911"
1978 year - yellow with plate "LM-M 911"

The Porsche with plate "LM-X 911" (I don't know if this car was the same that Altenheimer drove 1974-1976) was driven by W. Rohrl at 1981 Piancavallo & Manx Rallies. The Porsche was white with Blue collor with main sponsor DODUCO.

........ look at RobertS's Photo from 1977 Zlatni . There is a engine displacement badge on the grill . Not only does it look like 2.7 to me . I believe porsche only made grill engine displacement badges up to 2.7 liter.
Robert, can you make a close shoot on te engine displacement badge?
911carreraRSR,
Do you have a photo of Rohrl in LM X 911 at 1981 Piancavallo or Manx Rallies ? (if so, please post).
I believe I remember seeing a photo of Rohrl at a british rally in 1981 in a white porsche (RS 3.0 look). But I did not save it . And I do not remember seeing a licence plaque

If you have a photo of Altenheimer at 1979 Zlatni , I would be interested in seeing that also.
Do you know for FACT that Altenheimer had 2 porsche's ? As another clue that makes me feel the black car & the yellow car are probably the same chassis. Is that in RobertS "1976" (you made a typo) Zlatni photo. See the whip antenna with large base on rear of roof ?
On Black car (LM X 911) at 1976 Rallye de Monte Carlo . The EXACT same antenna is on the car - in the exact same spot !

Altenheimer - "always ran grp. 4 " ??
Not Correct.
Altenheimer won the 1975 DE Rallyemeister title in a 2.7L car (1973 RS body looking car - Black / LM X 911) .
He ran group 3 this year (1975).
....
---------------------
As far as the 1980 Tour d"europe # 3 car pic. It could very well be Altenheimer , just as likely as anyone else (and by recieving a #3 , we know it is someone well rated . Like a past winner - say like altenheimer.
Friends,
When I say "Altenheimer - "always ran group 4" I mean the Porsches from G-model series, like the photo from 1980 Tour d"europe - car # 3
Sorry for my omission. (Porsche Carrera RS, rally version with 2.7 l engine was homologated in the group 3, of course)

The last two may be late changes of co-driver. Unfortunately I don't know either of them. I know Nick Ward who started No52 but he has no records and would probably not remember who started No50. Gittins would be John Gittins.
If anyone has the registration numbers of any of these, please let me know.

It was subtitled the "1000 miles Trial" so I guess approximately 1,600 kms.

After a long enforced break I've started adding information to RallyBase again. Today I added the top 10s for both the Rallye du Valais (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=rally&rallytype=Valais) and Semperit Rallye (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=rally&rallytype=Waldvi) for the period 1993-1996 to the ERC results.
According to World Rallying Juha Kankkunen took part in the 1996 Rallye du Valais. Did he compete in a Celica GT-Four together with Nicky Grist? And what happened to him in the rally?
For the Rallye du Valais I am missing some first names:
In 1993, 1994 and 1996: Michellod, codriver of Jean-Laurent Girolamo
1993 (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=result&rallyid=1751):
9th Patrick? Müller / ? Lacroix (Subaru Legacy)
10th ? Martenet / ? Paradiso (Subaru Legacy)
1994 (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=result&rallyid=1699):
10th ? Decosterd / ? Zurlinden (Mazda 323 GTR)
1995 (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=result&rallyid=1646):
9th Francesco? Mari / Missbauer (Ford Sierra RS Cosworth)
1996 (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=result&rallyid=1426):
8th Jean-Philippe Patthey / ? Beuchat (Lancia Delta HF Integrale)
9th Patrick? Müller / ? Turin (Subaru Impreza WRX)
For the 1997 Semperit Rallye (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=result&rallyid=1369) I only have the 'European' classification, excluding diesel cars and non-homologated cars. Does anyone have the full or national result for this rally so I can complete the result?
If anyone should have full results or route information for the rallies mentioned above and is willing to share, I'm always interested to add more detailed information to the database :D

In the above posts all links that end in "):" are not working. Remove "):" from the end of the link and you reach the correct result...
Continuing with Swiss ERC rallies in the late 1990s, I've added the European editions of the Critérium Jurassien to the database (1997-1999).
Can anyone help me fill the gaps in the top 10 of the 1997 edition (http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=result&rallyid=1335):
4th Jean-Philippe Patthey / ? Defago (Lancia Delta HF Integrale)
5th José de la Cruz / Jean-Louis? Tucci (Ford Escort RS Cosworth)
6th ? Terrettaz / Nadine Blanchard (Renault Clio Williams)
9th Claude Troillet / M? Erbeia (Opel Astra GSI)
10th Ivan Cominelli / Luca? Maspoli (Renault Clio Williams)

... Is it possible that 6th in Hessen was Reihanr Heinbach? He was driving mainly or maybe even exclusively Escorts (in 1977, too) and that block in 6th drove a Kadett.
Regards Janusz
I don't know if it's Reinhard Hainbach in 6th or if there's another Hainbach. He's not mentioned in the report in the book, but that's mostly focused on the Dutch participants
Hello janusz,
long time I've not been in this forum. Your question is from February. But I hope my answer is still interesting you.
As Tjeerd had assumed there had been another Hainbach. It's Reinhard's brother Peter-Max Hainbach, who had a private Opel in Hessen 1977. On Hunsrück Opel even gave him a works car, because works-driver Walter Smolej had a broken ankle. In order to gain championship-points Smolej had been placed on Peter-Max' codriver seat. But they retired. He really was talented, but did not do many rallies.

Hello, my name is Philippe Olczyk and I m the author of the futur Ford RS200 book, during my research, I have contacted Malcolm Wilson and have send him one of my previous book. He like it and after, I realise that it will be nice to do a book from RS200 to Focus WRC. Malcolm did like the idea as he was the first one to win with a RS200. After a few months of discussion. I receive in exclusivity, the complet database of the Focus WRC with chassis number, rally results, registration plate etc...to be include in the book
I m searching now the photos in 300 DPI to illustrate in their first liveries thses cars inside the book.
Of course, I will be please to ad any works information concerning also the Sierra and Escort.
REWARD for HELP of course.

Today I started adding to RallyBase the birthdates that Rewind has posted on this forum last year.
For 1973 Spanish Champion Jorge Bäbler he could only find that Bäbler died in August 1990. jrally has found an article in Spanish magazine 'Auto Hebdo Sport' which says Bäbler was killed in a traffic accident "in the first days of August" and found a mention that it happened just before his birthday (9 August). Can anyone confirm that the accident happened on 8 August 1990? Or knows the day if it was earlier?
