It took me forever to find a picture of this, but after much searching, I 've finally found a decent photo of Jody Scheckter's McLaren M23 with the number zero on.

Yay me.

I remember Schumi used it, and currently Heikki scarcely visible.

I have a bookmark to chicaneF1.com with the full list. It isn't that much longer. Apparently that site is down (permanently?) so I can't find it now. If the site is still alive, it's fairly easy to search by car number and get the answer.

Within F1, it's just Scheckter (two races) and Hill (two seasons). And the largest number to have been used is 208 (put your anorak on if you know who) ;)

why did scheckter use 0 in the 2 North America races in 73? In the other races he took part that season he was #30 I think.

Yes - and the number 208 chosen because, I believe, the car was sponsored by Radio Luxembourg - whose frequency was 208 MW

Actually she wasnt sponsored by Radio Luxembourg that day, but it was her usual racing number at that time.

The #208 was used also on the 'Lucky Luxembourg' Lola T330 F5000 car she raced, and would have appeared in the Race of Champions (annual non championship F1 race which combined F5000 and F1 in later years at Brands Hatch)

Actually Tom Belso also drove with the #208 when he drove the Lola F5000 prior to Lombardi. Both of these are Lombardi

Both pictures are 1974 at Brands Hatch... the Yellow Lola F5000 at the Race of Champions and the white Brabham at the British GP.

Vasek Polak, the Californian Porsche entrant traditionally used 0 on his racing cars. Scheckter appeared at Mosport in June 73 in Polak's 917-10 Can-Am car. displaying some spectacular driving. My guess is that on returning in Sept in the Canadian Grand Prix, he chose to use the same number. The entry was a third car for Yardley Team McLaren, there is no mention of sponsorship from V. Polak.
