Like the title to this thread says, how long will it be till the young talented rider is signed up by Honda HRC and may take over from Nicky Hayden, I think Nicky`s days are numbered i`m afraid to say cause I personally like him but Honda put all there eggs in one basket when they built bike for slightl Pedrosa poor Nicky, hop ehe stays in MOTO GP it needs characters like him.

As fir Dovizioso i think i`m right in saying that in his motorbike racing career he has always been a Honda rides this bodes well for him what do you think guys ????

2009 on a Repsol Honda, no question about that.. Can't believe Honda will let Nicky do another season, Nicky has only had 2 out of 6 seasons that were good (2005 and 2006)

The rumour has been getting stronger as the season goes on...

Honda have praised Dovi for his loyality before so I'm guessing it won't be long now..

Then we'll see some "action"...

Dovi has been my "Rookie of the Year" pick from race 1!! Been following him his 125 days...Great rider with lots of talent ;) :p :

I think he is now riding for Honda HRC, the rest of it I prefer him wears color of J1r Scot to Repsol.

It does sound like HRC are going to give Gresini 08 spec bikes fairly soon ahead of Dovi

I struggle to understand HRC's mentality sometimes. They have only one rider aside from Pedrosa who's performing this year, namely Dovi but they give the bikes to someone else.

Hardly a great way to encourage Dovi to sign for the factory team (although it's the most likely option for him for '09)

...Great rider with lots of talent ;) :p :

Is that really why he's your rookie pick? ;) :p :

Certainly deserves a factory ride and I think that Nicky could struggle getting a ride if he's not careful. Laguna will have helped but he has spent a long time looking up to Pedrosa, and not many people can say that :D

The reason as I understand it that Gresini (and I think only Nakano) will get the new RCV over Dovi is because JiR Scot is a mess at the moment. Maybe Gresini being on Bridgestones and Nakano being Japanese also have something to do with it.

JiR and Scot will not continue together for 2009. JiR has the deal with Honda for a bike. Scot want to run their own team like they did in 250. Dovi has a contract with Scot for 2009.

So Scot wants an RCV for 2009 in order to let Dovi out of his contract.

This is good if finally they run their own team respectively. Scot to stick Dovi out with them while JiR will look for another rider. Both of them would be likely to run a Honda. We want more bike on the grid.

HRC will give another season for Pedrosa to show of force on a bridgestone, before deciding to give the equal seat to Dovi. If Hayden has his time expired at HRC, They will put Nakano in place of him. This is already an open secret they are keen in any circumstance to give him any recent development. In case they evaluate Pedrosa can't meet their hope then they will start looking at Dovi. He will remain to stay at Jir Scot. :)

HRC would be mad to give the factory team place to Nakano. Since leaving Kawasaki he's consistently under performed even on Bridgestone tyres. I used to be a big fan of his (I wear a Nakano rep Arai) but he doesn't deserve the HRC ride, Dovi does.

Dovi has ridden the wheels of his bike considering it's not the latest spec and has been handicapped with poor rubber at some meetings.

I am also a big fan of Shinya, but, this year I have been very dissapointed with his performance so far. I thought when he switched back the the B'stones he would be a regular top 5 finisher. I think Dovi deserves the spot, but, I feel that Shinya is not finished yet, and should stay, perhaps not with the factory team, but, at least continue to get more factory support. Dovi would be the best choice for Honda IMO. He is quick, loyal and just gets on with racing.

Andrea Dovizioso has strongly hinted that he will replace Nicky Hayden in the factory Repsol Honda team next year.

The Italian, who currently rides for the satellite JiR team and has impressed throughout his rookie season in MotoGP, has been repeatedly linked with the works team in recent weeks, and is expected to be announced as Dani Pedrosa's 2009 teammate in due course.

When asked by television station Italia1 if he had signed a Repsol Honda deal, Dovizioso replied: "No, not yet, but I hope I will. You can't say what you're not allowed to..."

Hayden has had an increasingly fractious relationship with Pedrosa, and Dovizioso admitted that he is expecting similar problems when he is paired with the Spaniard.

"Yes, I think they'll try that in every way," Dovizioso replied when asked if he thought Pedrosa and manager Alberto Puig would make his life 'difficult'.

"No-one knows Pedrosa, in my opinion. He doesn't want to be known, he wants to live MotoGP in a different way compared to the others. That's the way he is.

"I don't think anything will change, but we'll see. I'd like to get to know him..."

Dovizioso led a MotoGP race for the first time today at Indianapolis, when he burst through from seventh on the grid to head the field on the opening lap, before later falling back to finish fifth. Hayden and Pedrosa took second and eighth respectively on the factory Hondas.

I think Shinya was struggling from having a 3rd-rate bike and 2nd-rate tyres. He hasn't raced that well on the spring-valved 2008 bike but he's set some very quick times in practise, and I'm not convinced that his tyres are up to much compared to Rossi's and Stoner's. I mean, Troy Bayliss looked terrible on a satellite Honda and we know how damned quick he is.

As for Dovi, I think he'll do alright. He's been a proper Honda guy since his 250 days when he performed far better than his obsolete bike should have let him. I always got the impression that HRC never wanted Nicky Hayden in the first place, he was pushed on them for marketing reasons and they were shocked when he somehow ground out a World Championship.

I think the reason I mentioned back in July is still why Dovi has not signed with Repsol.

He is under contract with Scot for 2009. Scot want an RCV to let him out of it.

Dovizioso to switch to Repsol Honda for 2009

Friday, 26 September 2008

HRC have announced Andrea Dovizioso as their second factory team rider for next season.

Andrea Dovizioso has been unveiled as a Repsol Honda rider for the coming season in a special press conference at Motegi, cementing his move from the satellite JiR Team Scot outfit. The MotoGP rookie has impressed with his results onboard the satellite RC212V in 2008, and HRC have rewarded this and his long association with the company in the lower cylinder classes by giving the Italian a factory ride for his sophomore campaign.

`I´m really happy, because one of my dreams is coming true. I worked for seven years with Honda because I wanted to be here,´ said Dovizioso after the announcement.

`I want to get to work as soon as possible with the new bike and team, because right now the work in a satellite team is very limited –I can´t improve anything.´

The 22 year-old will replace outgoing Repsol Honda rider Nicky Hayden, who leaves the team for Ducati at the end of the year, and will accompany former 250cc rival Dani Pedrosa in the factory team garage. Both will be developing the bike for HRC, a first for Dovizioso.

`It will be different; I never developed any bike before. However, with my results this year I think that just having a better bike will help me to fight for the podium.´

The decision to promote Dovizioso was an easy one to make for HRC President Masumi Hamane, who paid tribute to the Italian star´s performances for the Japanese company over the years.

`His talent is unquestioned and we admire his attitude towards racing. His dedication to the task at hand has impressed everyone at HRC. Andrea came into the MotoGP championship this year with an open mind and his debut season has shown all of us that he possesses the character and qualities so necessary to succeed,´ declared Hamane.

`The MotoGP class is the most difficult of all classes for a rider but Andrea´s skill and determination to learn has been rewarded. His current fifth place in the championship speaks for itself. HRC will provide Andrea with the best possible technical support to help him reach his full potential and we look forward to enjoying a happy and successful relationship.
