I'm all in favour of the plans, but:

"The proposals will also see the biggest alteration to the Snetterton circuit in its 57-year history to meet FIA Grade 2 standards to welcome the World Touring Car Championship Champ Cars F2 and Le Mans Endurance Series sports cars and enable Norfolk to host world-class racing events."

Would Brands Hatch really give up the WTCC? Would we ever get Le Mans Series at Snetterton? Will Champ Cars return to the UK?

Snetterton is already a proven testing track for the likes of sportscar teams, would it actually be able to be a draw over the likes of Silverstone, Donington Park and Brands Hatch for these events?

Nice plans, but it's still going to be hosting predominantly national races.

i mentioned this on the A1GP forum as the British round had not been confirmed. The proposals have been years in planning and originally surfaced in 2005. http://www.etracksonline.co.uk/News/stories/news_id190.html - you will also find a map of the track after its been extended.

Regards

Richard.

Most circuits do predominately host National Events.

What I mean is, whilst Brands, Donington and silverstone actually get several international events each year, I wouldn't be surprised if Snetterton got none for all that they're planning.

I suppose it's easy enough for Dr Palmer to switch series between his circuits. It's good that there could be another option for the large pan-European series to come to the UK, rather than just visiting the big three.

[/I]Would Brands Hatch really give up the WTCC?

From one motorsort fan to another I ask you...

Would you want to see Brands Hatch give up the WTCC? I suspect the anwer may be in the negative. But what if Snetterton proves equally as good as Brands Hatch ever was? Would you not mind if the WTCC went there instead then?

National? By that do you mean BTCC? Because I think we are forgetting our own BTCC I reckon.

An upgrade to the pits will surely be good for the BTCC. Won't it?

Brands GP is rubbish for the WTCC. The Indy is much more suited to the short, sharp sprint races of touring cars.

saw a local resident had objected to the noise... well mate feck off you chose to live next to a racetrack buy a set of earmuffs and get a life!!!!!!

like the look of the plans for Snett hope they happen

I think they're living a pipe dream. Why would the likes of WTCC go to Snetterton - out in the middle of no where, lack of prestige and history - when you've got Donny and Silverstone.

And surely JP would prefer to keep WTCC at Brands rather than Snetterton?

I'm all in favour of the plans to re-develop Snetterton. It would be very good for the track to improve its facilities and try targeting international races.

People who buy a house next to a race track and then complain about the noise should have earmuffs superglued to their head for the rest of their lives.

Well since I live locally to Snetterton then of course I'd love it if the WTCC left Brands for Snetterton. I just can't see it happening.

You've got to love local residents. They move into a house not far from a race track that has been there years before they were, and then moan about the noise......That's like moving to Heathrow and being surprised there are planes taking off and landing every three minutes....

Got to say I think Snetterton track layout should stay the same as is. Its fast and it flows, and we get good drafting. Why get rid of the chicane at the end of the lap. How many incidents have I seen there over the years.

Oh don't change the track, just put in decent garages and spectator facilities. The tracks are fine, just make the day out easier for the fans and teams.

Like better toilets at Brands. Last time I went was in 2003 for the champ car race. To celebrate the raceback in 1978 the reinstalled the old toilets from the 70's. Well that's what I thought!!!

Croft-on-Tees residents feel the same about Croft so I know what you mean.

Yet their has been racing cars since August of 1964 when the first race was staged. And theirs been actual noise since the WWII when of course a Canadian squadron of bomber pilots used the circuit as a base. So I don't see how residents can complain. "Who was here first?" is the mantra.

I think most of the circuits that are on the BTCC calendar are, even in some small way, are out in the middle of nowhere. Except it seems for Silverstone and Donny. I think that is just the way things are here.

I always found that section a bit mickey mouse. Just as you come of Coram you immediately put the anchors on for that chicane. But hey, it's the best viewing spot, guaranteed to get loads of bumping and banging there.

But Brands, Silverstone and Donny has history and prestige - all 3 have held a GP and top class motorsport like WSB and sportscar racing.

I like the fact that the report suggests that the revised Snetterton could play host to a series that doesn't exist anymore (Champ Car) and one that hasn't even started (F2).

Also bringing the circuit up to a certain standard doesn't mean it will host the events, just that it could. It makes sense to carry out the work so as to give Palmer and MSV another alternative - he can't try and bring international racing to the circuit and to the area if the track isn't up the required standards.

Exactly. It's like airports saying they can handle the Airbus A380 — it doesn't mean they will.

Personally, I rekon he should get rid of that Market and get back the old track!

Now, what a track that would make!

Snetterton: Cold, windy and bleak. And thats in mid-June! ;)

Always a great place to race - but a million miles from anywhere.

I like the new layout and it would make more overtaking chances not that the BTCC needs it. At least it's not gonna be a boring Tilke design with run off areas the size of a football pitch.
You wouldn't loss any speed on the straight, if anything they would get higher speeds with the new shape.

Overall a thumbs up from me. You never know I would even be prepared to travel there from the south west.

I would hate if this redevelopment of the track does indeed eradicate the chicane before the pit straight, as the original press releases state.
