I think it's time to ditch the trusty seven years old 19" Samtron for some shiny new 22" or 24" flat thingy. :)

A guy in my office has a pair of 24" HP w2408h's in his desk, that particular monitor won a test in a Finnish magasine this year, but it's not exactly cheap and and the shiny finish makes me a bit cautious.

What else is out there?

I'm mainly going to use it for intraweb and gaming so it would be nice if it's fast enough, or something like that.

Vaikka osaltamme onkin saatettu syyllistyä laiminlyönteihin, voidaan taholtamme kuitenkin todeta, että tupareissa lattialle pudonnut kämppäkaverin monitori asettaa tahomme tukalaan tilanteeseen ajateltaessa vastuunalaisia kontradiktioita.

Viewsonic is my personal favourite brand and I also like Samsung as well although apparently the Pebble range is not that great. Philips, LG, Dell and NEC are good as well. Some people like Benq monitors but I find they look really cheap and crappy :p HP is also good but most of the big stuff is for the business market and is prohibitively expensive as you've found out :)

If you can try to check out the model you're buying in a store. Check how bad the backlight bleed is. Backlight bleed will happen on LCD's but if it's really bad it makes it hard to make out things on a dark screen like in an FPS where you're hiding in a corner waiting to batter someone to death with a melee weapon  See below for a example of bad backlight bleed.

Anything with a response 8ms or better will be fast enough for playing games on.
