This is a brilliant result for Loix as well, great start to the championship and as long as Ogier doesn't do too many rounds is a perfect result for him

I think Ogier was resonably fast but most important he was smart and consistent. IRC and Monte has really impressed me these three days and I look forward to see an "answer" from the WRC to this.

Ogier, Hänninen and Meeke are the three guys we should look at if you ask me. Too bad they aren't all staying in the same championship just battling the whole year :) It's nice to see three young guys doing a champ they can win in a car they can win in. The future is here - soon - and I'm starting to look forward to it again :)

Great rally, better than any WRC in the last few years!!!!

Great coverage,great competition,lots of thrills!!!!!!

And who watched the coverage will agree that Kopecky on Col de Turini was spectacular!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

Congratulations to Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia for their deserved victory!

But for me the most impressive was Kopecky,7/14 stages without working power steering and finished 4th...........

And he was by far the most spectacular :D

The sad thing is that next year it is back in the WRC - what format will it be? They surely can't go back to the usual WRC format, or can they?
How interesting has this event been? The only 'downer' would be the lack of a fight on the final night - but that's Rallying, and the Monte.

bluuford
23rd January 2009, 23:47
Yeah great coverage! So, I hope that Eurosport will be global distributor for WRC as well. Anyway, I have never liked Monte rally and this time was no different, nothing really exciting. Nearly nothing happened after stage 1 in leg 3. Gaps were huge like usual or even bigger than usual (thanks to the weather). Gaps from 5 place were nearly two times bigger compared to last year. So, at the end it was just a teamwork and fast driving for Sarrazin to keep Jan behind.

dimviii
23rd January 2009, 23:52
Congrats to Ogier also from me.Well done with clever driving avoiding risks.
Impressed from fabias speed out of the box.Something not easy for teams even with unlimited budget.
Impressed also from Sarrazins speed. All the ss he won(5?) were with BIG difference from second fastest crew.
Good pace also from Loix, isn t easy afer too many years to be competitive with young guns(see Auriol)
About abarth now,as i am remember must be the only time in rallying to see them not competetive. They have to try much harder, cause if this year again with no results(even with the newcomer fabia) you never know what they are going to decide the marketing department(specially in crunch credit times...)
finally wrc seems to be completely amateurs in organization terms.
Must try much more harder than abarth :p :

During these three days of Monte I´ve remembered why I love rallies!

Fantastic conditions and fantastic stages avoiding the weekend and coming back to the night...

And of course, great drivers and great cars. Pug is still the best car but it´s been impressive to watch Skoda´s performaces and for sure Fiat will be very competitive with little luck. And probably new brands will join...

There is so much for the FIA and ISC to learn!

24th January 2009, 00:07
how many budding rallydrivers are about to change thier name to seb!!!

congrads, very mature drive, shows what a talent he is, but skoda will come away from this with huge confidence, they were awesome, bring on round 2, coverage was fantastic, and i love the monte, as its so unpredicatable :)

Tom206wrc
24th January 2009, 00:08
I don't think the Pug was really the best, I'd say it's equal with the Fabia, all what really played in Monte was choice of tires at the best moment... :mark:

But for the future, as Peugeot fan, I'll fear the Skoda... ;)

Anyway, I have never liked Monte rally and this time was no different, nothing really exciting. Nearly nothing happened after stage 1 in leg 3. Gaps were huge like usual or even bigger than usual (thanks to the weather).

So, not very diferent from all the other WRC rallyes. But until stage 1 from leg 3.... and even after that we saw Gardemeister retiring... it was only the man who could had attacked Ogier lead during the night.

This rally was fantastic and shown the the WRC rules are killing the sport and IRC rules are more suitable to rallying. A fantastic format of legs, and the most important a fantastic TV coverage that show to all of us how weak is tv coverage on WRC.

The images from the rally were spectacular, because rallying is driving sideways, is driving os trick conditions, on umpredictabe conditions, and Monte had all this.

I loved it!

OldF
24th January 2009, 01:28
This remained me from some rallies from the 80’s. There could be been several minutes between the competitors but nothing was solved before the finish.

It was nice to watch online if Seb Ogier made it. And he did it. Also for the service crew I think it was more exiting for them watching it live than from some computer with only split times.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OGIER FOR A GOOD DRIVE.

Of course I’ve would be pleased to see A Finn winning this first S2000 Monte but he who’s done the most consistent drive from the start to the finish deserve to win.

Very lucky team who signs this man up. Mmm... Chris and Toni. Hopefuly the rumours about Petter Solberg and Proton come to fruition also and we'd have an xtrememly competitive and healthy championship. Though that said, it already is!

Bravo to all the drivers, co-drivers, service crews, teams, officials, organisers, managers and everyone at Eurosport. You guys deserve mega "kudos". You can all take a bow, excellent job this week and it has kept our sport alive for 2009!

I would like to add my congratulations to Seb Ogier for a very mature drive and to all the other crews that fought hard on this most challenging rally.
Congratulations also to the ACM and IRC for giving us back a more traditional
Monte (helped by the bad weather!), Eurosport for its excellent coverage (including informative commentary by Martin and the multi-lingual Alessandro?) and lastly to all of you on the Forum (especially those who provided valuable links!) for your great company! As other have said, this rally has been a welcome change to what we have had in the last few seasons of WRC.
Finally, someone (manufacturer) please give Toni a drive or at least enough support to Astra so they can do the entire IRC with him.

Yes!

Without Jan's problems and Juho's crash it could have been Skoda celebrating 1-2 and not Peugeot :)

But I am happy. Better to have a fast car and small problems than a slow one and a poor result.

The coverage of the last stages of the Monte were excellent, and the guy commentating even shut up for the viewer to get a feel of those classic roads in the dark! Pity about our man Chris, but i think he can be pleased with the pace he showed.WRC/Dave/whoeve, that`s what rally coverage should be like!!! I know it was the Monte and they pushed the boat out a bit but, it was really great coverage! Those Skoda`s were quick out of the box too!

He gave an interview before rally where he said something like "with these s2000 there isnt so much difference between older model and new, so we should have good chance..." so i think it was a year old car.

Could be possible, if the havent done enough testing to feel comfortable in the car. Isn't that what Basso was complaining, not feeling good inside it?

Maybe they need some more experienced, all surface driver to develop the car ;)

Here is a link to a web site. The homologation regulations are quite old and don’t know how much they have been updated after that. I have always been wondering why the homologation regulations can’t be found on FIAs web site. Are they so secret material?

Give the man a Skoda !

I´m not sure, if there´s yet built enough Skodas for a "crashman" like Atko ....just kidding :) :) Btw. Duval is still without a stable seat too....these two would make a really nice Skoda team nr. 2. I´m suggesting a name for it: "Skoda win or crash team" :) :) :)

I'm back fom Monte Carlo. Realy great rally! We saw a lot of sideways action, great atmosphere (especialy the night on Turini!).

We were also lucky to see many crisis. On SS3 we saw Garde's small but dangerous off and Basso's spin. On SS4 we saw Sarrazin's off and our friend - expert on bringing back stucked cars was leading the rescue operation :) Ogier was very lucky there, he could easily be off there as well (there was also police car off before the start). On SS7 we saw Voilloz braking his wheel (that video from Eurosport was caught by our friend, whose videos You can see on http://www.autosport.cz :) ). Some cars hit the barriers on Col de Turini (for example Maurin) and Basso had a spin there.

A.F.F.: As far as I know guys from Škoda told Juho to push hard. They decided to risk as victory would worth it. I don't think they are that much dissapointed.

Anyway, big thanks to Juho and Jan to bring back euphory to Czech fans!

Just watched the Eurosport coverage of the rally this evening. I must say that I am very impressed. Its been the best Monte for a long time, not tainted with the stupid enforcements made by the FIA WRC crew. The live stages were excellent too. I also really like Martin Haven's "warts and all" approach to the commentary and he doesn't treat the fans like babies. Last year's WRC commentator (Paul King?) was going on as if we hadn't a blues clue what rallying was about. Given, though, a wider audience was what they were keeping in mind.

The series itself was very entertaining. A good mix of manufacturers and good signs for the future of S2000 if it keeps up like this. Very happy for Ogier but I think Sarrazin and Hanninen were the quickest drivers when things were going their way. Good show from Kopecky despite his steering problems and Basso put in some good times too. Olivier Burri was off the pace completely. I don't know much about him at all so I won't make any assumptions yet.

For the next rounds I expect Vouillez and Hanninen to be mixing it with the top crews. Would also be hoping Kris Meeke can give it his all and show his raw speed, and not repeat his accident of Monte. Gardemeister and Rossetti may have something to show as well. I wait in anticipation.

I'm just really excited that a world rally series has finally taken off with such success without the FIA intruding and making a hames of it. Please understand that, I'm a bit fired up :bounce:

So that is the place Loix pick up his puncture. Chris was lucky to escape, but i was told that he rolled the car five times, and on this video that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyhow, Kronos mechanics say that car is lossed, alltough it doesnt seem to be so heavily damaged.

I have seen the car first hand after the crash and don't really agree that it is a write off - lots of cosmetic damage but the roll cage and chassis seemed ok.

In other words poo poo to your actual experience and views. I'll believe what some guy on a forum who's not seen the car says :mark:

It looks like if anything it got damaged a lot worse as a result of being put back onto four wheels!

And I just happen to do a LOT of work with the company that insured the car, and as of yet no claim has been put through! Apology accepted.

Hello there, i was only quoting what Kronos mechanics told me. When i had a look at pictures of the car it seemed not so heavily damaged to me either. Are you sure the car was insured, because sometimes they don't insure. I know for sure that the one Loix destroyed in Condrozrally last year wasn't insured, that's why i am asking. Anyhow Meeke will use BF Goodrich car for Brazil. ;)

A little video of our fantastic Monte Carlo experience.
I really hope the Rally will be part of the IRC next year.
