why s2000 car quicker than old group n car ?
as fia rules s2000 and groud n both defined as N4 group and how can s2000 quicker than subaru or mit cars?

sorry guys i have a question.

Well, there are several reasons, including;
1/ in the IRC, most of the top drivers are driving S2000 cars
2/ in the IRC, the manufacturer/semi-factory teams are all using S2000
3/ particularly on tarmac rallies, a specially-built S2000 car will perform better than a modified production car due to optimal suspension design

thank you first,and I love hokkaido :) .

1.Group N is more cheaper for team operation, why they want expensive s2000(no-factory teams)?
2.suspension for rally car i think it's not a big deal.any team can modify they want, don't they?
3.Group N has more hp/nm(maybe) and more weight, maybe mix these two.

1. Yes, for a private team GpN is still cheaper to buy or build, but I think this will change. Used S2000 will become available and still be competitive if updated, while older GpN cars will not be competitive with Evo X or N14 WRX
and cannot be updated

2. There are more freedom with S2000 suspension, whereas GpN is almost standard except spring and damper

3. Yes, and FIA may increase the minimum weight of S2000 to keep their performance closer to GpN. However, S2000 will always have better balance (incl. weight % on front & rear axles) than GpN.

Rally Hokkaido
21st January 2009, 09:28
Too bad about Didier. I hope he can re-start.
I think he might be regretting his tactics for this rally.

“I think the first stage of the rally will be quite decisive for me,” concluded Auriol. “I’m going to be pushing quite hard on that one, just to see where we are compared to everyone else."

No, no outside assistance is permitted, They have about 4.5 hours to drive the 220km liaison, so I think the crew would try to fix the problem while talking to the engineers by mobile telephone and hope then to make up any lost time on the liaison.

The show this afternoon is live footage of SS3, should be able to watch it live online here: http://www.ircseries.com/html/Video.asp

Do they show live videos?
Almost none of the videos on that page works for me due to geolocation?
That is stupid... I have Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 which have been localized for over a year but cant watch it online later if I miss it

Auriol did say he was going to push hard!! Just to see if he is up to speed with the young guns in their S2000's. So I wasn't hoping he'd crash out or retire but hey, good to see him back.

Silly question.... there are no restart rules like in the WRC is there?

AFAIK it is up to each IRC rally whether they allow Superrally or not, but I think Superalliers are not allowed to score IRC points.

I think Meeke's time was much about his tyre choice, not that he didnt drive well! He did good job anyways.

the coverage was so great!! what a pleasure to watch, though on-boards were crappy. I have never seen so good footage before live, i dunno if they have shown it, but i didnt have eurosport before. I think its much to the fact that they can use so much helicopters in the mountains. And there will be more to come....woooah :P

I'm dissapointed about Abarths tyre choises, causing Garde loose so much and Basso has been little bit off pace, maybe also because of tyres.

I'm waiting to see some dry stages with everyone on same tyres to see the real potentials of all the cars, how they are compared to others. My feeling is now its Skoda-Peugeot-Abarth (much from the leader board :D )

Rubbish! There should be no lottery, they should all go out on slicks because the FIA mandates a single tyre and the drivers and spectators should be put in more danger than necessary because that's how it's done

Good night to all! seems that the season has kicked off in fashion and style!
Impresive pace by Juho, hope he can stay there (and the fabia hang on tight!).
Really is good to see Gardemester up there, but makes me eager to see PG on S2000 (suspect he'll have more pace).
Promising of season for Basso, Kopecky, Voullioz and Loix: Seems we'll have another great season of great battles.
On another subjet, wonderboy Ogier impressed me (by times, because i've not seen any video yet).
Still i'm hoping that someday i can see these cars live, on person....
Good luck to all of you forum members, may this season brings you the excitement denied by WRC.

I was hoping Abarth would go a little better, but to say I'm disapointted is a slight understatement. Rossetti crashing (has there been a reason why he crashed? Speed? Ice?), Alen getting a puncture and Gardemeister having transmission problems. Hoping these guys will have a better day 2.

Very encouraging for Skoda, although Kopecky did have a problem, having both cars in the top 6 on SS2 & 3 is great for a car on debut. Hopefully it encourages Proton, MG and Toyota to get it together :)

So other than the total drowning in Peugeots, this rally has been exciting for me so far, even without all the modern live video :)

Some quotes from Finns:

Alen:
-First SS went ok, but on the second i had a puncture. On the third i had STUDS which was a mistake.

Hänninen:
-First day of Monte was the most challenging of my whole career! On the mountain roads it is changing from snow to ice, to snow mush and wet. Its easy to make driving error in those conditions.
-Driving went well and car worked flawless. Biggest thanks goes to my experienced first car(?) team (Juha Miettinen and Pentti Kuukkala) who's job were incredible! i had 100 percent trust in my pace notes!

Gardemeister:
-Generator doesn't work at all. Car is stalling all the time, windows steam up and it doesn't go anywhere.
-On the third SS, which is 30 km long, fast road, which i know very well from the past, we were 35 secs behind coming to the middle of the stage, even though it is basically just straight road!

To be quite frank, this is the most excited I've been about a rally in a VERY long time. For a couple of years now we've had to be contempt with saying "Loeb will win" or sometimes we could say "Gronholm has a pretty good chance".

Although the top 10 here is covered by 4:30 minutes, this is the Monte and I still can't say who is likely to win after the first day. Everyone is in pretty similar machinery and the stages are actually challenging with lots of surface changes, tight twisty sections etc. Dam its exciting stuff :D

Sarrazin has now lost 4 and a half minutes??? according to ACM website

Dropped him down to 9th/ Hopefully it isn't mechanical and he just went off and got stuck on stage somewhere. He and Kopecky are approx 10 secs behind Wittmann, so points are still up for grabs

Tom206wrc
22nd January 2009, 09:31

Unlike yesterday - unfortunately no live broadcast of SS5 on the internet. Does anyone know why? Yesterday the broadcast was on eurosport1, today on eurosport2? Is it the reason?
