This is a historic occasion. I believe it will be the first time Indy cars have been on that track in 48 years. Talk about a long time between appearances. :eek:

Rumor has it that Buddy is in the #5 car for next week's test, not Sarah. Also it is suggested that the 2nd day of testing may feature a simulated sprint race to help build interest in the league and a potential race in Daytona. Will it happen? Who knows, but I sure hope it does. That would be cool.

FYI, This is the second test at Daytona, but your right, it had been since 1959 since an Indy car appeared on track.

Right now the plan is to have Buddy in the 15 for the whole season, and Sarah in thr 5 for the 12 ovals and another driver in for the road courses, although Sarah has spent her winter at Skip Barber and want to try it.

Are preseason tests open to the public? I just read that there was an IRL test earlier at Fontana for both road course and oval. I wish I knew about it as I would've gone to spectate.

I remember Robin Miller telling a story about watching NASCAR's first test at Indy in 1993. He was with Mario Andretti and they were watching these cars "lumbering down the front sretch", and he and Mario exchanged uncomfortable glances and couldn't get over how wrong all this seemed. I guess turnabout is fair play.

daytona is a fast track and i would enjoy seeing the irl race there
