Aava take his first stage win on SS7
i'm betting on him being world champion in 2 years, seems he could match (and pass) JML and Loeb next year...
Aava has been doing a good job
Yes great to see, specially as he has been trying to get to the top for so long. Hope he will be the new Markko.

Hold your horses mate!
He's good but not that quick! Seems to be on the same kind of pace as Matt Wilson most of the time.

Same here, i think he has good chances to be in top 5 in Jyskälä, if Citroen gives him a proper car..

He is most off the time quite a bit faster then Wilson, and i mean not only in this rally. He is doing fine job the last couple of rally's. ;)

I don't think so, but maybe if he gets good results there will be future for him with Citreon factory team. I said this since he is definitely quicker than Wilson and Rautenbach from my view. But by then (2012) things will begin to change, we don't know yet how it's going to be.
btw, that is a special stage he won, wilson won a special stage as well.

Nope, i betting hard on him, how many oouting does he have on a WRCar? and he's on that pace already? how many outings on a WRCar did JML got before setting top 3 times ?
I'm being optimistic, but he (along JML and Sordo) might bring interest to the top of the leaderboard in a year and a half or so.
And JML is out of the road often eversince....

movin' on...
Seems that Atcko is having a harder time on this impreza than Petter, but that road position for Petter for tomorrow might prove crucial for his result (i suspect a DNF).
What the hell those Citroen are made of?! well i hope that Dani's won't break, as for loeb i would not mind if the had another "encounter" with Rautenbach. =)
You can't defend Atkinson all the time.
It should be quite easy for the Ford guys to get in top 4 tomorrow, to catch Loeb and Sordo is i belive too difficult.

lol get real mate... 2 years ? As a privateer too ? No way
Just saw the Gigi accident... this is totally unluck, and it's so depressing to see that only Ford people get these stones in the middle of the road, or maybe the C4 are actually tanks, I dunno... "I can't believe it !" (as Gigi and Giovanni shout in the car too after the crash).

Right Loeb and Sordo are too far away but others as you said should be quite easy to pass.

Tomorrow will be long day as well day after tomorrow. I think that we have one of the longest and toughest Sunday experienced this year ! So, Loeb has to clean a road at least two days. During the first day Latvala will be second on the road and most probably third on the road on Sunday - that makes a lot of difference on Sunday. I think that second place is possible for Latvala and third is possible for Mikko. To take into account the tactical games we can expect Mikko to be on the second place and Latvala third by the end of rally :-) If Sordo is second on the road on Sunday then I cannot see him in top 3. 4th will be the best I guess.
but..
Tomorrow will be very rough day and we might see handful of surprises! I expect only leader to be on the same position as at the on of Day 1:-)

Good analysis, although I think Latvala will finish ahead of Mikko. The big but is the conditions

I think it feels good, off course it is hard to say after just one day but it seems like the car has no small gremlins everywhere like the old one. I just hope Petter could have this third place now. He really really deserve it, im sure that a place on the podium could pull up his confidence.
I want the old Petter back now, it has been a while!

Got back an hour ago! Interesting first day. Surprisingly not good for Ford team though...
I was at ss1 Shimatari1 and ss4 Shimatari2. Latvala was the most spectacular.... specially in the morning stage. And Aava in the afternoon stage was very fast and very spectacular. Unfortunately was the only one that I didnt take pictures of him...! grrr!
Too much dust and too many rocks. Too much dust made it difficult for the spectators. Too many rocks made it difficult for the drivers specially the Ford drivers.
It was great to see Peter produce good stage times and I will not be surprised if tomorrow wins a couple of them. He was good old Hollywood in the Super special. 2 secs faster than Seb. And then Aava came to get the stage win!!! Ultra fast as well.
It was very unfortunate to see All 3 official Fords go slow. Hirvo , Latvala, Al Quasimy. Also Atko had damage at his front right suspension.

Two days remaining for fighting. Seb will do the sweeping but I don't know how much flat out driving can be done on the bad stages from the Ford guys. We' ll see tomorrow. I certainly didn't expect the stages to be that bad. Maybe the organizers need to think seriously for next year going back to the traditional stages around Lamia area.
The first crews of PWRC were really good to watch and also Sandel with the amazing 207. Prokop in the morning was the fastest until the point we timed him. Aigner was very good and ofcours Ketomaa and Hanninen. But also I really liked Sousa. Very spectacular and fast driving. I don't know about his times but was really nice to watch him!
Tomorrow night the day 2 debrief! hehehe
900 photos in two days and counting....! If anyone has any preferred driver request send me a pm.
I think also it was the right choise to launch it now, but im not so confident that it will be a winner car.

At the end of one of the stages today, it sounded like Petter may have had a slightly soft brake pedal, but he wouldn't say anything....
They said they wouldn't bring it out till it was right, so doesn't that means it should be doing fastest times soon, and wins before the end of the year?
It looks like the development rate on this car should be alot faster than the old one.
Have they even started tarmac testing yet?
What do you guys think of the pace of the new Impreza? I think it's strange that people hav'nt discussed that on here that much... =)
Well it hasn't proven to be rally winning material, but I would wait until Finland to make any conclusions. The positive thing so far is that Petter hasn't cryed yet :D

Give some time to Subaru. It is not easy to come out with a completely new car to a rally like a Greece. The time loss for stage winner is not so bad at all.
SS1 0,8 s/km
SS2 0,49 s/km
SS3 0,62 s/km
The most important is that the car is consistent. Petter had realy interesting split times with old car. At the start of the stage he had superb splits and at the end the time was nightmare. now the time is getting better as the stage progresses.
Someone was waiting analysis about Subaru, Here are the result for afternoon stages (Solberg).
SS4 0,86 s/km
SS5 0,76 s/km (Atko 0,55 s/km) Solberg probably had a problem on that one
SS6 0,53 s/km
SS7 0,52 s/km
Total: 0,54 s/km
Well, I think that the first win for the new car will be in next 5-6 events:-)
The competition is really intense between Ford and Citroen and cannot be compared to that when Ford introduced their new car and Citroen introduced their new car. I think the car is very good.. just needs to be fine tuned.

0,5 sec/km actually is very much to catch, especially when 0,5 sec is not the whole truth, the guys lost that much even they had quite optimal starting positions.

I don't know if people have got this yet (ignore if you have), but the starting order for tomorrow doesn't include the SSS - therefore the Fords do not have a great road position, while Petter and Henning have better positions. This is the start order as far as I know:
Loeb
Latvala
Sordo
Hirvonen
Petter
Henning
Aava
Atkinson
I expect Latvala to struggle 2nd on the road, although Mikko should get third quickly.
Aava and Henning should have a good battle with Petter for 4th.

lets hope Hennning can use his road positon then :)
0,5 sec/km actually is very much to catch, especially when 0,5 sec is not the whole truth, the guys lost that much even they had quite optimal starting positions.
Actually 0.5 sec/km is better than expected. And they have gone from 0.9sec/km to 0.5 in the first day. In addition the 0.5 sec/km is coming without the road position advantage they had in the first loop.

This +0.5 sec/km makes 3 to 4 minutes on full distance, how much where they normally behind with the old one?

Patric Sandell's car is faster (more power), no question about it. It's easy to distinguish the difference when mixed up with Gr.N cars. I guess it's only luck of consistency in driving that prevents Patrik Sandell from dominating the production group.
The Suzuki's are looking a lot better this time, but still not good enough to get into the game. I don't know why, but it looks like both Suzuki are bouncing to much on the rocky sections.
Terrible access to SSS, 60 min just to get in the parking area. I don't understand the organizers, what's the point of designating huge parking lot, when only one entrance exist. Probably half of the visitors missed the start of the SSS.

Torque is more important than power especially on such terrain(rough gravel), and S2000s haven't turbos, so less torque...

Yes, and it's easy to understand. But the point is if it's crap, it's cheaper, and easier for privateers to buy/rent this car. So in some way chosing the Impreza might be more preferrable for small teams than participating in "deforced" Fords (and we know that private Focuses aren't the same as the works ones), expensive Citroens and so on.l

Does somebody know if today they have the same extreme narrow sections with a lot of tight corners as yesterday, I saw it this night on Eurosport. It seems a lot of drivers didn’t like those swinging sections, like Hirvonen.
I have the idea and I’m not kidding, that a few of the drivers have to practice more on the Richard Burns Rally Simulator and push on the limit more on stages like Tanner and Harwood Forest. RBR lovers know what I’m talking about.

There is a bit of difference between slinging your armchair in your living room and a 2800 pound rally car, so practicing on RBR is rather irrelevant. Of course if you wanna practice in front of your TV and pretend to rally more power to you. Nothing can replace seat time.
I think it results too much of a lottery...
True but I'd rather a lottery than the same old easy win for Loeb ;)

Duff, that’s nice to read that RBR is also in a good way to practice but I understand the real thing is an other world. Maybe also understanding pacenotes, if you don’t know the stages it soo difficult even with RBR.
Sagsert, RBR is not an arcade game,it quite a rallysimulator and if you ‘play’ and not drive it If you will, you can understand much better what rally driving is about. I don’t say how it is to be rallydriver, only to understand it better.

JML was sure to get past Petter at any rate, he had halved the deficit in just two stages. Loeb will still suffer a little during the re-runs but since JML is 2nd on the road and Petter 5th, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

If you look at the splits Petter has been on Latvalas pace on most of them, so I think it is closer than it seems
I didn't expect Petter to lose that much time in 10km, and I think he would have to fight hard for his third place now, Latvala is really hauling.

About rbr, these guys drives for the their entire life since they were young with a lot of experiences, there are no reason they need to play RBR. Even driving on snowy road in real life for me is very different experience. Ofcourse the game really help me articulate my driving, but I think if any of these drivers competing in the WRC depending on a video game.... it's just a very ridiculous and absurd idea, beside this game is very geared toward Richard driving style, which actually isn't my style actually so I sort of struggle with the game. Don't get me wrong I love the game.
Ofcourse Henning Solberg played rbr for the first time on frazer well and made 2:00. And Loeb played Lemans on his PS2 before he went to take 2nd place at Lemans, but that's more to get used to the track layout.

Solberg lost a lot of time in Hirvonen's dust, as he very elegantly put "it is rallying" when there is really no safe place to pass you just suck it up and avoid wrecking the car. Seemingly the new Impreza is better than it's predecessor or more competitive against the Citroens and Fords. I hope Petter does well, 'cause he really deserves a good result after sucking it up and taking it like a man with the Old Boat. OTOH, Atkinson's starter problem is very odd. According to Colin, they did not seem too pressed to fix the damn thing, they didn't even try to jarr the car to have the starter skip a tooth or seven, very odd, I have overloaded starters before but never DNF'd because of one, even in my temperamental Mitsu with odd ball engine managements and Estonian wiring SNAFU.
IMHO no matter how sophisticated or advanced they appear video games are simply games. Things are very different in real life. Want proof, spend a few hundreds of thousands of bucks and go rally, then tell me if you had time to play a game or you would exchange any extra time you can scrape working on the car for sitting in front of your TV with a joystick in your hand,

There is no rule for that. Drivers in both categories are P3 drivers so they are seeded after P1/P2 and before non-seeded but other than that, I think it's up to stewards. On gravel it's safe to assume that PWRC would be seeded first but on tarmac it as well might be other way around.

If Petter can manage to end today in 3rd place, say 30 secs behind Loeb and 15 secs behind Sordo, could Subaru do the impossible and win with the Citroens disadvantaged by road position?
Or if he can get into 2nd, with Sordo continuing to lose time, so Petter's about 20 secs behind Loeb and a minute ahead of Sordo, then it could happen.
Worst would be if he ended about 40 secs behind Loeb and 5 secs ahead of Sordo because he would be caught up with his bad road position and couldnt get Loeb. This unfortunately is what I think will happen...
Much to think about.

Interesting about Sordo on WWR.
If you didn't hear, then Sordo has two bad tyres i.e. punctures. He is driving to the next stage on a semi-flat tyre, changing it to a slightly more inflated tyre just before the stage, driving the stage with the flat tyre, then at the end, he has to use a slightly-inflated tyre to do the 60km back to service!
If at any point on a road section he has 3 tyres and a rim, then he has a 10 minute time penalty!
Exciting, no !

Yes, because you not allowed to run on three wheels only. It's not question of Police this year, but rules so far.

Of course. I think this is another explanation of way how Loeb do his own tactics, he 'sell' stage 11 to save tyres and have possibility to run faster on two remainings. Simply clever (not Skoda, which mean 'shame' in our language also) ;)

My guess is Loeb go flat out last stage, Sordo drops some seconds and petter has to choose if he want to be so close to Loeb as possible or starting 3rd tomorrow.

Not really. You want that the new Subaru gets a great result by the others bad luck, or because it is a competitive car? Even M.Wilson got nice result in some other rally...but still not competitive enough.

But take a look here, I think it's better see numbers: http://www.vysledky-rally.cz/vysledky/statistiky/?id=40&pos=4225
(first column is stage, second position on stage with lost to winner, third overall position with lost to leader)
