View Full Version : Ford Fiesta's?

Ford had the 2 Stobart Fiesta S1600 in the BRC a few years ago that were awesome but a bit off the pace.
Also they had 2 S2000 Fiesta's out in Australia
Where are they all now?

Fiesta S1600 maybe looks awesome but Roman Kresta after a season with it in Stobart said it was the worst car he has ever driven...
Fiestas S2000 were offered for sale but it is said that Darren Windus should start with one of them in remaining Australian rallys this season.

I would'nt take too much notice of what Kresta says........they should have given 1 to Mark Higgins he would have got it working, they gave up too quick on S1600 version.

ste898: Heh, it doesn't matter what anyone should have done. What matters is that Fiesta was and still is total crap.
By the way why do You think that official Reiger suspension technician, chief Prokop's JRC/PWRC engineer, former Ford test driver (who was mainly developing Focus 06 and 07), a man who made basic setups for large number of drivers including Gronholm, Hirvonen and Gardermeister in the past (last time for Vovos - Munchi's), is not able to rise such bad car if he gets some chance and budget from M-Sport? ;)

Calm yourself down .man Kresta is OK then but not a god!!!!

I just wanted to say that sentences like "they should have given 1 to Mark Higgins he would have got it working" are simply useless. There must have been any kind of interest in M-Sport first...
I don't say Kresta is god. He's not. He's just a mechanic who was a long time a go given a chance to drive 120 Hp Skoda Favorit... :)

I agree with Mirek, the Fiesta S1600 is total crap!!!
Just remember last year.Alesandro Bettega got a full JRC season with the Fiesta S1600.The result???He stopped the project at the middle of the season. He got fed up with the car.He had endless mechanical problems and when the car was working it was too slow and off the pace.
And I wont comment on that Mark Higgins number 1 statement because it is useless.Just remember who was setting up the car for M-Sport,JM Engineering,Petak and Prokop (and all this only in 2008!!!).And is one of the fastest drivers around.Yep its Roman Kresta!!!

Must be a different Roman Kresta then.....the one I know drove for M-Sport in 2005 and did nothing!!!

Is he still only in the EVO 9? in Poland championship?

In Czech championship
...Where are they all now?
Roman Kresta thread or Fiesta S1600 thread?
Fiesta S1600 is crap. Who will drive? Who cares where the car is. Fiesta N3 is the car... ;)
Fiesta S2000 is dead. Team who build the car has no money. There is no Ford money in.
Roman Kresta: Malcolm love his attitude and knowledge of testing the Focus WRC06. Kresta has a big hand in the development of that car. Maybe not a good racedriver, he is a good testdriver.

Roy I dont give a toss what you think of the Fiesta and clearly you dont like it so keep out of the debate thanx!!!
Fiesta N3 is the car........dont make me laugh I would rather watch paint dry!!
at least the Fiesta S1600 had a nice sound too it.

Fiesta N3 is the car.It is a nice car with lots of parts and one make series which have nice rewards (like Bettega should have had).It is budget car and Ford succeded with that one.It is very often seen in alomst all championships.
Fiesta S1600 is a failure.Ford developed it when the S1600 class was becoming too expensive and it was becoming obvious that it will die soon. The car is now extremely rare, nobody wanted to buy it.
And of course that the S1600 car is better to watch,no doubt about that!!!

The Fiesta S1600 is a car really attractive... in terms of performance, I think that was not a good development...
M sport builts and sells/rent Focus WRC´ s. This is I think their main (and preferable/profitable) business.
The Fiesta S1600 was designed at Boreham and was a total disaster (J-M Latvala drove it with little success). M-sport tried to salvage the project, but I think due to homologation restrictions and fundamental failures in original design it proved impossible

These were in Ulster, but i did speak to him at the Jim Clark earlier that year and he said it was crap.

It was Isle of man I think ;) It was a huge crash and Kresta refused to drive Fiesta again on ERC Barum rally two weeks after that (Wilson allowed him to drive Mitsubishi). His last outing was Ulster where he was classiffied after neverending technical problems and superrally somewhere down the field.

Is he still only in the EVO 9? in Poland championship? In czech championship and with Evo IX. Not "only", because N4 are the top cars allowed in czech rallyes. And if you mean S2000, you'll see within few weeks ;)
Must be a different Roman Kresta then.....the one I know drove for M-Sport in 2005 and did nothing!!!Agree, that season wasn't the best for Kresta. In general, let's take it like Higgins is briliant driver and Kresta is brilliant technician.

One competing at the weekend not sure how sucessfully!

Very much, man! Maybe the first ever victory for Fiesta among all 2wd cars :)
Zedník was 11th overall and 1st non-N4. After two years of strugling with huge number of mechanical failures and a lack of power he deserves that. No matter it was because both 2WD favourites retired for mechanical failures.

But you all should know that everything wearing a Ford logo belong to the 7 marvellous things of the world, for our friend Ste898 !!! :p :
And to be clear, Focus 06 was mainly tested by M. Higgins. Both -Gardemeister and Kresta, drove it in Australian shakedown for the first time.

Yes of course, The Fiesta S1600 was good in look and style but it gets entire problem with its Technical manufacturing as its s failure in technical configuration

I wouldnt say that the Fiesta S2000 is dead. I heard a while ago M-Sport are to be building new Fiesta S2000 for the WRC. With one possibly being in the BRC from 2009?
This was a two or so months ago so plans might've changed but M-Sport wont be using a Focus in S2000! With the new Fiesta on its way it would make more sense now then before.
Oh, and to say that the Mark Higgins comment is useless is wrong. As someone said earlier, Miggins did a large percentage (if not all) of the testing on the new shape Focus WRC ... cant remember Kresta doing any/setting the world stage completely alight?!?! Granted he's a very good mechanic and drives with mechanical sympathy in mind but you cant say Miggins comment is useless then say that Kresta is the dogs kahunas!
Mirek

Sorry, I haven't said Miggins's comments were useless (I would never say that!) but ste898's comments about Fiesta were useless ("they should have given 1 to Mark Higgins he would have got it working") as any comment of that way several years later is useless.
Just read what was actualy written not what Your brain wants to see ;) :)

Group N cars are quiet and largely boring.
In general cars aren't very good to begin with which is why they go through development and I don't see why people are slagging off the Fiesta, surely any new rally car is a good thing.
Oh and Roman Kresta = Not good, a name consigned to the "What happened" folder of the WRC.

Perhaps that could be interpreted to mean that with Mark's experience working with Ford he could've perhaps worked with the team and the car to create something which was a bit more of an event winner?

Well, but what is the point in saying "perhaps", "maybe" etc.? We say that after the battle is over, everyone is the best general. And the battle is at least two years over...

GpN cars arent boring when driven properly, no car is
Fiesta hardly being slagged, just people have stated the correct facts that while being a very good car to look at, maybe even the nicest S1600, it was not very effective on the stages, forget about Higgins and Kresta, Latvala drove the car and he was dropping about a sec per mile, and that was just when the car was running well...

Which is why I said 'largely boring'. I've seen some driven very well indeed but in general they are not extremely exciting, certainly not a lot of the rallies I go to.
Yes, it happens for some rally, they will be doing many actions but they fail to make us excited as they'll be doing the same repeated things, and rally will be going very smoothly
