Two lake side cabins booked for whole week, good for 10 people plus few extra ones if needed. Cabins well equipped also boat in use for those who want to go for fishing or just to relax on the lake :)

Half an hour / 40 mins drive to Jämsä and Jyväskylä and most of the stages within less than hour of driving ;)

To me it sounds more like the start of a plan to buy something new.
If they will run a M2 team they should soon have to put an order in for a fleet of 08 spec cars. The problem is who will finance the second car? I guess everybody wants Henning if he get a new Expert deal (Stobart, Adapta/Østberg and Ramsport).

Ok, point taken :)

I was just thinking about his outings with the rented Mitsu from RRE Sports and the sponsorless red Mitsu from Ralliart, so I assumed that he didn't have the kind of money/sponsors that Rantanen has.

From what I know, Ramsport thought they had some deal with Gareth Jones (for 4 events) and possible Manfred Stohl for 1-2 events. But in the end they feared they would end up in the same situation as Kronos last year, so the M2 plans were dropped.

But I still think that Van Merkstejn is planning an M2 entry next year with 2 Ford Focus's. Does anybody have any news regarding that?

I don't know which one has the most sponsors/money but Hänninen has RRE Sports as one of his sponsors/partners so that might explain his outings with "rented" RRE Mitsu ;) More about Juho and his sponsors over here http://www.juhohanninen.com/

I try to open Stage Maps (http://www.nesteoilrallyfinland.fi/attachements/2008-07-02T11-24-14253.pdf)in this page http://www.nesteoilrallyfinland.fi/en/competitors/ , but the system says, that I need to put password, but all other documents I open with out passwords....

Where is the problem?

Thanks

They (stage maps) are probably only for the competitors. I tried also to open the stage maps from the “Media” link (Press Releases / Rally Guide 2 published) but same problem. The route can be found from these links (Day 1 is missing?).

Day 2: http://www.nesteoilrallyfinland.fi/attachements/2008-02-28T19-31-08175.pdf

Day 3: http://www.nesteoilrallyfinland.fi/attachements/2008-02-28T19-32-59175.pdf

If you are planning to come and watch the rally, I think the only way to get some more information about the stages, is to buy the NORF issue of the Finnish motor sport magazine “Vauhdin Maailma”. There is also a brief explanation of the stages in English.

"Applications to compete in the Championship must be submitted to the FIA no later than 15 December of the year preceding the year of the Championship.
At the time of application, the entrant must nominate 6 rallies in the Championship in which he/she will participate."

So next year you can not run both championships like Sandell and Prokop this year? ♠

How many events they need to run per Championship? If it is six or less then one can run both I think.

Roy

You can run both Championships, I think. But it will not be enough to win that Championship. The Championships exists by all rallies and drivers have to skip minimal one of them.

pantealex
4th July 2008, 14:36
2008 there is 8 PWRC events, drivers mus skip 2 = 6 rallies/driver or team
2008 there is 7 JWRC events, drivers must skip 1 = 6 rallies/driver or team
that is 12 rallies if you drive both series like Sandell and Prokop.
in
2009 there is 8 PWRC events, how many you can drive?
2009 there is 8 JWRC events, how many you can drive?
if rule is same than 2008 (6 rallies/serie) you can drive both series! (and race in every WRC event!)

Great entrylist, especially for PWRC and JWRC. Looking forward to a very interesting battle (i guess there will be great battle in both categories). I think it will be closer battle in PWRC and JWRC than in major categorie of WRC. Anyhow, it looks that it is going to be a great rally again. :D

I just love statistics:-) So, I found quite funny fact about NORF.
Grönholm was in top 8 five times in a row at the beginning of his career (I do not count those times that were before the first top 8 in NORF - the same for the following drivers) then he retired in 2003 and Märtin won
Sainz was in top 8 five times in a row at the beginning of his career and then retired on his sixth attempt.
Kenneth Erikson was in top 8 five times in a row at the beginning of his career and then retired on his sixth attempt.
Jarmo Kytolehto was in top 8 five times in a row at the beginning of his career and then was 16th on his sixth attempt.
Märtin was in top 8 five times in a row at the beginning of his career and then retired from the sport.

The only man who has braked that rule was Timo Salonen who retired on his 12th attempt :-)

Who has sixth year in a row to collect points this year? Can he succeed? Yes of course it is Loeb :-) So, can he break that impossible 6 in a row rule :-)

Hi guys, I'm thinking very hard on going this year, but is late in planning and have not made any arrangements for anything, and is also on my own - which sounds kind of boring. My question is therefore simple, is there anyone of the forumers that has a vacant bed somewhere, I'm thinking thursday-sunday? I will of course cover my share of the cost.

I'm aware that this is very late to ask, but still...

One more question, what's the easiest way of getting to/from Jyvaskela-Helsinki? If I go, I'll fly in to Helsinki. Is there train, bus or is it car rental?

Hope someone knows..

Can you local boys tell me if it is possible to watch the top 10 through stage 12 and then make it to stage 14? Thanks

Only 1:21 between first cars on stage, IMO not enough time. I don’t know if you have been in NORF before but you have to take into account the driving between the stages, walking from the parking to the stage. If the parking is on the wayside, you maybe have to walk for several km. The worst case I’ve experienced was about 5 km of walking to stage and back. It was a nice start of the day.

For example my friends and me are planning to go and watch stage 3 and 6 (Mökkiperä), first car on the second run at 12:43. The next stage we are planning to watch is stage 10 (Jukojärvi), first car at 17:29.

IMO to be on safe side, you should have about 2-3 hours between when you leave the previous stage and the first car on the next stage. Are there any other opinions?

I'm quit sure of that. ;)

Your dinner cruise, does it leave from the harbour near the service area?

Well I'm stuck on the other side of the world and very jealous of you guys. Hope to have the chance to meet some of you there in the next couple of years (I guess not 2010).

No, this one leaves from Jämsä not Jyväskylä.

A friend from Finland ( Mika Pasanen ) made a 30min Film for a local Jyväskylä TV Channel, about the Tests from the Teams there.

If you're heading back on sunday, I'll have space in my car :)

Thanks for the offer, but I haven't been able to get a place to stay - so I won't go this year either, unfortunately. My own fault, too late in planning...

Unless someone still has a vacant bed somewhere...?

Last 10 years our bed have been in my car (yes, it`s sedan). It`s summer in here :D . And feeling is great, little bit forest party at night etc.

p.s. our record is me + 3 friends at 4 days... :s mokin:

My pictures of the boat cruise are on my website (same page as the rally pics, at the bottom of the page). I have avoided posting pictures of you guys as I don't want to scare the visitors away. :D

And if someone ever goes to a rally with A.F.F., please make sure you're good at reading maps, because his navigator isn't suited to visiting rallies. :p

Now I will relax and wait for Brother John to publish his biography with all necessary info about borrowing eggs. :D

I had much fun in Finland with all the present forum members.
A.F.F. and janneppi did the transport to the cottage and were the drivers for Pino and me the complete weekend. Tomy was my ride back to the airport on Sunday. thanks, for the good service boys.
Don Jippo had ensured a splendid place of residence for us. Thanks to Don and his wife for the hospitality and good food at their cottage. :)
On thursday morning the fun could start :D . After the shakedown and a visit at the service park we went shopping and back to the cottage.
The hole meeting with the forum gang is not only about rally for me! Talking with friends, to laugh, drinks, barbeque, swims and more in the beautiful Finnish nature. What do you need more?
Thanks, Don Jippo, Pino, PuddleJumper, Adrian, Tomi, Janneppi, A.F.F and Juha with its father for the nice weekend. To know all the details you come better next time to NORF. :s mokin: See you next time, because several from us want plenty of everything!

What a really great week! Thanks to everyone from the forum group for driving, lots of laughs and planning the accommodation and visits to the stages. Biggest thanks to DonJippo (and you great family; future flying-finns!) for organising the cottage, some great meals and picking me up from Jyvaskyla at some silly time in the morning. Thanks Tomi for the return trip to the airport too! Great to meet everyone and put a few faces to names that I have seen around on the net recently and for years.

I definitely want to go back to Finland now, if not only just to drive on those roads! What a great venue for a WRC round.

Thanks!

Adrian

Greetings to everyone who made the trip to Rally Finland - thank you for making it another fantastic rally weekend. It was great to see old friends and meet new friends too, even if the first encounter was through sleepy eyes at stupid o'clock in the morning.

Sorry I screwed up the whipped cream. :p :
