Does anyone have reliable numbers on what a season of Indy Lights goes for? I'm just curious as to what those guys are spending in the feeder series.

Thanks

I have a friend who's son ran IPS and looked at Atlantics as well. Here is a redacted note I got from him when I asked the difference in cost between the two.

While going through some old emails I noticed that I had not responded to yours. I think that IPS and Atlantic are now close to the same cost, IPS still being a little cheaper. We ran IPS with XYZ Racing and he was the economy route. Quotes we got from other teams for 2008 were in the $700K to $800K range. Crash damage will probably be about $100k to $250k for the year. The IPS engine budget will be a lot less than the Atlantic. Figure about $100K.

A friend that ran Atlantic last year with 123 Racing said that they spent a little under $1,000,000. We spent about $750,000 running IPS with XYZ Racing. IPS purses are very good. My son made about $136,000 coming in nth place over all for the year. Alex Lloyd who won the championship made over $359,000.

When I talked to a few teams a year ago the cheapest I heard for a full season was 400K, but that was the economy cheapest possible route.

2008 season with a good team comes in at a ceiling of $1.2m Then you deduct your split on prize money, insurance split re crash damage etc. Reckon you can get into a car for $800,000 and win.
