There has been a lot of talk about F1's point system, but considering WRC's current state their (same) system deserves more critical attention.

Loeb has 4 wins against Hirvonen's 1, but is still trailing him in the championship... Something doesn't seem to be right here, especially as Seb quite obviously seems the quicker driver. As the competition is quite weak anyway, then consistency is IMO too much rewarded, enabling a driver in a quick car just trundle around to collect consistent points and therefore participate in the title fight. In Argentina Mikko thanks to attrition still got a fair amount of points (4), although he lost more than by 20 minutes. In Jordan Loeb got nothing with a similar loss. This rather weird retirement at the Jordan rally has been seriously costly for Loeb.

I think it could do with some changes but I think at the moment Sebastien deserves to be behind Mikko. The fact is that Conrad and Seb had their coming together and points can't account for that. Sebastien shouldn't get points for the result that he should have got if that accident didn't happen. The fact of the matter is that Mikko has been very consistent and deserves to be where he is. JML is a prime example of someone who has been burning up the stages but hasn't been consistent so he's down in 4th in the championship with Atkinson behind him.

In 10-6-4-3-2-1 the championship I think would be:
1. Loeb 40
2. Hirvonen 33
3. Atkinson 20
4. Latvala 18
5. Sordo 16

Yes.Seb is fast, but he is not always on the finish (some mistakes(Sweden),some bad luck(Jordan)).And Mikko do more optimal driving.Finish, maybe slower but finish.Good driver is not that who kicks asses in few stages but that who can finish the rally.

I beleive you are describing the basic concept that rallying was based on.

Well yes.But with 10-6-4-3-2-1 points system it is harder to win the champiosnhip to more stabile drivers like Mikko and etc.

How about giving 12 points for 1st instead of 10?

Why not start with 20 points and even 50 points and give more people points?
