The second member of County Antrims world famous road racing clan, was killed in practice for the 250cc at the Northwest 200 last night. It seems his bike seized in the cooler evening conditions, throwing him off while he was travelling at 150mph and a rider behind hit him. He died of chest injuries. Truly shocking news.

Couldn't believe it when my brother told me this morning.

A truly great rider who obviously still loved the sport. A tragic loss. RIP!

Is it me, or is it happening more frequently now? Martin Finnegan last week, now Robert.

RIP Robert

perhaps its time for the organizers to reconsider what is allowed to race in real road racing, two strokes seem too dangerous.

I was gutted when Joey died, now Rob as well. It's a dangerous sport, but you are shocked to hear such news.
RIP Robert.

In fairness from the description given so far, the accident could have happened anywhere..

RIP Robert

Jesus, I didnt know that Martin Finnegan had been killed too. I'd say he was the biggest name in riders from the Rep of Ireland. Terrible.

Sad news indeed about Robert - I'm from just down the road from Armoy and know how much the Dunlop family means to that area.

The decision to let the NW200 race to go ahead was the right one. The racing today was some of the best I've ever seen.
