Jealous of all the Spark's in your collection, Harvick. I have a single one-the Cadillac LMP (not the Riley and Scott design). I purchased it on sale for roughly $15. Spark's were affordable when they first hit the market. Their recent releases are out of my legue ($35+), at least at normal retail....

You seem to have a collection focused on the more recent years. Check out this site: http://www.replicarz.com

The 'bargain basement' has some impressive sale items, including an IXO Ferrari 512 BB which raced at Le Mans in the early 80s for $10..

Another site: http://www.ewacars.com
Lots of Sparks for sale in the teens an up

I intend to start a GT / Sportscar collection but at the moment I only have a very small 'garage' of Touring and Rally cars. I do have a 1:43 Prodrive DBR9 of course. It's a crime not to! :p :

Very small at the moment, but I'm getting more into the Sportscar thing, so it may increase. A DBR9 is a definite must have addition, just got to choose one, there are so many!

In 1/43 scale, I've got the 2005 Le Mans Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari 360 of Reid/Kirkaldy/Kinch and the 2004 Barber Park 250 Porsche 911 GT3 of Gunnar Jeanette and Marino Franchitti.

Got a 1/32 scale Scalextric TVR Tuscan R of Martin Short and Simon Pullan from 2002. Good detail, maybe even better than some diecasts.

I do have a 1/18 Audi R8R from 1999, but I don't have the space for it and it's currently being eBayed for a very low price just to get rid of it. It wasn't a good racecar anyway! ;)

Spark models are still quite reasonable except for their Aston Martin and Ferrari Collection which is pricey for 1/43 and 1/18.

Spark makes much better models than Minichamps and Minichamps still cost more.

I would like to get some of the old Rothmans Porsche's that won Lemans. but when your only 20 years old, you seem to only seem to collect the newer cars, but I still like the old C2 cars from Lemans

As you are accustomed to Spark prices, this should not be a problem as Spark makes quite a few.

There should also be some out there from Vitesse/Quartzo at a more reasonable price of very good quality...

anyone collect,

I got quite a few myself,

Large collection, mostly kits I have built or horded over the years. Most of my sportscars are 1/24 scale. Piles of F1 in 1/20, several in 1/12, and one in 1/8. Primarily plastic but some resin including five Fisher kits. Paul Fisher is apparently out of the car biz, which is sad as he's such a joy to do business with. I have three of his 917 kits (two longtails and a 917/20 Pink Pig), a Chaparral 2F and a Ferrari 512S longtail (aka Coda Lunga). I have the LeMans Miniature Crocodile (favorite paint scheme of all time) Audi R8 and a Profil Group 44 XJR-5. The rest is mostly Revell, Tamiya, Hasegawa, and Fujimi sports cars like 917s, GT40s, GT1s, 935s, 956/962 mostly with aftermarket parts and decals, and street Ferraris. Nice part about modeling is you get to learn a lot about the innards when building and there are always other modelers to meet at races we attend. Great people! First event of the year will be Hope it Don't Snow outside Rochester, Minnesota in a week, then one at a Ferrari/Maserati dealership in Chicago in March.

get the 1/43 over the 1/18.

I'm going to be hopefully getting the 2006 Mid-Ohio Winner #7 RS Spyder soon

29th January 2007, 22:20
the #59 Aston Martin DBR9 1:18 (the autoart model, not the cheaper version)

And a 2003 winning Le Mans Bentley, signed by all 3 drivers (with certificate of authenticity) 1 of 500 worldwide.

both in their original boxes, both dust free, and both look absolutely fantastic

:)

which cheaper one, Spark's Aston's are 160 Dollars US, the 1/43 are 70 Dollars US :mark:

real_illusions
29th January 2007, 22:34
the cheaper ones here are made by solido. They're half the price of the Autoart models.

Autoart is £50..solido is £25 (if my maths is correct) both 1:18

Hello fellow model collectors. I mainly collect ChampCar diecast but I also like collecting GT's and have a reasonable collection. I am quite a fan of prototypes and was very happy to see Montoya win the Rolex 24 hour race last weekend. The first thing I thought was "Man I want a diecast of that car" I contacted Motorsport Authentics who made Daytona Prototypes in the past and asked if they would make one. I was basically told no.

If you are like me and you want one of these cars in your collection can I ask that you contact Motorsport Authentics and tell them you want one. After all without demand there is no supply....

I stopped bothering with MA. They keep raising their prices and not including anything new  I still buy maybe 1-2 Harvick cars a year, but only raced versions.

I have no need to buy model cars. I can make them instead. Being a scratch builder and having a very large reference library i can build any car that's out there. Right now i have two cases of Crawford number Citgo 20(tony stewart) cars that i'm converting into The Boss Snowplow car for EFR. I make my own markings. My own personal collection was donated to the Watkins Glen Motorracing research Library. Each car has been signed by the original drivers. IE: MB300sl signed by Moss and Jenks, Porsche 935 Moby Dick both versions. 956 1983 Le Mans Car signed by all the drivers...Silk Cut Jag's signed by all the winning drivers. Momo 935 Moby Dick signed by Morretti. in total there are about 100 models that i have built that are there on display. Currently I'm making a replica starting grid of the 1988 Le Mans. 30 cars have been made.

Would you be willing to post the picture when you're done, as it was my favorite year of Le Mans? Maybe slide the #2 out front when you take the picture? :)

Thanks.

I don't have a web site never needed one....I have 2 years worth of work right now..everything is word of mouth for me..i have clients all over the world. If I put the number two out front on the grid then you'll know who won. Right now I'm working on a Vasek Polok 917.

finally it was put on Ebay, got tired of waiting for Spark to deliver new cars in June

i'm making the R10 out of resin and machined parts. a total of 400 parts to be made. it will be a 1/12th scale model.

will it have open engine or no, because that would be badass, that will take you quite along time building that up to strach, but I'd like to see it when its done :)

IMSAFAN1
8th February 2007, 01:28
it will have a motor in it....i have to make the body in one piece but it will have the separation lines in case someone wants to cut the body and remove the panels..i figure it will take about a year to make from start to finish.

I have a friend who has built many 1/12 cars from scratch. Good luck!

A R8 would be easier, as someone makes a 1/12 engine kit...

i've already made an R8...1/12th scale...I make cars only for private collectors not for public sale. Every detail that's on the 1:1 car is in my 1/12th scale car. even all the little head bolts in the motor are machined. this car is going to a collector in Japan. He has about 25 pieces of mine already. I keep the molds.

I've got the #007 Aston Martin by Autoart (1:18) and am looking at a Solido model of one of the other DBR9s - mainly because its half the price.

Anyone know what the quality of the Solido models are like or am I better off saving up for another Autoart one and paying the extra?

No, I don't mean a website to generate sales, just pictures of your cars. Your pieces sound very interesting. There are dozens of sites that allow you to store and host digital pics online and post the photos at sites like this.

A gentleman who posts as "Chaparral" does something similar, though he mainly focuses on Champ and Indy cars. The pictures he posts show the amazing detail of the cars he builds.

I wish I had the disposable income to start collecting again. I love the 1/43 scale and I collected sports cars, F1 cars and NASCAR's in that size, but alas, NASCAR in 1/43 are not around any more to buy. Shame really, the pride of that part of my collection is a limited edition "Racing Champions" Alan Kulwicki Ford done up in the Army paint job he ran at Daytona during the first Gulf War. I also have a Panoz "batmobile" GT car, an Audi r8, a Jackie Stewart Tyrell that is the last year he won the World Championship, a Richard Petty Superbird, a Ferrari 312t4 that Gilles Villeneuve drove, the Rothmans Williams that Jacques won the World championship in, A Scott Goodyear CART car that finished second at Indy, and numerous others....

Just with the period of unrest in my financial life, little race cars has taken a back seat for some time....

IMSA fan, you should take some photos of your collection and post them for a us, I would love to see your work....

As you can see, I have a few, over 800 1:43 in total. I have a huuge F1 collection, as well as loads of Class 2 touring cars, DTM, NASCAR and Rally cars both new and classic.
Most of my sportscars are Minichamps,Spark and Ixo/Onyx but I do have some Altaya and Solido(originals!) and GMP (very good models, excellent value!), but also some Provence Moulage and other handbuilt models (The rarest of which is the Porsche 917/80 GpC. Coupe converted by the Kremer brothers to race in 1982.

I've got the #007 Aston Martin by Autoart (1:18) and am looking at a Solido model of one of the other DBR9s - mainly because its half the price.

Anyone know what the quality of the Solido models are like or am I better off saving up for another Autoart one and paying the extra?

I know someone with the Solido #59 car from 2005 and it's a good model. Not seen an Autoart equivalent in person to compare it, but £20 or thereabouts for the Solido version is money well spent I'd say.

 I think I'm going to have to sell some sometime, 'cos if I ever move house I'm going to need a truck just for the models!

I really want more 1:43 NASCAR's but they only seem to come in 1:24 in die-cast.. Anyone know any makers/sources? I know of Action and the early 90's Quartzo models, but haven't seen any more modern 1:43'ds...
