Mark Hales is possibly my favourite motoring writer. Cracking article which I thought was good to share

Good read... although I"d take issue with his assertion that "most British Touring Car rounds attract just 3,000 or 4,000 spectators"....

3000-4000 spectators for the BTCC? I thought that it was at least 20000 on average!?

Maybe he missed out a 0 and meant 30,000 to 40,000?

Mark Hales is pro/am racer and raced in Porsche Supercup in the guest seat.

Surprised he came up with silly number.

A laughable attempt to make the DTM attendance appear good, when in fact they may be on their way away from the isle as noone is coming out to watch it...

I wouldn't have thought that many as an average, but neither is it as few as the article suggests.

Any comparison between the popularity of touring car series in different countries is pretty irrelevant anyway, given the different types of circuits used and the higher general public consciousness of series such as the DTM and V8 Supercars in their home nations compared to most other national championships.

Aren't the DTM cars very different to other touring cars?

It doesn't help that they choose a weekend that clashes with the BTCC to hold the UK round. :(
