An interesting candidate to possibly replace FIA President Max Mosley in 2009 has emerged.

The French daily morning newspaper Le Figaro, citing an unnamed minister, reports that it is current Prime Minister Francois Fillon's 'dream' to lead the governing body of world motorsport.

How about we get someone who knows and understands motorsport instead?

You didn't read the link did you?
Maybe you did sorry if I'm being a little presumptuous!
The article mentioned one pretty good referance! I don't know what his status is in "The Automobile Club de l'Ouest"

Perhaps we shouldn't discard him before we take a little closer look at his credentials!

"He is a member of the famous 24 hour race's organiser, the Automobile Club l'Ouest"

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest (Automobile Club of the West - referring to the western region of France), sometimes abbreviated to ACO, is the largest automotive group in France. It was founded in 1906 by car building and racing enthusiasts, and is most famous for being the organising entity behind the annual Le Mans 24 Hours race. The ACO also lobbies on behalf of French drivers on such issues as road building and maintenance, the availability of driving schools and road safety classes, and the incorporation of technical innovations into new vehicles. It also runs a roadside assistance service for its members!

On July 9, 2007, Yves Courage of Courage Compétition offered Fillon a chance to drive a Courage LC75 prototype around the smaller Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans where Courage is based.[8] His best time was 1:50.300 after ten laps

Fillon has a reputation as an Anglophile and has had speaking engagements at a wide variety of universities in Britain, notably the London School of Economics.[3]

The FIA could do alot worse than Fillon!

Your post prompted me to read it :p :

But yes, the FIA could do a lot worse than Fillon. But IMO I'd wait until he's at least the President of the ACO and see if he's decent or not.

The problem with whoever gets in is that you can rarely guarantee that whoever gets put in charge will give equal attention to the FIA series, and won't make stupid hypocritical decisions (see Max's cost-cutting compared with his 2.4L V8 Formula).

In any case I hope Max gets voted out!!!

Wasn't it Max who combined the motorsport and non-motorsport activities of the FI(S)A under one Presidency?

Perhaps it is time they were separated again.

Yeah and his wife is Welsh. I quite like the guy, pity his president has had such a lackluster start. Usually when French presidents' popularity falls, it's the PM's head which falls first.

Q. – Some commentators say that it is dangerous when a Prime Minister becomes more popular than a President?
THE PRIME MINISTER – They change their analysis so quickly I prefer not to pay them much attention. The polls change so quickly from one week to the next. It only takes one event which strikes the French for the polls to change. All that doesn’t matter. What matters is that we have a President for five years who is determined to change things. All the rest is anecdotal.
Q. – Is it not the role of the Prime Minister to be…?
THE PRIME MINISTER – More unpopular than the president? We will see over the longer term./.

The more I read about this guy, I'm becoming convinced that he should be given serious consideration

How about Ronaldo??

Who's Ronaldo ? Don't know him, as for Fiorio he's a very serious a competitive person who has been involved for many years in Motorsport, go and read his curriculum, he would be a great choice ;)
