The belgium media says and writes that Loeb has got a letter of the F.I.A. (Max Mosley, maybe?)
For the good image of the WRC he would better go to a hairdresser and shave himself! :dozey:
Incredibly that the F.I.A. dare to ask these questions and that they do not dare to sack Max for the good image of the F.I.A. !

I thought this was a joke when mentioned earlier... but it appears to be true...
The Figaro newspaper in Paris has this morning published an exchange of e-mails regarding multiple World Champion Sebastien Loeb. The first e-mail was sent by Surinder Thatti, one of Max Mosley's closest allies, and head of the FIA Confederation of African Countries in Motorsport (CACMS), to the WRC committee chairman Morrie Chandler complaining about the appearance of Loeb after the Mexico Rally. Copies of the messages were also sent to other FIA bureaucrats.... more at http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns20321.html

Definitive proof that Loeb is killing the WRC!
The question begs... doesn't Mr Thatti have better things to concern himself about?

Well in my opinion, after doing a special stage in hot conditions, fireproof overalls at high speed the driver and co-driver should take time to ensure that a nice shirt and tie with Dinner Jackets or Tuxedos should be worn.
What a load of complete blks!
Think the FIA have lost the plot - if they ever had it!!

Wow. :o hplease:
Does it really matter how drivers/co-drivers look? Loeb could have a mullet and piercings, but as long as he can drive then so be it.
I don't mean to sound alarming, but this place feels like the ol' CCWS forum more and more everyday. Little exposure, expensive cars to run/transport, a committee in charge who are seemingly out of touch with reality, and sponsor dollars that keep drying up!

I think all of the drivers in the WRC should not shave for the rest of the year as a protest :D
Here is one for you Max and co: What about giving time penalties and large fines to the crews who complete any special stage with dirt on their cars?
Think i might have just lined myself up for a job in the FIA!!!

They could've remember the time, when Peter had Kurt Cobain look :)
I suggest WRC crew should not only be shaved and clean, but wear special homologated ties and wear strictly white helmets. Oh, and the liveries, gosh they awfull.. Clearly they must solid color, two 3.5" wide stripes are allowed.
As for official dinners, Hugo Boss dress is mandatory, early models (1939) prefered.
It is just unbelievable, when i first read about it, i thought it was a joke. Whata a morons we have in FIA, this is the utter bollocks i have read for a long time. This is more than plain stupid, it is almost criminal to be so stupid. :D
BTW Viking: that arse whipping joke was good

Oh dear! If the FIA rally commision are so bored they have to concern themselves with Loeb's outward appearance, does it mean they've rushed through all the rule changes for 2009 with even less thought than usual?

Loeb is the scruffiest driver ever in WRC he looks like a tramp in need of a good wash......every other driver looks presentable, but that is up to Citroen to tell him not the FIA!!!

Ok, first off, OF ALL PEOPLE to judge right now, that is mildly hillarous.
As a girl, I have to say that in general a man can look good with or without facial hair, besides men having stubble and "bed" hair is nothing out of the ordinary, if anything IT IS normal ffs.
This is really the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard at this level. It gives me an impression of further proof of what the FIA is trying to turn this sport into now.

Wrong Daniel! :p : Not the WRC has to die, but the F.I.A. has to die.
They are those who break the WRC.
I remind myself a thread about the F.I.A on this forum, I think it was in 2006.
Now almost everyone agreed concerning what I said then already! :D
For me the F.I.A. is still an organisation which don´t know how to run this like they would have to do it.

Yes I am all for that all teams in WRC need to have the same cut as the US Marines. And FIA will form a new HairComitty that will do inspections before every rally ! :bonce:
If Citroen are happy, then FIA should stay the hell out of how people choose to have their hair, and that goes for all hair on the body !!!

On the group photo of all the champs from within FIAs domains taken in Monte carlo in january Loeb is the only one wearing no tie... One might think dieffernt thoughts abt this. personally i do not care that much, allthough one in one way could look at it as a positive reflection of the rallysport in relation to the other motorspots as a little ruougher...? Or maybe not.
Regarding dresscodes it naturally comes down to how the sponsors look upon people who do not stay in the box. Actually, i do not think they care that much, and afterall the FIA party in MC doesn´t sell that many cars, it is more like a private party, even if the car manus in the end sign the bill. I also think that it is not wrong that drivers in WRC look a bit grungier then their slick colleagues in F1, I sincerely doubt that the potential car buyers care that much.
A final reflection is that it is ok if Loeb is a but grungy and goes his own way, he is after all one of the greatest in the sport. If rautenbach decided to play his own game and keep a high profile of the track then it maybe would be another question...

In all seriousness, who actually defines 'scruffy'?
I mean to some people Loab's phyisical apperance may be seen as attractive.
Some girls dig the unshaven look. It actually works quite well on some blokes.
Also, if Loab is scruffy, then why is Jensen Button forced to shave his attempted beard?
Yet another publicity avoidance stunt my the FIA and its member if you ask me.
I think all of the drivers in the WRC should not shave for the rest of the year as a protest :D
Or put on pirate beards or false moustaches for the official photo :D

Loeb is folowing the trends in fashion, but I guess FIA is not.
Mrs Loeb has very good taste, as far as I have seen, and as in most relationships, the wife has her saying also when it comes to clothes.
Most of us don't care, Lewis jeans and a t-shirt worked in 1980 and still does....
FIA: Start concentrating on what is important, and until you have fixed that - leave the other stuff that does not matter alone !!!

Simply (tragic) hilarious! A clear proof that the FIA pamps have their roots in a completely different decade.
The Solbergs is interviewed regarding the issue (check out Petters look in the picture...):
http://www.dagbladet.no/sport/2008/05/08/534761.html
Brief translation:
Petter Solberg thinks the case in embarrasing for the FIA.
"This is simply too stupid, we get up at 4-5 AM, and finishes around 10 PM. We need rest, its the driving that matters. I think they (Citroen) has other details to focus on other than Loebs appearance."
Petter has following proposal for FIA:
"Maybe you should prioritize rally some more, show more passion for our sport and not only F1. If they do, I'll promise to get Seb to shave!"
He also says that he won't shave before next rally.

Dont pay so much attention to a guy who wear a pink tie.
Dont think most of the French female population (and some of the male too) would prefer to sleep with him instead of Seb. Perhaps his point is made out of jealously!
I have to say it does show how out of touch the FIA are with the sport if this was meant to be a constructive point. Rather I think it was a political move to ensure that African events are favoured when it comes to the awarding of championship events. As for Chandler if he seriously entertained this viewpoint when the sport is in it's current state with very few if any true characters then I'm afraid we are doomed...
What the... that's just... I mean... ack! Honestly... ugh.
Unbelievable. This is a completely new level of utter stupidity. Insult to real men? I'm afraid to think what his idea of a real man is...

And this is the good part Surinder did co-drive Billy Rautenback (Conrads father and all around good guy) and it is said he is a friend of the family, and as we know Conrad “took out” scruffy kid Loeb in Jordan before he could make another rally win and bad media appearance. Hmm….. :D

I'm surprised Chandler came out with this. From what I've heard from him he seemed like a decent down to earth bloke. If I was Loeb I wouldn't give a stuff what these two say. The FIA is in no position to question someone's image. Evidently you can't be considered a real man if you are arguably the greatest driver in the history of the sport.
I would encourage other drivers to follow Petter's lead and make the FIA look even more stupid. (Not sure it's possible).
I suppose when Loeb wins his 5th title in a row and leaves to race the DTM and sportscars he wont shed too much of a tear.

Knowing Morrie well I would say that the "insult to real men" comment is very, very much out of character if said seriously but not so if said in humour.
Given that these were 'private' emails, I suspect it was all a bit tongue in cheek on his part and that he's probably as taken aback by Thatti's remarks as we all are.

Like Sollitt I know Morrie Chandler well, and I am sure that he is surprised with the result of one email comment made with a sense of humour. Personally I think Loeb has changed his image, and he now looks a bit unkempt. That is the current fashion so no big deal.
Good publicity for Rallying over such a minor thing.
For Tomi he was the Clerk of the Course for Rally New Zealand for many years. He was also a Rally competitor. I doubt anyone has better intentions for Rallying anywhere.

If he really did it with a sense of humour he should have at least made it clear to this guy that he was being a bit stupid. Thatti should have been told straight up that his criticisms were irrelevant. I've not really heard anything bad about Chandler so I think it's best to go with what Bowler and Solitt say and put it down to humour.
On the style side I think Loeb suits his look. I remember in 2005 when Marcus started to grow his hair long. Didn't suit him at all. He even had the balls to criticise my unshaven look at the shakedown. B****** :p I did shave the next day though. When a two time WRChampion says shave you shave :D
