I live in Cincinnati about 100 miles from Indy. When I was a kid the local media, TV, radio and newspapers used to cover the 500 just about every day through the month of May. We had a couple of local "teams" that were always among the "run whatcha brung" crowd at the speed way each year. That tradition of coverage extended through the CART era. When the split occurred the coverage tapered off each successive year to very little except a quick mention of pole day and the race weekend.
This year though the local ABC affiliate (also the highest evening news viewership) has already started their coverage in earnest. They covered the rookie orientation. They do a Sunday night sports magazine and had an interview with both Graham and Justin. They just covered today's happenings. I am in total shock! Vive la unification!
