I think number 2 is Ian McKellar Jr, ex-British GT Champion and ASCAR racer.

I want to see Gavin Pyper back in a touring car.

Any of the old guard from the supertouring days.

Incase people don't know, BT96 is a team boss, so you could have an influence on his team if you say someone a bit more realistic than someone from the old days! ;)

I didnt know that. So Iain, you have a good point regarding Gavin Pyper, it would be nice to see him back and racing.

Also, and forgive my lack of current knowledge, but i would also like to see Tom Ferrier racing again, i know he competed the last round last year in a Toledo, and there were rumours he would get a drive in that Toledo this season, but i dont know if he has or is likely too.

Gavin Pyper & Tom Ferrier. Two top drivers. Gavins faster IMO, but Tom more consistent.

Neil Adams
22nd January 2007, 00:42
stefan hodgetts, was a match for huff and quicker than a lot of the other drivers in 03 scc e.g. smith, shedden, pickford

shaun watson smith, set fastest laps in a proton in 04, put him in a half decent car and he'd be a contender for the championship

VkmSpouge

Personally I would like to have Alan Morrison make a comeback. He's competent and quick driver who simply never got the funding to go further in touring cars. He should have got more than his single BTCC win for Honda.

So you're saying that Nigel Mansell is out of the question? :p :

For those of you who have wished to see Stefan return......so do I!and i thank you for not forgetting him.
Its damned hard for me to swallow it,but without a decent budget, nothing can happen.
Unfortunately, the days are long gone when talent and a smidgen of budget can advance a career;easier in my day?perhaps, but still lots of bullying had to take place!
Comforting is the fact that there are a couple of teams still looking at helping Stef,we will have to see if these are 'real' or not.
and Matt Jackson?....a good chance with a BIG surprise, but I wont steal his thunder.

Without a doubt Rickard Rydell and Kelvin Burt! Kelvin showed he still has the pace when he came back, erm was it a couple of races in 2005?

VkmSpouge
1st February 2007, 15:02
Burt did a couple of races in 2004 in a GA Motorsport Vauxhall Astra coupe. I believe Burt ran extremely well in it.

I was thinking of the time he ran in an Alfa, Vkm, do you (or anyone else!) remember when that was? Didn't he qualify really well, get into the lead and have mechanical problems? Or am I getting very confused... :)

Iain
1st February 2007, 17:40
Kelvin Burt? He raced at Silverstone in 2002 in a production class Alfa Romeo, standing in for the banned Gavin Pyper. He won both races that day.

Maybe you're thinking of Silverstone 2004 when he ran well in the reverse grid race until he got battered down the field.

Hello all
when I put this post up it should of said, who would you like to see drive in the BTCC, and now its raised its head again, I am even more interested to see who you guys want out there in 2007.

Many thanks for your time

BT

Dan Eaves, Anthony Reid, Paul O'Neil, Yvan Muller, and a driver not mentioned yet Warren Hughes, a guy who raced his socks off in the MG!

Rusty
2nd February 2007, 10:56
Dan Eaves or Anthony Read please get one of them driving with you...LOL

Robinho
2nd February 2007, 13:07
a name that comes up often in the "what are they doing now" threads is ex F3 champ Marc Hynes, i assume he quit racing when he couldn't get to F1, but he would be great in the BTCC, especialy in a RWD car

Iain
2nd February 2007, 13:11
He moved on to driver coaching and then did a bit of GTs for LNT. Can't remember if it was in their TVR or Panoz or both.

SEATFreak
3rd February 2007, 14:39
....and a driver not mentioned yet Warren Hughes, a guy who raced his socks off in the MG!

Quite right. Obviously we mention first guys like Reidy and Dan Eaves because they stand out as being better drivers, but we should not forget those that I feel tried really hard with little reward, if any.

If a list of say 5 drivers came to be as a team boss with enough funds to drive (irrespective of whether they actually do), and he was among them, Warren is the first guy I would seriously consider at the worst.

Iain
3rd February 2007, 19:43
He's the worst out of 5 hypothetical drivers?

captin 1 VXR
3rd February 2007, 20:01
jeff allam and mike smith and guy edwards !!!

j a as he just says it the way it is

mike smith never his falt but it was

guy edwards as he could always peddle a car

SEATFreak

He's the worst out of 5 hypothetical drivers?

With a misinterpretation like that, if you ever become PM gawd help us all!!!

I said nothing of the kind. It is clear I said at worst I would seriously consider him. Which is in essence saying I would certainly never reject him. First choice? No. Dan Eaves or Anthony Reid would be. But I certainly would not turn him away straight away. He did well against some great drivers in his time with MG. I even see from my record for the 2003 season him beating Yvan Muller and teammate Colin Turkington in Round 15 at Brands Hatch and back at Round 8 at Silverstone sharing the podium with Yvan and Thommo.

I just hope you see why I used to get so upset and frustrated now.

Just a reminder. Bert is a team boss, so sensible suggestions may have a real effect. For example, it is plausable that BTC could run Gavin Pyper, Oli Wilkinson and Simon Harrison, but not Tiff Needell.

captin 1 VXR
3rd February 2007, 21:31
why not tiff he can still give the young guys a run and also his feed back is still one of the best ... just think he helped tvr cars out .and also beat the ferrari test driver around the test track he had driven around 1 billion times befor :) . my thoughts was young ish guy with the welth of experince
