View Full Version : WRC.com is good.

After the last few years I would've thought that it could never be considered good, but this year they've certainly improved in some things.
I like all the free videos, and the way that they've already got videos of shakedown on the net.
I also like the way they have a map of the route available, and a way of getting live stage-end interviews for free (rally radio).
The only problem seems to be in the reliability of their splits etc, and if you were paying for that I would understand if you were angry.
Does anyone else agree with me here, that wrc.com is much better than last year?

Yes, of course, last year they were rubbish, now it seems they're getting somewhere :)

I disagree. Not only will it not let me watch the videos, but every single page on there insists on downloading and trying to play it.

The videos just keep loading and I get the dubious honor of looking at a blank screen for a few minutes. The site is disorganized and a pain when you're trying to look up information, then out of the blue, a video has downloaded and you can hear Petter talking about his latest excursion in a ditch.
WRC.com is not a very good improvemnt from last year. It's like going from Bud Light to Coors. Yuck!
I no likes da new website.

I agree with cosmicpanda.
The site is better, and provides Rally Radio for free, as well as splits for free.
I don't like the self loading videos either, so I turn them off. Sorted.

It is better than last year, but far from perfect. I like to see they have improved.

The site is clearly an improvement ... but it was hardly possible to have a worse site that what they had last year.
I like the TV clips and the stage/spilt-times, but I am missing a time-converter in the timetable.

Videos that I can't watch are useless to me. Thought it may have been just me for a while, until I tried at work as well.
Splits not working on the last stage yesterday were a pain as well.

Well, for me the new WRC.com website is good! Love to have a timetable, results and splits very near to eachother. The videos are good as well, a timeconvertor would be interesting, don't know what I would want more?

Exactly! The home page should not have videos that play automatically, it's a real pain over slow connection or via mobile phone. With T1 line site works just fine and the improvements people have mentioned have made the site much better but the usability sucks. So close but yet so far.

I still don't get sound on any of the vid's! Sucks so i don't bother! Rest of the site is fine but confusing at times! Perhaps a WAP or mobile wrc.com soon for those who have 3G phones and mobile internet? :d

Definetly I agree with you compared to what they were offering last years.
But as someone said above, they still have a lot of things to do. Some independent (or private) sites have got more accurate and updated information than wrc.com while it's the official site.
But they are in right direction.

being the official site wrc.com is quite crap in my opinion, even our newspapers are more informative, in my opinion, http://www.rallye-magazin.de and http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/ralli/ are quite good.

No way those sites are better, they might be more reliable and no doubt good sites, but if you look at the WRC.com layout and content they really put some thought and budget into it, its well organized and you get a little bit of everything in little space, you dont have to scroll down like two or three pages to see everything as in http://www.rallye-magazin.de/. I love the videos not only during rallies but also some of the features they offer sometimes, like the history of different rally cars etc... they were good. And by the way all the people that complain about the self playing videos, loading and that stuff its just because they either lack the abilities to do a good configuration in their browsers and computers or don't have a good internet connection and they are angry about that LOL (if you have both and still complaining, well your computer must suck(or be a mac) or your just sad) Mine did not work at the beginning but after doing some configuration is great.
the only site that I like more even though I don't understand any Czech is ewrc.cz, its just amazing

Well our papers aren't!!
What Rally? What WRC? Oh wait a minute, - 'obscure rally', 'a low key rally'. Even the BBC website just has a link to wrc.com, they don't bother themselves wasting time on a minority low interest sport!

Well having upgraded my PC over recent weeks I finally got around to visiting wrc.com a few minutes ago. Now I can actually see the videos they look good....until it stutters to a halt because they are too big, and it just messes up completely.
Can't say that I haven't given them a chance but I won't be back............

One thing that WRC.com had for a few years but no longer have is the live splits. The splits that they have now you have to keep refreshing the page to get the new drivers that enter the stage, you had might aswell wait until you get the completed stage times. Though the live splits was playing up towards the end of last season.
if you want to complain about newspapers, occasionally my local will publish day two results and nothing else, not even the final result.

Auto-refresh is bad for usability and I am glad that wrc.com has abandoned it.

No, not with Firefox 3, but I haven't downloaded it yet. But I've never had a problem with Firefox 2. However I have with Opera 9.5 and Apple Safari - didn't play the videos.

According to the puff story yesterday, they'll present 14 champions. Since names are not known beforehand, I wonder who are the two champions that have been left out? It would stand to reason that they are the two champions still active in WRC, Solberg and Loeb.
So far, they've gone in chronological order (Waldegard 1979, Rohrl 1980 & 82) so next ones ought to be Vatanen (1981) and Mikkola (1983). My vote will go to Hannu.
its part of a full one hour highlight that was previously shown on itv4, pretty nice, i won't spoil it. i have to agree waldergard and rohrl are some of the most perfect drivers. looking at some of the drivers in the past, I don't think the numbers don't means everything when it comes down to raw driving talent.
