When I first heard Gigi has a full calendar this year, I hardly stayed in my pants. When I heard he has a full calendar with Ford, I definately didn't stay in my pants. :bounce:
When the season started, I saw a totally different Gigi. Carefull, smart and consistent Gigi who backed off, based on he needed to learn the car before pushing (over)maximum. Teambosswise very good strategy which has even payed off.
One question though.
For how much longer he need to learn the car ???
I want that airhead over the top Gigi back with hugely wide lines and impossible brake points. I want to feel Gigism again. I want spectacle !!! I want Hullu Gallo back.

He's gonna have to move to another team to fulfill your wishes! Ford isnt the place for flamboyance just results..

But he is still driving, ... and getting good results overall. And I got his old videos on the iPod ....B-)

Let him continue to drive the way he is, new car, new team it'll take sometime but he will eventually get back into his Hullu ways!

At this point of his career, it will be hard to push so hard to risk everything. I mean ppl know Gigi can drive but also have seen him driving quite a while. So pushing to the limit is good for fans but mistake may be very costly as the team managers and sponsors may start to think "why is he not getting smarter?" Afterall he's not young and need result to stay in WRC. Hopefully he'll find the balance between maximum attack and holding back for results.

Don't think so. I think it's finally twigged with Gigi that the best way to get results is to drive fast and neat rather than fast and ragged. We saw Gigi calm down a bit when he lost the Lancer seat and the 307 lifeline was thrown. Now I think he realises that the Focus is his last chance and he's doing fairly well I'd say

Just saying what I think ;) You either have fast Gigi or crashed Gigi. I know which one Gigi would prefer :)

Yep, the change when he was in the 307 was clear to see then, and he has smartened up again with the Stobart drive

Under Mr Willson it doesn't work like that. I am afraid you won't see that any more unless he changes team.

When asked about his Mitsu Gr.N times, Gigi says that he won't even recognize himself driving ...
He was racing rallies hoping to give people the best possible show, like his idol Colin (and I think he was succeding in that).
Now he is doing the "job", following team orders and developing as a driver to deliver manu points.
Unfortunately that means no more show for the crowds. He will never destroy tyres in the hairpins or make 60mt jumps again, can't risk to damage the car ...
He was so boring to watch in Monte (except in the SSS), but he finished the rally for the first time in his life.
In Jordan he was trying to push and no good times. Wilson suggested him the correct style to adopt (more 'fluid' and less raging), and scored 3 consecutive SS wins.
Back in 2005 I laughed to the critics of Gigi (for his crashes and no good results at all), because they couldn't understand what he was doing.
Gigi was so great to watch back then (see youtube video in my sign for example), I think nobody delivered that kind of show in the last 5-6 years.
Should we blame Mitsubishi withdraw for the loss of the flamboyant Gigi ? ...

maybe the question is, what use for a team is to have a driver who drive wide lines but never scores, maybe galli has understood this all by him self while standing watching on the bank when others drive.

Thing is Helstar. I now respect Gigi a lot more. He is now a quick driver who with a bit more time in the car I'm sure will get some good results. Perhaps there is only so long you can rally purely to please your fans until you have to go out and get the results for yourself and prove that you are a top level rally driver. I'd rather see a driver using every inch of the road to get as much speed out of the car as possible rather than seeing a driver use all of the road to regain control of his car because he's not in control of it.

Gigi was a quick driver whilst at Mitsubishi (unfortunately the car didn't support him) Now his speed is decided by his Team...that's very sad

Fast but not consistent. He's worked on the consistency though.

I don't understand why it isn't possible to be spectacular and stay on the road, but maybe I don't watch enough WRC nowadays.

It is possible.... but you won't be quick enough to score good points in the WRC while driving like this. Maybe you can win at ERC level and still make the speccies cheer, but I think WRC is just too competitive to allow for this sort of flamboyance.
Also the Ford looks to be rather fragile, so maybe not the best car to be in if you're hitting big rocks and bouncing through ditches.....

You just seemed to underline the fact Gigi had to chose between being fast or being consistent, not both... :mark:

I don't think Gigi showed the same speed he did in the Mitsubishi. I seem to remember him leading Turkey for a little while?

Ye... the stages were totally full of mud, and the Pirelli tyres worked very fine there ... the total highlight for me was in Sweden 2005 where his performance in day 1 was defined "paranormal" !
But in both rallies the car had serious mechanical problems (I remember the turbo in Turkey), so he scored late positions after losing many minutes :\
I remember that Isao Torii used to apologize in the japanese style in front of Gigi lol
Also good tarmac performances in Germany (great battle with Kresta) and Spain but he crashed right after an SS win due to a wrong note in the end ^^

Perhaps Gigi will be one of those guys who when we look back on his career we will wonder what he could have done with a faster and more reliable car in his earlier days.
Only time will tell.
