Finally got a big one with about 15 to go. Lots of great saves by Shrub again today. He and the 26 almost caused the big one before it actually happened but they saved.

You know I would not be surprised if Montoya won this race.

18 wins. Not sure what the finishing order was because of that huge wreck.

Montoya pulled a fast one on Jeff Gordon, i think he would have got the chance to do the same to Kyle Busch

Am I imagining things or was Jr. getting really aggressive the last 25-30 laps and basically just taking people out? Looks like he started 2 wrecks including the one that took Stewart out. BTW if anyone wants a good bet put money on 88 in the lead with 50-75 to go and then not winning. If only NASCAR had shorter races.

Everyone was too agressive at the end of a race.

And KY (as I often call him) was clearly below the line when he passed Johnson. You can say Johnson forced him down, but he was already below the line and starting to pass him when they made contact.

All in all, I think this was a very good race. It would have been great if not for a lot of dumb mistakes at the end.

I thought Montoya was doing well right up to the point he took out the #15. I'm suprised he didn't get a penalty for that. If he did move low because he was catching Menard up to quick, then why did he move back up before he was clear...

I'm not sure that the driving was all that aggressive - when you're running four-wide eventually someone is going to find a gap is not quite as wide as they thought. Looks great on TV, but all I was thinking for the last five laps was 'this is going to end in tears".

I survived another Dega race weekend. :p :

Never seen so much bump drafting going on. Jr's front bumper was a completely differently color at the end. I'll try to post my pics when I have time to resize them.

We were not able to get our usual cup garage passes so we settled for Busch garage passes and the chance that we could somehow hook up with someone there who could help us. I ended up helping Jeff Burton's motorcoach driver get this drivers helmet signed (by the cup drivers) for Jeff's brother who is auctioning it off to help a child who has cancer. (when I got Stewart to sign it, he was actually nice to me and even called me Ma'am. ) So his (Burton's) motorcoach driver met us at the front gate yesterday and escorted us inside the track and gave us some pit tour passes to at least get us into the cup garage for a few hours. Then I had to rely on my security contacts to make it after the garage went hot and then onto pitroad. Thankfully we were never checked. :D

I just didn't understand why they were going on about Montoya. If you look at the reply, Stremme drove into the back of Montoya, the car wiggles, goes below the yellow line - with stremme pushing montoya and then comes back up the track. As Montoya was being pushed, where was he supposed to go, the grass?

Ah, fair enough. The way the commentators told it at the time, JPM came off the turn too fast and went below the line to try and avoid Menard. Initially I didn't think he'd been pushed but that pic definitely suggests otherwise.

I know, I was shouting at the TV, 'Look at the damn reply, you can see Stremme pushing him"; DOH. :)

Somewhat off the topic of the thread sorry but i wonder how would the infamous talladaga race fans take to a toyota driving Kyle Busch fan from the UK!! I would really like to go to Talladaga this year or next year but i'm somwehat put off by the way the media portray the fans there as being more than a little crazy. Also when i read magazines like nascar illustrated there seems to be a growing xenophobia against foreign manufactures, foreign drivers is it going to extend to foreign race fans.Maybe i'm just being a little paranoid as ive been to 9 races and always had a great time and made to feel very welcome.

The stereotype of the intolerant redneck NASCAR fan is much overhyped. You usually find that NASCAR fans are just fellow human beings.

The issue of the xenophobia of NASCAR fans against a "foriegn" manufacturer doesn't seem to have materialized as many had hoped and prayed for.

You will be fine. I went to my first NASCAR race this year and the fans are great.

Talladega is more about being one big party of race fans rather than "rednecks against foreign auto makers". Heck, the Honda plant is just an exit or 2 up interstate 20. Being that my husband is employed there, he would be thrilled if Honda joined the NASCAR world. (only a fool would say it is not gonna happen)

Back to the question.... people have come from all over the world to experience Talladega racing. I doubt it matters to the avg race fans where the person sitting next to them came from and would more than likely share their beer. ;)

I personally think Denny Hamlin had the fastest car. (Of course the fastest doesnt always win the race) Im no big Hamlin fan but he spent a large part of the race with the nose of his car under the leaders back bumper.

Great race ! Gibbs cars all looked great . Congrats to all #18 fans , Wild thing is such a good name for little Busch. He flat out drives it like he stole it , is he the most tallented driver in NASCAR ? Roush cars seem to to all run well, Did anyone ever figure out the "loose wheel/tire going down" feeling all Rousch cars were feeling about mid run ? I felt sorry for Biffle , another perfect driving performance and finishes 40th.
