Hoping some tech savy guys on here might be able to offer some advice..

We finally chose the new powerplant for the new Grp4 Escort, its a JRE (John Reid Engineering) long stroke, 2.3 Vaux XE 16V, all steel internals, Big valve touring car head running on Jenvey TB's through a fully programable DTA ECU and produces 293bhp with aprox 230lb/ft torque.

The ECU has been mapped but Im gonna build a carbon fibre airbox which will remove hot air scavenging and add a degree of Ram effect at higher speeds.

Q- Will this Ram effect be significant enough to create a dangerous lean burn situation at higher speeds of 100-120mph ?

Significant enough to warrant adding an air flow meter (as per turbo'd engines) to the intake, overlaying the standard map with the airflow map to make it 3 Dimensional ?

I doubt it will be required but I'd just like to be sure..

Thanks.

The only way to know for sure is the use of an onboard wideband O2 sensor and data logging. There are way too many variables to predict how it will flow at different speeds.

I'm assuming that the engine build does not use a mass air sensor but rather a speed density system?

We havent recieved delivery of the engine yet all I know is that the ECU is a DTA "pro" model, here are the capabilities of the most basic model... so it will have a manifold presure map at least..

Engine Configuration

20,000 rpm capability
Flexible and easily adapted to different OEM, crank, cam sensor arrangements.
Genuine four and two stroke support.
Twin injector engines.
Semi - sequential injection.
wasted spark or distributor.
User controlled fan activation.
Sensors can be calibrated individually with a lot of preset options supplied.
Flexible Tacho Output
