When I view the forum, it's a little too wide for my screen, so that I have to scroll back and forth to read a post.

How do I rectify this?

What's your screen resolution?
For me a normal thread view is around 900 pixels which with my Opera layout gives me 30 pixels extra on both side.
If you have a 1024 wide resolution, you should have no issues.

Have you tried any of the other forum display modes? I'm using worldmotorsport.com now. I've not had any problems with this.

The motorsport.com theme is width-restricted if that's any help

It appears that Autoracing1 is also width-restricted.

Even though it isn't width-restricted I like the Default Style best.
I'm running 1024 wide resolution on my 17" monitor so I could use any style.

I like the Worldmotorsport style because it is dynamic. It fills the screen on my Dell 30 Monitor. I am still tinkering with the resolution, but at 2560 x 1600, too many things are too small. Tonight, I am running at 1280 x 800 and it looks very good.

Running at 1280x800 kinda defeats the purpose of having a 30" monitor :p

Not in the least. Try it on yours and let us know.

Size isn't the point :) The whole point of getting a 30" display is so you can have a more detailed picture and photos are more detailed and games look better :) The crappy little 17" Dell CRT here is running @ 1280x960 so even though it's a fraction of the price I'm getting a far better picture than you are :)

That's not what my lady says. LOL.

There are many reasons to have a 30 inch monitor, and for some applications, I run 2560 x 1600. The NVida also has 2 HDMI outputs, and for other applications, I run it to my 1080p TV.

You pays your money and you makes your choices.

Ok fair enough :) I was worried the text was too small so you took the res down permanently.

Working with Photoshop - I go to the max res. Working with MS Word or playing on this forum - half max is great - I can sit wayyyyyy back and hold the keyboard in my lap. FWIW, I cannot say enough positive things about this monitor.

Why?

Dell monitors are decent because they're just rebranded version os other monitors and there's little difference between an Apple Cinema 30" and a Dell 30" of the same spec other than packaging.

But Dell PC's are basically built as cheap as possible which is why the prices are so low.

Dell monitors = BMW. Not as good as a Ferrari or a Porsche but good enough and built well enough.
Dell PC's = Kia, Hyundai, Lada or Daewoo. Built well enough to drive out of the factory and run for a while but anything after the warranty period runs out is a gift.

Here's an excellent example of Dell quality and quality Dell customer service :)

Dell monitors are decent ... <snip>

I've read similar stories about all of the major brands. I'm not going to get into a he said/she said discussion on this topic. Thanks.

I have the same thing too.

I believe that the width of the last version of the forum was a percentage (ie 95% of visible width), whereas this new version is a fixed size - hence the scrolling.

Do you have the problem with all of the display modes?

Since the upgrade, the forum no longer fits into an IE window unless that window is maximised, so I have to scroll left and right all the time just to read a sentence.

But basically, you should maximise your screen.

But basically, you should maximise your screen.

That's not the correct answer though.
A correctly-coded website should fit the width of the window.

viper_man
22nd January 2007, 20:36
It may not be the correct answer, but its the most reasonable from a non techie like me! :p

Someone should know what to do, its got to be something to do with settings or something. Have you checked in the User CP for any relevant options?

Hazell B
22nd January 2007, 20:48
Speaking of non-techies, you lost me at "maximise your screen" :dozey:

I looked in the UPC and couldn't work out why nothing fitted, so simply switched to autoracing1.com and it's loads better.

tintin

Autoracing1 style still doesn't fit for me.
It's just less yellow...

AndySpeed

Firefox seems to be able to display a non-maximised forum page to a certain extent, although it depends on whether you have the window really small or just 'smaller'.

J4MIE

I only use the world motorsport one because it is less obvious when my boss walks past at work.

Reading the pages from this forum logged out fits my screen but logged in doesn't. I tried changing the resolution as suggested by some but that didn't help. The only thing that seems to work is changing the zoom level from 100 to 95%. But what a PITA it is changing the zoom level every time I'm logged in. I've also tried the different setting in the used CP and that did nothing for me.
