I din't feel I did well but I feel I am up on the last two years in the first race of the opening meeting at Brands Hatch.

I was 23rd for race 1 but was 55th last year and way down in 93rd in 2006.

Not so good for races 2 and 3. My best for race 2 was last year when I got 21st. This year I was 31st and was way down in 67th in 2006. And as for race 3 by best was 12th in 2006 because I was 58th this year and 88th last year.

Should do better at Rockingham. I was 80th, 40th and 61st last year for rounds 4,5 and 6.

1 52 and 9 not bad i suppose :)
3rd in championship must be a fluke because im normally like 169th in the championship :)

SEATFreak
7th April 2008, 14:32
I cannot seem to access the championship standings because a page comes up saying "The webpage cannot be found" but I suspect I am not that good in the championship standings.

Incidentally what are the points based on for the championship standings? The total of the Championship Points? The "Championship Points" column beside "Race Points" goes up in increments of 2. For race 1 I got 180, for race 2 I got 170 and 143 for race 3. Totting those up it comes to 493.

I don't know where that places me but I suspect those like Phil H who seem to get lots of winners (green) and lots of correct placings (yellow) will have a lot more than me. I suspect I will be no higher than about 20th.

Mark

My fault there. You should be able to access the championship standings now.

SEATFreak

Your forgiven. :)

Actually I am glad I had to wait. Good things come to those who wait. And looking at my position, which is 37th, I am really in not that bad a place after the first 3 rounds of the season. Opportunity for improvement. Plus I think more importantly it is all about progressing steadily; pacing yourself and not to worry when a race doesn't go according to the selection you chose. Race 3 didn't go well for me but I am comfortable with the other two.

For those who take it quite seriously like I do, no good being too high too early. I think you can sort of feel you have put pressure on yourself to try to maintain the good form. And I think it is that pressure that can lead you to begin to lag behind in the standings.

No such pressure I think can exist if you just take things nice and easy and not to rush.

Also I think if you look closely at the standings theirs few pairs of placings that are several points apart. I am level with AndySpeed but only one behing jack marsh and Wasted Talent. So I think it is very possible to make good ground fairly quickly at this point in the season. It looks like the gap betwen 6th and 7th is the largest in the standings.

A third place for race 1 and a win for race 2 is a great achievement for a brand new season.

Sometimes it seems like pickems is just random chance, but yet when you look through the results in some series you say the same people being highly placed or winning time and again, so there is definitely a skill to it!

BTCC is probably the hardest pickems because although there are 30 scored events there are only 10 chances to make your picks, and picking three races where one of them is a reverse grid isn't easy. If the driver your picking for 1st crashes in the first race you could lose points for 3 events!

A lot of people seem to just pick according to the results of the last race, just look at F1, after Australia, everyone picked Hamilton, after Malaysia, everyone picked Raikkonen. But they were wrong both times!

Mark
9th April 2008, 12:27
There was a slight bug in the system which meant that points were not correctly allocated for 8th position. The results have now been recalculated, so go back and check, although it won't have made a big difference as points in 8th are small.

14th, 17th & 42nd for Rockingham. Don't seem to be dramatically heading in either direction (up or down - I am one of only 4 members to hold his place; your another Vkm.), which is good. But I can see I didn't do as well at correctly predicting the actual correct placings.

Natually theirs points awared to those who get a driver in the top 8, it appears how much depends on how close you get to that paticular place, but the scoring system for correct placings goes 10-9-8-7-6-5-4 & 3.

At Brands Hatch I correctly predicted Matt Neal to finish 3rd in race 3 and DT 4th in race 1. Which obbviously earned me 8pts and 7pts respectively.

But at Rockingham I correctly predicted Tom Onslow Cole to finish 7th and Turks 6th. Which only gave me 4pts and 5pts respectively.

Which is why one aim is to emulate only four others on that score. CaptainVXR, SuperDave2008, COD and VIKI006. They are the only members to get 3 in sucession so far.

Disastrous for me. I started of OK with a 24th but in the final 2 I got a 51st and a 66th (second bottom).

I am at a loss to explain. I only didn't put Jase in the top 8 because I expected the Leons to do as well as they did to at Brands and The Rock. Not because I didn't want him to finish in the top 8 or do well.

SEATFreak
19th May 2008, 08:13
I have won a race before; even if I haven't led the Championship before.

The first time was race 2 at Brands Hatch in 2006 and race 2 at, ironically, at Thruxton last year when they went to Hampshire the first of the two times. My previous best was a 4th at Oulton last year when I came 4th. Imagine my delight when when I saw for the first time just now I havce come 3rd in race 3.

However on the downside, had DT come second I would have had 39 race points which would have put me top because not only did I correctly predict Jase to win, I also correctly predicted, and for the second time, Giovanardi would come 3rd and Neal to come 4th, having correctly predicted Tom Onslow Cole would come 7th. Effectively the top 4 would have been spot-on with another correct Top 8 finish for Cole.

Still I am up 8 places in the Championship to 20th.

Can I just ask....who is confident going to Croft?

I reckon in places I am. I am not really confident, strangely, about Tom Onslow Cole being third and am now starting to regret a little picking him as low down as third considering how he raced at Thruxton. Nor am I as confident about my 4th placement for DT now as I was at the time. He has been 4th three times but I don't think it likely a 4th will be achieved at any time for the third meeting in a row.

But I am confident Jase ought to keep up the utterly sensational performance he put in, in race 3 at Thruxton and come, not first, but second. I also have Jackson as top Independent. The circuit seems to suit the 320si better than the petrol Leon in starting as last season proved.

Massively dissapointed that I didn't put any works SEAT in the top 8. Reason being I did everything as correst as I believed. I looked at Oulton and made an informed decision based on that.
Problem is my beloved SEAT team are so unpredictable ad inconsistent.

In terms of any two results they can be as different as chalk and cheese two; despite dominating qualifying both times.
Last time out at Outon they dominated qualifying but in race 3 neither finished in the top 8 because Jase finished 9th and DT finished 16th. This time they dominate qualifying and they do much better.

Still, you live and learn.

Yeah. I just saw the result for round 22 and I am very impressed. A massive well done and a congrats thrown in for good measure to ya' mate. The top 4 absolutely correct. I just cannot recall a time when it last happened.

Alexmateo, djarumdudley and KILHOHMUNNS got the top 3 right for rounds 1, 5 and 17 respetively but nobody has got as many in the top 8 as 4 before.

You are of course one of the top Pickers being 4th in the standings an just about 3pts shy of Mattie007. I don't know if your good for the championship but I think is any of the three above you have more than one bad race I am sure you could be in with a shout.

Anyone care to offer what possible odd you could give Andy for winning the Championship?

Alexmateo is my bet - lead the championship from rd 2!

1. Alexmateo 4480
2. AndySpeed 4416

You would have to say that the gap could get unasailable if Alex has a better weekend in the competition than Andy. But Andy did win 2 of the Knockhill races. I don't think that has ever been achieved before.

On my situation I am over the moon I am up to 15th (a rise of 2 places). I am higher than more experienced members that I have always wanted to be and emulate. VkmSpunge for example is down in 27th. The utterly great mine of information and experience that is BDunnell is down in 36 (down 1 place). I hope to only improve on my situation.

How? What is the basis for the points system for the competition?

It is just that in 10th in the standings I am clearly well in the hunt then if everyone from 18th+ is out of the competition.

You get 250 points for a win. With 3 races to go that's a total of 750 points up for grabs. Therefore everyone who is more than 750 points behind by this stage no longer has a mathematical chance of being the winner.

If you look on the championship table then those who have their points shaded in dark blue are out of contention.

Alexmateo is my bet - lead the championship from rd 2!

Seeing as how I have no wins, I'm strokin' my way to the Championship. :D
(Hey!, Isn't that why Nascar has the chase!)

Seriously, I think I am leading here because I pick based on drivers results and past races etc. I dont have a vested interest as a fan. In the Nascar pickem's where I am a fan, I'm mired in 12th. I'm sure its because I let being a fan influence my picks, I'll pick Dale Jr to win way more often than I should, and won't pick Kyle Busch to win because I can't stand him (naturally he has the most wins. :dozey: )

In any event Good Luck to my fellow competitors this weekend, AndySpeed's gonna be tough to beat, and Lodekka and c8nay have an outside shot. I don't think anyone else has a real shot to win.

Good Luck to everyone :) Love the pickem's Mark!
