Wow, so far 5 of the top 10 are the "transition" group. And Darren Manning up there too. Plenty of time to go in FP1 so I'm sure this will change.

JWilson fastest at the moment, although they are a few seconds off last years pace so far...

Looks like they're taking their time getting up to speed. I'll be heading down to the track in a few minutes myself.

I wasn't going to go until later but they ended up waking me up anyway. :p

Weird, It was quiet for a while and then they all starting going at once it sounded like. Think they're practicing standing starts?

Edit: No, they're just all going out at once.

Great to see the CC teams running so well, even at the front. Clearly they will competitive and perhaps Wilson and Rahal finish in the top 10 if not top 5.

Looks like Wilson is running more downforce, he's slower through the traps but faster through low speed.

Very competitive, 8 different teams in the first 10.

I think most of their problems at homestead are due to be unfamiliar with the aerodynamic package. Not as much a factor on a street course.

Top 5:

Mutoh
Power
Castroneves
Perera
Mar Andretti

Kanaan and Mutoh currently in the wall.

Anyone know if the Delphi Safety Team is the old CC safety crew? If I remember correctly the ICS used the city/track provided safety crew.

Team
45 safety personnel – 15 of whom attend each event (3 paramedics, 9 firefighters/EMTs, 2 trauma doctors, 1 safety coordinator). Team members have an average of 20 years experience.
The Delphi Safety Team utilizes state-of-the-art equipment, including three Honda Ridgeline safety trucks and a Honda Pilot command vehicle. Each vehicle is equipped with the latest Delphi electronics, including a dashboard warning-light system that notifies safety team members of yellow track conditions, and two video cameras. One camera faces backward, providing the safety truck driver with a clear view of vehicles approaching from the rear, while the other faces forward, capturing images of an accident scene for future review. The images also are transmitted to video monitors in the command vehicle and personnel in the infield care center.
Each truck is outfitted with Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools, DeWalt 24-volt reciprocating saws, firefighting equipment, and materials for cleaning up fluid spills.
The Delphi Safety Team is divided into three teams. When an on-track incident occurs, the first team to arrive at the scene is responsible for the driver and his safe extrication from the car, if necessary. The second team begins track cleanup at the area of impact. The third team makes a lap around the track to check for fluids that might have been dropped in the incident.

Watching Roth go off and then stall it again after being restarted was pretty funny.

Forecasts are expecting rain tomorrow and Sunday. Should be fun.

Wow, i knew the champcar teams would do better on the road courses but to have 4 of them in the top 10, wow, i didnt think they would be this well up there. And to think they've had just about a month with this car as well, amazing.

Pretty good for a so called "club series"!!!

5th April 2008, 03:19
I'm well chuffed that the Champ Car old boys have done so well here, I was not a particular fan nor critic of either series either way - but I am a fan of talent rising to the top and it certainly appears to be here, whether the drivers or teams were in the IRL or CCWS previously.

Wilson topped practice 1 which I'm pleased about - nationally biased of course :)

Also notice Danica is nowhere. Let's get some talent in the 4th AGR car, screw affirmative action.
