Is it just me? The new live timing page for practice doesn't seem to refresh automatically.

Sorry. Seems to be doing something now. Maybe it's just my ancient laptop.

Anyone remember the live race website that Champ Car had a few years back it showed a horizontal grid of the cars and each was assigned a different color. A trace would appear to the right of each entry and move to the right as each lap was completed and up and down as position changed for that car. You could, as I remember it, turn on or off traces for certain cars. I really liked it. Some folks complained it was "too busy" , but it was VERY informative.

I remember it and I enjoyed it tremendously, especially when I was at work and was able to catch quick updates. Does the IRL website offer a free service?

Apparently not. But it does look like on their "pay service" they offer several different in-car views and they do have what appears to be something VERY similar to the interface i was describing. There is a demo of it on the www.indycar.com (http://www.indycar.com) site. One thing I noted was that the broadcast race coverage is NOT included on their site. So that eliminates that as an option for our brethren overseas who used to use the OWRS "Race Director" for viewing a race in locales that lacked coverage.

From what I remember of the complaints about "Race Director"...it wasn't really ready for prime time...

Well, after following the race on the Web, I'm very disappointed with the new live timing.

Black type on two shades of gray doesn't "read" well. What was wrong with the "green for up / red for down" color coding? The refresh is inconsistent and delayed. The turn-to-turn intervals are not helpful, especially if they're not always shown for all drivers and current.

I may be in the minority, but I felt that the old setup was superior for just following the race.

It was good for 4 or 5 years then last year .... pfffft! Went to hell in a hand basket ... whatever that means.

The old setup is still here.

Thanks for the link to the old system. The new system bogs everything down to a crawl, or to a stop. I am on a MAC so cannot use new Race Control. TS was useless today. Hopefully the old system will word for St Pete.
