The Oval test for teams transitioning to the IRL this year, and Roth Racing, will begin tonight. We can expect 11 cars on the grid; 2 NHLR, 2 KVRT, 2 DCR, 2 Conquest, 2 Roth Racing, 1 HVM.

Seeing the times on the oval tomorrow night will be interesting to see where they will stack up with the IRL guys.

I'd be willing to bet Servia and Bruno will be up near the top of the timesheets due to their experience on Ovals.

Interested to see how Roth Racing does.

I'm happy to see one advantage for the CC teams that they will be testing in the afternoon and night time which will give them preparation for the Homestead race which will be run at night. Sort of evens out the field a tad bit.

since the IRL teams tested at homestead at the same time of day (afternoon into evening) last month the CC teams will gain no advantage from the time of day they are testing.

Why is roth racing testing too? Marty Roth was at the first test and was slowest on the time sheet over a second behind wheldon who was fastest over the two days.

I have no objection to jay howard testing as he wasn't at the first test, but marty shouldn't have the advantage of an extra test that no other teams are getting!

Looks like we're about to begin. Before I go to timing and scoring, I figure I'd leave the results from the IRL day 2 results on 2/28. Here's some times to shoot for:

Testing times – Homestead Miami Speedway (28 February):

Danica Patrick Andretti Green 25.0772secs 213.182 mph
Ryan Briscoe Penske 25.0920secs 213.056 mph
Dan Wheldon Ganassi 25.1009secs 212.980 mph
AJ Foyt IV Vision 25.1059secs 212.938 mph
Scott Dixon Ganassi 25.1163secs 212.850 mph
Hideki Mutoh Andretti Green 25.1463secs
Helio Castroneves Penske 25.1698secs
Tony Kanaan Andretti Green 25.2326secs
Ed Carpenter Vision 25.2841secs
Marco Andretti Andretti Green 25.2948secs
Vitor Meira Panther 25.3520secs
Ryan Hunter-Reay Rahal Letterman 25.4169secs
Buddy Rice Dreyer & Reinbold 25.4686secs
Milka Duno Dreyer & Reinbold 25.5604secs
Darren Manning Foyt 25.5932secs
Marty Roth Roth 26.0641secs

I had to piece these together from 3 different sites, lol. I should just use the "search" function next time :)

I think these are the combined earlier homestead results (they are a bit different from what you have):

This is probably the best place for timing reports:

This is from the Track Side Online (http://www.tracksideonline.com) update from the 2nd day of Homestead testing

Marty Roth hasn't been out in quite a while and ran just 7 laps earlier in the session. So, we went back to the garage area and found Roth about ready to head home for the night after some installation laps.

This goes back to Jay Howard not getting enough track time Tuesday to finish his rookie test. Roth wants to run in traffic with Jay, but since Jay can't run here that can't happen. For that reason Marty asked the IRL if he too could run with the CCWS guys in late March.

The IRL said - yes, but then you can't run here. They allowed Marty the choice of this test or the March CCWS test. Since Marty wants to run at the same time as Jay for data gathering reasons and for running together in traffic, Marty has decided to pack it in for now and his crew is prepping his car for the road course testing at Sebring.

As of right now Roth would be 11th overall, between Carpenter and Vitor. Different conditions I'm sure, and not everyone has been out yet.

Looks like he's coming up to speed nicely. He's at 25.9880 after just 7 laps. That's already competitive, but I wonder if they are faster at night with the atmospheric pressure difference and cooler temps? Either way, he's .6 from the best lap so far and is looking good.

Bruno should have the top time, followed by Seriva. But, I would not be surprised to see Wilson or Power with the top times. Both are great drivers and similar to Seabass driving the ovals, I think they will adjust quickly. Unfortuantely, quality equipment/technological insight will be their biggest detriment when times are compared to the IRL drivers.

I am assuming that the companion IRL teams will be there to assist?

New teams complete first oval test

By Simon Strang Tuesday, March 25th 2008, 14:46 GMT

Australian Will Power proved fastest of the Champ Car converts on the first day of a special IRL oval induction test at Miami's Homestead speedway.

Eight of the nine former Champ Car entries confirmed for the reunified IRL IndyCar Series completed a combined total of 598 laps on Monday, alongside Roth Racing who failed to make the open test in February.

The Champ Car refugees, joined by Newman Haas/Lanigan drivers Justin Wilson and Graham Rahal, who missed last week's road course test at Sebring, were set a 195mph speed limit to begin with as they dialled-in their Honda-powered Dallaras, with the IRL increasing that limit as the test continued.

IRL president and CEO Brian Barnhardt commented afterwards that the first part of the test had gone smoothly.

"The teams are working awfully hard," he said. "We're getting close to event time and clearly track time and seat time is the most valuable commodity."

The test continues today with Bruno Junqueira joining for the second day with Dale Coyne Racing.

Former IRL part-timers Roth Racing, set the pace overall with team owner Marty Roth outpacing teammate Jay Howard.

The season begins at Miami's Homestead venue this weekend.

Yes they are. NHL won't be too bad off. DCR will have trouble since they will be again underfunded unfortunately and Moraes will not give them alot of luck.
