Any snow on stages?

Simmi
14th January 2007, 19:52
Hopefully someone can get down to the service park and get us a few early photos like last year. Am I right in thinking the Shakedown is still on the Thursday morning with the first stages being run in the evening? If so they (Petter) need to be cautious.

I'm waiting for snowy, thrilling rally which hopefully offer wider competition than just Marcus vs. Sebastien. Interested to see if Petter can fight against them. Also, how our boys Mikko, Jari-Matti and Toni will do :)

As usual I'm all excited for the start of the new season with all the new cars improvements and so on.

I really want to see what happens with the new Subaru and how the C4 compares with the Xsara.

I hope there are no spectator issues as previous years.

Sulland
15th January 2007, 18:33
Will be interesting to se the Solberg-klan in action

Petter with same tyres as the rest for the first time. Can only make excuses for tyres one more time - since this is the debut with them.

Henning in a competitive car for the first time. Will be interesting to see him on asfalt !!

Looking forward, even if I do not like Monte Carlo as a rally.

On the basis that there aren't any stages run in principality itself? In fact, this year is the first since 1997 that there is one but before that, no WRC edition of the event has had one. There simply isn't room in the tiny nation of MC for that. It really is "Rally of Southern France" but then again, who cares and besides, Wales Rally GB could as well drop the "GB" part if we go down that avenue.

Just saw an interview with Henning Solberg and Bosse on norwegian TV, Henning saying that he can learn much from Marcus. When Marcus was asked what he could teach Henning, he responded with one of his usual dry, funny answers - "Henning knows how to drive a car, the throttle is to the left, and the breaks in the middle." Pretty funny!

On a serious note, Henning said that he would be satisfied with a point, he's unfamiliar with the car (tested just once) and with tarmac rallies (just driven once in WRC).

I've driven SS10 this morning. Very narrow and completely wet. I think that worst than the snow would be temperatures dropping a lot beacause the whole SS would be on verglass (black ice) conditions, so almost impossible not to make any mistake. The scenary around the road is awesome, very beautiful so, a nice stage to watch.

Monte Carlo should be dropped if this keep happening!

I have said that for a long time. The rally is a dinosaur in this age and time and should be dropped. Tradition and history is well enough, but Monte has survived itself. Lets just make a bet how many stages will be cancelled tomorrow? 2, 3 or 4? It`s just a matter of numbers - and it won`t give great odds to predict that some hassle surely will occur. Agan...

Yes i completley agree. Monte Carlo has had this problem for many years now, and FIA keeps the rally because of its status, Monte Carlo has been in the calendar for quite a while now. Its a classic event. But if they cant solve and get rid of this problem, i think they have to consider throwing it out from the calendar!

I dont know for sure but I cant see that it would. The problem, as far as I can tell, with the Monte is that there is a minimal number of routes up to a stage, meaning masses of traffic, and once you get there you have to be pretty much right next to the track, as there is nowhere else to stand. From what Ive seen of the Safari its big wide open spaces.

Ive never been to either, I'm just going on what I've seen on the TV!

Can somebody translate this text please?

Thanks

"The return of the Montecarlo Rally to the roads of Ardeche, after 10 yearas of absence, it an event for all the fans of the rally and the discipline.

The affluence of spectators around Valence and on the stages has forced the organization to supress the shakedown. Which will take place between Mauves and Plats (on the D129 near Tournon) from 9 to 12.

The affluence of public and the dissorder it creates has caused the arise of new fears of incidents along the Rally. A very important presence of spectators on the stages is expected and feared by the organization"

Not perfect but you get the idea.

And Kenya/Safari was a long time tradition in world rallying and that didn't prevent Mr Mosley and Richards to get rid off this event !! How weired behaviour !!

from Rally Live (English)

The World Rally Championship pull in many fans, but this morning in Mauves, the rally was something a victim of its own success.

"Following the decision of the FIA delegate, and due to the abundance of spectators in the lower part of the roads, we have had no option but to cancel the shakedown," read a statement.

"In order to prevent similar cancellations of future events, we recommend that spectators follow scrupulously the advice given either by the security marshals or by any member of the organisation.
"

The official start of the Monte Carlo Rally takes place this evening at Champ de Mars gardens followed by two night stages in the Vercors.

No snow ! Temperatures are around 9°C in the morning and the evening, 11°C at 1 PM...
Snow may fall on Sunday on the real stages... When cars will be in Monte-Carlo for the Mickey Mouse Stage !

Er, but i mean like back when you watch, or who ever was in the Era of Group B, you see spectators standing on the roads, in Greece or Finland or the UK and they run out of the way of the rally car, well I know it's not safe and I know it's stupid to say, and having too many people is bad, but you should enjoy the rally at a safe distance but not be forced to stand a great deal away from watching. I hope Daniel doesn't get into this, I've heard it before so I don't want to argue.

Well it seems that C4 is very fast on asphalt. Loeb and Sordo flying. It could be that Sordo is only who can put any pressure on Seb in this rally. Let's see bit more..

Is it for real that Loeb completed a 28km long stage in 14 minutes? That makes average speed over 120kph....

Seb said after the shakedown that the night stage were extremly fast, bordeline dangerously fast. So I guess the speed is right

I don't think Sordo will put any pressure on Seb.
He's under his wing and will score as much points as possible but not beating Loeb... just in case he could.

I wish I'm worng though

Seb had harder and cut tyres, let´s see what happens on the next stage.
In Finnish MTV Juuso Pykälistö, Citroen´s test driver, said that these tyres are not best for SS 2.
