That's the setup I intended on testing, thanks for showing me that it actually works. :D
My driving was disastrous on thie stage, I'm slowing down where I shouldn't. That's why I'll be taking the shorter gearbox, and not tannat's +1. If I slow down too much, I won't lose time to get back up to speed. It's the same for long corners, with a long gearbox I tend to run out of power.

As a shakedown only setup you are correct. However for the rally be certain to go to +1 or you will be kicking yourself as you bump the rev limiter in 6th on SS8 ;)
And damned if I can find any benefit from running anything from 0 though -5 for suspension. No diff in times or in subjective feel from my perspective..

The biggest difference is you can change direction quicker without excessive lean with stiffer suspension...to me the car does what I want it to straight away. That's very important on the stages that twist their way through the village.

I'm just seeing no diff in my times with the mods, or getting better feel.
I need to experiment with this a bit.
Handbrake is quite handy through the village.. ;)

Gigi Galli: "Tannat! How are you my friend! Why don't you buy me a drinK?"
Tannat: "Gigi-you know you still owe me 1000 Euros. Remembe the girl in Cyprus last year? Her father.."
G: "Yes, yes, yes-I remember. Next round when we are in Europe, okay? I'm waiting for a check from Pirelli."
T: "You're doing well this year, Gigi. People are actually going to begin describing you as level-headed if you are too careful."
G: "Yes-your advice has been good for me. And your assistance in the off-season... I am very grateful Tannat. I know in the past I have been somewhat reckless."
T: "Spain 2005-you should have it tattooed on your forehead."
G:"Yes, yes. I threw that one away, didn't I?"
T:"Just keep it steady, use the training I gave you, and this can be a big year for you."
G: "Yes. You are so right, Tannat. Hey-I must go. The Stobart crew has arrived. I wish you luck for the rally, okay?"
T: "1000 Euros in Jordan, okay?"
G: "Yes, Tannat. I not forget"

A far cry off our PB of 1:25.75. We're losing time in the twisty middle section.
Setup for our best time was suspension -5, gearbox 0, brake bias -3, brake power +3, steering +5.
Perhaps steering is a bit too fast. We'll have a look...

Yep, sadly you're right, every year Sweden is the rally with most entries, then they drop slowly and in mid-season rallies it's usually half of what it was in Sweden.
but we can always hope this year will be different!

Do 555 even sponsor Subaru nowadays?
Jso, did you get my times?
I had to do my rally early.
Day 1:
Bugger of a way to start the most diffficult rally of the season, very slow on the 1st stage. A nice high speed slide at 180k's on stage 2 with no damage. Stages 5 & 6 were done on dry gravel tyres and it rained during both stages. How we set a PB on stage 6 I don't know! Stage 9 saw us slide wide into the trees and a slow roll right at the end of the stage! Stages 10 & 11 were just rotten, the SS I don't think we missed a thing. We hit the bridges, the barriers and the trees!
Day 2:
Started a bit better and went faster by 2 seconds on the 1st stage. Got stuck on hte rocks in stage 2 which forced us to roll and lost time. We picked up some time during the day and went pretty good up to stage 5 where it was wet again but we had the good tyres on this time. On stage 7 we went 4 secs faster than day 1! On the SS I went in too fast on the 1st bridge and clipped it and nearly put us into the creek! Lost too much time to worry about a place this time...
Man, what a tough time this weekend! We hit nearly everything on Day 1 and followed it up with some fast times on Day 2. Thanks to the mechanics who kept us going with a near fresh car after each service. Sorry for the damage. Will do better...

After arriving late in Mexico with the only Curtans RallyBase Motorsport car for this event I did shakedown this evening. My times:
1.32,51
1.35,07 (really all over the place in the twisty section)
1.36,91 (completely lost it at the final bend, straight into an advertising board)
1.32,89
1.31,51 (more sensitive steering)
1.30,94
Improved my previous PB on this stage by over 2 seconds so the setup tips in the recce thread seem to work for me. But judging by the times of others I'll be there only to make up the numbers again...

Finished the rally.
Day 1 started well...set two PB's on SS2 and SS3 and the C4 felt really good on the stage. Disaster struck on SS5 however, totally misheard a note and before I could make the corner I had to slam on the brakes and handbrake to avoid hitting the scenery. That meant spinning the car to get going again losing at least 5 seconds. Rest of the day passed without incident and we set a fast pace on the muddier stages
Day 2 thankfully went smoothly, no more mistakes and setting times with 1-2 seconds of our PBs. Not sure what effect the Day 1 spin will have as I think we were doing well up to that point. Looks like we might be relying on other people's mistakes or punctures to score a podium.

Prior to this event I have spend hours of testing the new Focus without a single roll, only a few spins and a few light impacts..
But wouldn't you know, second stage of the Rally and I go wide and roll the car two full rounds, not a single panel on the car goes unscaped.
Not exactly the debut I had hoped for, but two service stops later the car was back to it's original condition and I could attack for the remaining stages without any problems.
Much respect for the engineers of the new Focus, this will be a great season!

4th March 2008, 19:49
OK, I've finished. It was more than two years since I'd last seen those stages, and as there aren't many corners, you need to know these stage 100%. Another problem was my wheelbarrow, sorry, car. I spent more time ploughing through the muddy roadside then driving on the gravely bits. My times weren't great compared to those of last year's WRC participants, so I my only option was maximum attack. :s mokin:
Because I'm always after five stages, I decided to have a practice rally yesterday before doing the actual one. I'm very glad I did... Bad tyres for ss1-4, the times sucked! I go on stage three, which is nothing more than shifting to 6th, a bit to the left and right, braking, restarting, a sharp 90 right and that's it. I first lost three seconds because of crappy tyres on the first sections and then I binned it against a local tree. Nice. On stage 5 the car bounced sideways off a jump in 6th gear and crashed into a telegraph pole, then I go to the small bridge. I never knew there was a small rut on the inside, now I do. Took it, and crashed in 1st gear against the bridge, put it in reverse... and ended up three meters below into the river. I soldiered on to the super special where I missed my braking at the bridge, crashed in to the tires and rolled it. So much for practice, I was going to do the rally later, wasn't on form. :D
Today, rally time. Started with a decent set up, a few decent times but nothing shocking. I kept losing time on SS1/4 don't know why. SS5, not bad through the village, juuuuust missed the pole, very slow over the bridge. Had a big scare on the night stage. I turned into a left 3, too fast and saw nice white panel in front of me. I still crashed into it with the rear but after a bit of chicaning left-right I got it back as it should. Didn't crash off the superstage now. :D Day 2 went without a problem, car intact and ready for Argentina!
PS: JSO, isn't Argentina supposed to be non-mirrored? Because the next one is also ran on a mirrored version of Australia.

Hi
I'm new here as I only got the game this morning!
I just wondered if I could join your championship, although I admit I will not be good, but gearing up for next year.
I'd like to enter a Subaru Impreza 05, with a view to getting the new Subaru N14 when it is availible. If anyone wants me in their team let me know here, or if I can just enter first as a privateer that would be fine as well.
Like a few others have said, I'll have no time to be able to enter my results to jso by 15:59 tomorrow, so if the deadline could be extended to 23:59 tomorrow or Thursday that would be appreciated.
I'll post my Shakedown times in the next few hours.

ps29 was clearly pleased after he successfully completed his debut Shakedown in Mexico.
"I am just so happy to be here, so to set times that were comparable to quality drivers such as kabouter, rat and almost Will is far beyond my wildest dreams," he commented.
Seven laps were completed before the Subaru driver, who is still without a team, was entirely happy with the set up. "I found it very tricky through the twisty middle section, and the steering wasn't quite sensitive enough. I hope for more consistency come tomorrow."
He also added, "I hope that the organisers will allow me to enter slightly late given my situation. I'm not expecting anything other than last place, but the experience will be key to prepare for the second half of the season."
And on the topic of his team situation, ps29 commented that he is still 'looking for a team, but not desparately'.

Welcome ps29 :) But you're going a bit far calling me a quality driver...
Curtans RallyBase Motorsport driver kabouter was pleased to have finished his first Rally Mexico without major incidents: "Aside from some rocks that seemed to magnetically attract the car on stage 5 I kept the car on the road. We had a difficult start to the event, not finding a good rhythm. All the things that went right in testing were going wrong on the morning of the first day, there was far too much sliding around. The second part of the day went better, apart from hitting the rocks, and I think we got the right setup for the muddy stages in the evening. Day two was much better than day one, with times sometimes several seconds faster than on the first run."
When asked if team leader Magnus was still going to show up in Mexico kabouter replied: "He is a man who takes his holidays very seriously. He is not going to cut one short for something as trivial as a World Championship rally. But who knows, maybe the weather at Cap Verde is awful and Magnus might take a plane to Mexico. There's a car ready for him if he does."

welcome to the championship PS29! :) if you want to drive a Subaru, you could race for ARB racers, which is Steve0302's team, no need to ask him, I don't think he would mind having a team-mate!d, now if you want to run with kabouter's team, you have to do it with the Peugeot 206. anyway you can see the entry list at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/cmr2wc/files/ or in the CMR2 championship thread(maybe lost on page 2 or 3 in the forum), or if you run with your own team, please give us the name
As it was requested by 3 drivers, the deadline has been extended to Thursday 23:59 GMT, good luck!

I'll do the event tonight!! As soon as I get home from school.
We started to Rally Corona Mexico with the brand new Ford Focus WRC07 and it was really pleasure to drive for us.
Day1 - Steady beginning on SS1 - SS4, little sliding on sharp turns on SS5,then PB on SS6, some problems with suspension on SS7, but then PBs on SS9-11, great end of the day.
Day2- Better morning than yesterday, PBs on SS1 and SS4. After SS5 started rain, but we had a good tyre choice, so times were not too bad.
General impression from Mexico is excellent. New car ran very quickly and reliably, easy to find good setup for the gravel. Good work from all the team. Points are surely expected.
Great reading peoples! I can see we all went well in Recce, but lost the plot when we stepped up to the plate! Good Luck to all...Now if I can find my Team mate again, I'm sure I told him to meet us at the Team Hotel.

Reporter: "Hello Tannat. Bit off pace on the superspecial....."
Tannat: "Yes, we made a last minute setup change-a mistake. We will regret losing those seconds."
Reporter: "And how about the rest of the day?"
Tannat: "Overall a satisfactory day. This rally requires a measured approach, and it was a measured day for us. On some stages we could have been faster, mush faster, but we feel our caution will pay dividends at the end of the rally."
Reporter: "SS5 has caught a few out. How about you?"
Tannat: "In the village we came into a turn too fast. I tried to handbrake to bring around the rear, but we contacted a trash can and ended nose first into a barrier. Lost 3-4 seconds, no good."
Reporter: "Any other errors?"
Tannat: "A poor transition to tarmac on SS4 lost us a second, but aside from that a clean day."
Reporter: "With day one behind you any changes for day 2 now that you're the wiser?"
Tannat: "Perhaps a tire change for stages 5 and 6, and setup change for the superspecial. Otherwise we are quite pleased with the car."
Reporter: "Great. Perhaps we'll speak again tomorrow."

Hear me out and follow closely, but I think I've detected a bias of the CMR2 PC version over the PS1 version:
On stage SS6 at the watersplash using an automatic transmssion and identical setups in both cases with 100% throttle applied throughout:
-on the PC I enter the watersplash in 5th and leave in 4th
-on the PS1 I enter in 5th and leave in 2nd (sometimes 1st)
Anyone else care to share?
Marcel Haenen
5th March 2008, 13:03
I use manual gearbox on PC, I enter the splash in 6th and leave in 4th.
It matters were you hit the splash, in the middle it is the fastest. A little more to the side and I need to go down as low as 3rd or 2nd gear.
Juha
5th March 2008, 13:21
I enter it in the middle and have to get back to second gear. When looking to vid of the PC versions, I often have the idea that the PC cars are much faster. Tannat, you have both versions working, can you compare it on the first section of ss1? It's 100% tarmac, no braking required so it should give an idea of speed difference
I used gravel tyres during the the first 6 stages. Mud tyres aren't good enough.
The Suzuki makes a great rallycar, but a poor airplane....
Mine makes a damn good kangaroo too, hopping all over the place. :D

It's also a fact that stage times on faster PC's tend to get better than on somewhat slower PC's....decreasing detail (and therefore increasing framerate) also improves your stagetimes. We never got really sure about the reason for this, but I guess your input (steering wheel) is much better and faster applied in the game when you run the game on a faster PC or with decreased detail level.

I always have to put the details as low as possible (on my P-III 866 MHz PC) to have any chance of a decent stage time. Otherwise the framerate is so bad the car becomes undriveable. Sometimes, particularly on parts with many trees close to the stage, the frame rate still drops and I have to be extremely careful not to lose it. You all just wait until I get a fast PC... ;)
By the way, if Magnus doesn't show up before tomorrow, I don't think he'll mind you being his replacement, ps29. But it'll only be a one-off drive and you'll have to use the 206 WRC which is quite different to the Impreza handling-wise, or so I have been told.

Found out long ago about the fast line through here (middle).
Judging from the above I'd think it is fair to say it is faster on the PC version.
When I did my load on the PC I was given several options for the resulting quality. I wen tfor the best. Stages load very fast indeed.
I'll try to compare sector times and tease out the difference for that sector on SS6.
Juha-good idea except I'm using the keyboard on PC, and not certain I can give it the same input as on my PS1. I need to get my wingpad working. I'll have a go at it all the same....

I don't know if your suspension setting matters...I can imagine a stiffer setting (lower ride height) will slow you down a lot more than a looser setting. Of course this is irrelevant for the discussion on the difference between PS and PC...

Try it with automatic gearbox and the original setup, it shouldn't make a difference on that part of the stage as it requires minimal steering. ;)

just completed the rally, sending time card now
Don't have much hope for this event, crashed all over the place, the SSS had a massive couple, rolled down that straight and also bounced off those stupid blue tyre walls.
The night time stage wasn't that great either
All in all not a good event
pettersolberg29
5th March 2008, 18:34
I've just completed my first WRC event, and have to say I'm pleasantly surprised, but still not confident. The Subaru ran very well, and therfore I decided not to accept kabouter's offer of a one-off drive, but still await a response from Steve0302.
Day 1 started well, setting PBs on SS3 and SS5, and producing a flawless performance on SS6. However it all went wrong on SS7, as I rolled badly after clipping a rock early on, and after the stage was unable to fix my car fully, so crawled along the next stage. SS10 and 11 went without incident, before flying off the bridge on the SSS, and losing only 3.5 secs which was quite lucky!
Day 2 was much better, although in SS3 I got stuck in a ditch and lost about 8 seconds, but SS4 was very good and this was followed up by a PB in SS5 which is quickly becoming my favourite stage. SS6 wasn't as successful as the first run, but another PB in SS7 made up for it. SS8 ran efficiently, but I suffered major problems in the SSS again as I came last and lost about 9 secs after hitting a bridge post, spinning, and it being too thin to turn around quickly.
Overall though, hopeful of a reasonable run, as long as it isn't last I'll be happy.

You can find the time card in the Yahoo group of the championship (where you'll also find the official rules and calendar). jso will have to approve your membership first, before you can download anything. Go to: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/cmr2wc/

Marcel finished rally Mexico.
This was one tough rally! The stages were very bumpy this year, so we had to work on the balance of the car over those bumos during the first day. By the end of the day we got the car working and times were getting better and better. Second day was very good with good stage times on almost all stages. We really enjoyed those high speed straights and full-risk corners!

Last minute report from Citroën's HQ:
"Jso1985 with tennis injury:
Citroën's driver Jso1985 suffered an injury on his right wrist after completing day 1 when playing tennis with his friend David Nalbandian(ranked 7th on the ATP, who finished runner-up on last weekend's Mexican Open), doctors say is not a major injury and he should be fully recovered in a few days but his participation on day 2 is now on doubt
"I know it was stupid to do such thing in the middle of the rally but I'm lucky I didn't break any bone" stated the Bolivian driver"
Real story: yes I'm not using Juan Pablo Montoya's excuses I got injured today while playing tennis, I'm ok but my wrist hurts like hell and using a PS1 pad is not something I can do easily, will see tomorrow if I can complete the rally

(Tannat has just completed the superspecial)
Reporter: "Picked up a second or two from yesterday, Tannat."
Tannat: "Yes-we prefer starting in the right lane in Mexico, you can carry more speed when beginning the second lap."
Reporter: "What of your performance today?"
Tannat: " A good day. We gained nearly 10 seconds ver day 1 stages, losing only 2 seconds on others. We set our best time ever on SS14 (SS3) which felt good and came very close on SS16 (SS5) and SS19 (SS8). We feel good about this day."
Reporter: Overall where do you see yourself finishing?"
Tannat: "We hope to finish in the top 6. Anything higher would make us very, very happy."
Reporter: "Any other thoughts on the rally?"
Tannat: "We are still perplexed by our speed on SS7 and the Superspecial. We should be at least a second faster on each one. Hopefully some future testing will help determine where we are losing time."
Reporter: "And finally, are you looking forward to Argentina and Jordan?"
Tannat: "Yes-two very similar rallies (aside-at least for CMR2 :D ) on which in the past we have done well with plenty of preparation. We have sufficient time to prepare and hope to make a good mark on each of these rallies."
Reporter: "Thanks Tannat. best of luck to you at both venues."

A good event for the single car of Curtans RallyBase Motorsport: I managed my first top 10 stage time (on the difficult 19th stage of the rally even), had my best overall result of the season so far with 13th, and my 10th position on the 2nd leg shows there is still the possibility to improve. I'm looking forward to having Magnus back in the team for the next round. I think we can start aiming for top 10 rally positions in the next rounds. The small gaps in Mexico show the competition will be hard, but we are confident we can pull it off. Bring on Argentina!

Wow...I thought we had good pace but was very concerned the mistake on SS5 would cost us a podium. I must apologise to my co-driver for the ear full I gave him after the stage but that's in the past.
Now we have to concentrate on Argentina - a very tough event with many demanding stages to tackle. The set-up in Mexico seemed to work well so we'll use that as the basis for Shakedown and see where we are.
Very happy that we got both cars into the points...seeing JSO dunk his hand in ice water at every service point made me think he might struggle but he drove beautifully :)

I don't know where to post this, so here will do!
Just wondering if anyone knows the world record time for SS10 on Rally Australia because I'd like to know how close I'm getting.
My best so far is 1:00:15, although that is admittedly after a boring Sunday afternoon in the rain, repeating the stage in the Mitsu '0' car about 30 times, before setting the fastest time in the Pug 307 with my second attempt after finding a good set-up!
What is everyone else's record on that stage as well?
Could this be a mini-competition in preparation for Argie, or do we have to wait till the Recce and Shakedown?

1:00.15 is quite fast for that stage. My PB is 1:07.xx :(
About to start the recce thread now :)

Maybe once somebody starts a recce thread for Argentina this could go there.
If I'm right in thinking that last year Portugal was run using Australia, then Marcel Haenen had the fastest time on SS 10 with 1.03,95. So your time is incredibly fast. However, it is not as fast as Kimi's time of 58,62 in the 2005 CMR2 championship round.
